William Sydney Porter (September 11, 1862 – June 5, 1910), known by his pen name O. Henry, was an American short story writer. O. Henry's short stories are known for their wit, wordplay, warm characterization, and surprise endings.
William Sidney Porter was born on September 11, 1862,in Greensboro, North Carolina. He changed the spelling of his middle name to Sydney in 1898. His parents were Dr. Algernon Sidney Porter (1825–88), a physician, and Mary Jane Virginia Swaim Porter (1833–65). William's parents had married on April 20, 1858. When William was three, his mother died from tuberculosis, and he and his father moved into the home of his paternal grandmother. As a child, Porter was always reading, everything from classics to dime novels; his favorite works were Lane's translation of One Thousand and One Nights, and Burton's Anatomy of Melancholy.
Porter graduated from his aunt Evelina Maria Porter's elementary school in 1876. He then enrolled at the Lindsey Street High School. His aunt continued to tutor him until he was fifteen. In 1879, he started working in his uncle's drugstore and in 1881, at the age of nineteen, he was licensed as a pharmacist. At the drugstore, he also showed off his natural artistic talents by sketching the townsfolk.
"The Duplicity of Hargraves" is a short story by the American writer, William Sydney Porter, Pen name O. Henry. The story was featured in The Junior Munsey, February, 1902 and republished in the volume, Sixes and Sevens (1911).
A father (Major Pendleton Talbot) and his daughter (Lydia Talbot) move to Washington D.C. The Talbots, having come from a "South" aristocratic past before the American Civil War, are surprisingly quite poor and stay at a boarding house in the nation's capital. There they meet Henry Hopkins Hargraves, an ambitious actor, and Lydia is spellbound by Mr. Hargrave's tales. Hargrave learns the Southern style of talking and anecdote.
Major Pendleton having spent their last two dollars on play tickets, Lydia is excited to see a play but is shocked to see Mr. Hargraves impersonating her father on stage. Back at their rooms, the Major scolds Hargraves, who offers an apologetic payment. The Major refuses, even though he and Lydia are almost destitute.
Vermilion Parish (Paroisse de Vermillon) is a parish located in the U.S. state of Louisiana. As of the 2010 census, the population was 57,999. The parish seat is Abbeville. The parish was founded in 1844.
Vermilion Parish is part of the Lafayette, LA Metropolitan Statistical Area.
Vermilion and neighboring Cameron parishes are represented in the Louisiana State Senate by the Republican Jonathan W. Perry of Kaplan.
In the past several decades, much of the southern portion of the parish has been swept away by water erosion, especially after Hurricane Katrina and Hurricane Rita in 2005.
Indigenous peoples lived in the area for thousands of years, in different cultures. By historic times, the Chitimacha and Atakapa inhabited the area and were the American Indians encountered by Spanish and French explorers and settlers. The tribes' numbers were drastically reduced as a result of exposure to European diseases to which they had no immunity.
French, Spanish, enslaved Africans, and French-Canadians from Acadia expelled after the Seven Years' War won by Great Britain, had all entered the area by the end of the 18th century. As the population became mostly Cajun, the primary language was French for years. In the mid- to late 19th century, they were joined by European Americans; immigrants from Italy, recruited to work on the plantations, as well as Jewish immigrants from Germany and eastern Europe, who tended to settle in towns and become merchants.

Teacher Deyshia Hargrave was questioning the school board how they can vote to give the superintendent a raise when school employees have not gotten a raise in years. Security officer from the parish Marshal’s Office told her to leave the room and he would soon arrest her in the hall and call the city police and put her in a patrol unit. The school board members in the video are (left to right) Laura Lebeouf, Chris Hebert, School Board President Anthony Fontana (doing most of the talking), Superintendent Jerome Puyau and school board member Chris Gautreaux.

A drive along the Seacliff Bridge, south from Coalcliff in the northern Illawarra. The bridge was opened in 2005. The Sea Cliff Bridge replaced a section of Lawrence Hargrave Drive that was permanently closed in August 2003 due to regular rock falls. A public outcry emerged over the road closure as Lawrence Hargrave Drive is the only road directly linking Coalcliff, Stanwell Park, Otford and Helensburgh to the northern suburbs of Wollongong. The Sea Cliff Bridge is one of only seven off-shore parallel to coast bridges in the world. The Lifeline "Hold on to Hope, There is help" sign is intended for potential suicide victims jumping off the bridge.

The Sydney tramway network once served Sydney, the capital city of New South Wales, Australia. In its heyday, it was the largest in Australia, the second largest in the Commonwealth of Nations, and one of the largest in the world. The network was heavily worked, with about 1,600 cars in service at any one time at its peak during the 1930s. Throughout the first half of the twentieth century, an average of more than one tram journey per day was made in Sydney by every man and woman, infant and child in the city. Patronage peaked in 1945 at 405 million passenger journeys. The system was in place from 1879 until its winding down in the 1950s and closure in 1961.
