Want an agent. OK. Here are 10. Agents, "literary" agents, as well as "talent" agents, as well as "packaging" agents are needed but not liked. However, they're necessary.
Agents are like-attorneys, who are like-politicians who are like-oil. No one likes oil. Oil is dirty. It's grimy. It doesn't smell good...however, without "OIL" your Ferrari or Mercedes or Porsche won't work.
We all like Porsches, Mercedes, and Ferraris. However, they need oil to work. No oil. No car.
Attorneys are like-oil. Everyone hates them. Shakespeare, a pretty good writer, even had scenes in Julius Caeser around how everyone hates lawyers. However, without them America wouldn't work. (You have no idea how hard that is for me to admit).
Let's go Politicians, and "Yes, most of them are attorneys", we all hate them. However, once again, without them "will America work?"
--------------------------------------------------------------------
ADD Point: By-the-By. I believe that America will work without them. If you've ever been in government you know "It is the Staffers who do the work" and "It is the Peacocks who get the credit"
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Anyway, back to agents....Literary Agents! I've already told you to (A) write your scripts, first (B) write a Treatment, (C) register it with the Writers Guild ($20), then (D) write the screenplay and (E) copyright it with Library of Congress; then (F) send it out for "coverage" from 3 independent readers; then (G) do the re-write (remember, "nothing is written its re-written") and make it GREAT.
Now, get a list of Production Companies that have development deals with Studios and/or Networks and forward your Registered & Copyrighted script to that company's Development Executive with a Release Form cover letter....and turn it over to God.
In the interim, simultaneously, send it to literary agents, who know these people.
Below is a list of Literary Agents from just one ("THE GERSH AGENCY") of the major 7-10 agencies... possibly the smallest.
THE GERSH AGENCY is a very established and credible agency but is not massive in size that you get lost, unless you are a mega-marketable-star. They are sometime called a "Boutique Agency"... which means personal in size.
Give them a shot.
THE GERSH AGENCY (Los Angeles)
9465 Wilshire Blvd, 6/F
Beverly Hills, CA 90212
(310 274-6611)
THE GERSH AGENCY (New York)
41 Madison Avenue, 33/F
New York, NY 10010
(212-997-1818)
"You can lead a horse to water... but you can't make him drink".
Now, it's up to you.
I truly believe the GREAT SCRIPT will find the Buyer, find the Money and get made. However, if you keep it at home in your closet or briefcase...it can't be discovered.
Phone 'em. Bug 'em. Mail 'em.

Yes, it is important, very important, super-very important to have an agent. Writers get Literary Agents. Actors get Talent Agents. Okay, you know that. And, you also know that the mega-powerful agencies (ICM, CAA, UTA, APA, WME, Paradigm, etc. ), with 50-100 agents, won't answer their phone or return a call when you call.
Well why don't you try one of the smaller agencies, with 7-10 agents, who are possibly both Talent & Literary?
First, here are the Big Agencies with phone numbers... Call and likely get no-where.
1) AGENCY FOR PERFORMING ARTISTS (APA): 310-888-4200
2) CREATIVE ARTIST AGENCY (CAA): 424-888-2000
3) THE GERSH AGENCY (TGA): 310-274-6611
4) INERTNTNL CREATIVE MNGMNT (ICM): 310-550-4000
5) UNITED TALENT AGENCY (UTA): 310-273-6300
6) WILLIAM MORRISE ENDEAVOR (WME): 310-285-9000
7) PARADIGM: 310-288-8000

COMIC & BROADWAY AGENTS... ("Gotta Sing, Gotta Dance or Yuk-Yuk")
(For all Tips... Go To Facebook https://www.facebook.com/Filmbay ... Click "LIKES" & "SHARE"
--------------------------------------------
New York is actors heaven. NY, the Great White Way (from the many many lights that brightened the street in the 1880s) or Broadway today (aka: Theatre District) runs only 10 blocks, from 43rd to 53rd street with only 4 theatres, The Marquis (43rd), The Palace (47), The Winter Garden (50th) and & The Broadway (53rd) is where.
Now let's cut-to actors, agents and New York. First, agents breakdown into basically (1) Talent Agents or (2) Literary Agents who represent clients or (3) Packaging Agents, these are the ones that filmmaker's desire, for don't truly represent clients; they represent Packages (aka: projects with Script, Director, Budget & Stars) and only charge 5% rather than the 10% for solely writers or actors.
Now let's cut-to talking agents for actors in NY, Broadway, TV & Screen. Here's the bottom-line...if you are an actor and desire to live on the East Coast (aka: New York) and want to work..."YOU Better Be Able to Sing & Dance". Point. Period. End Sentence. If not, then move to LA.
The majority of parts, auditions & roles that are being cast everyday in Manhattan are for Broadway plays/musicals. Yes, of course, New York has Madison Avenues, and Madison Avenue being another name for advertising has a lot of commercials being shot and also 1 or 2 daily soaps but the bottom-line is, "if you desire to be an actor and live in Manhattan, you better be able to (A) Sing, (B) Dance and (C), of course, Act.
AGENCY FOR NY ACTORS
A couple of Hot Tips ago I posted info on a medium sized, but extremely well-connected agency (aka: "Paradigm Agency") that has numerous Talent & Literary Agents now let me give you the name of an agency, with an office in Manhattan, that is very well connected and represents actors for Broadway...but you better be able to "sing-n-dance".
AGENCY: GERSH AGENCY
ADDRESS: 41 Madison Ave, 44/F, New York, NY
PHONE: 212-997-1818
AGENTS: Talent
1) JESSICA AMATO
2) KYETAY BECKNER
3) RANDI GOLDSTEIN
4) JASON GUTMAN
5) JENNIFER KONAWAL
6) LINDSAY PORTER
COMEDY is also a specialty of The Gersh Agency so if you got a "Shtick", got a "gimmick", got at least 20 minutes of standup material and are ready to audition, go on the road, perfect your 20-minutes in tacky clubs sleeping in Holiday Expresses, with cold breakfasts, until you're ready for your 5-minutes of Leno or Letterman or Kimmel, so that you can get 30-minutes on Comedy Channel in hopes of getting 90-minutes on HBO....then The Gersh Agency is very important.
COMICS they rep include:
MAINLINE "90-Minuters": Tom Arnold, Ben Bailey, Drew Carey, Dave Chappelle, Henry Cho, Bobcat Goldthwaite, Robert Klein, Norm Macdonald, Kevin Nealon....
UP & COMIN' "20-Minuters": KP Anderson, Ian Bragg, BEN BAILEY, Maria Bamford, The Dan Band, Arj Baker, Greg Behrendt, Doug Benson, Danny Bevins, Bo Bumhan, Tom Cotter, Joe Dore, Dean Edwards, Adam Ferrara, Christian Finnegan, Dave Foley, JAM FOX, Garfunkle & Oates, Elon Gold, Eddie Griffin, Ryan Hamilton, John Heffron, John Menton, Jeremy Holtz, Matt Iseman, Anjelah Johnson, Aron Kader, Myg Kaplan, Moshe Kasher, Louis Katz, Lisa Landy, Rocky LaPorte, Wendy Liebman, Mo Mandel, Shane Mauss, Joel McHale, Juston McKinney, Larry Miller, Tim Minchin, Remy, Rex Navarrette, John Oliver, Patton Oswalt, Phil Palisoul, Jimmy Pardo, Joprdan Peele, tammy Pascarelli, Brian Posehn, Jasper Redd, Jon Reep, Brian Regan, Erik Rivera, Tom Segura, Lliza Schelssinger, Christopher Titus, Brent Weinbach, Brad Williams, Harland Williams, Ali Wong, Roy Wood Jr.

COMIC & BROADWAY AGENTS... ("Gotta Sing, Gotta Dance or Yuk-Yuk")

COMEDY is also a specialty of The Gersh Agency so if you got a "Shtick", got a "gimmick", got at least 20 minutes of standup material and are ready to audition, go on the road, perfect your 20-minutes in tacky clubs sleeping in Holiday Expresses, with cold breakfasts, until you're ready for your 5-minutes of Leno or Letterman or Kimmel, so that you can get 30-minutes on Comedy Channel in hopes of getting 90-minutes on HBO....then The Gersh Agency is very important.
COMICS they rep include:
MAINLINE "90-Minuters": Tom Arnold, Ben Bailey, Drew Carey, Dave Chappelle, Henry Cho, Bobcat Goldthwaite, Robert Klein, Norm Macdonald, Kevin Nealon....
UP & COMIN' "20-Minuters": KP Anderson, Ian Bragg, BEN BAILEY, Maria Bamford, The Dan Band, Arj Baker, Greg Behrendt, Doug Benson, Danny Bevins, Bo Bumhan, Tom Cotter, Joe Dore, Dean Edwards, Adam Ferrara, Christian Finnegan, Dave Foley, JAM FOX, Garfunkle & Oates, Elon Gold, Eddie Griffin, Ryan Hamilton, John Heffron, John Menton, Jeremy Holtz, Matt Iseman, Anjelah Johnson, Aron Kader, Myg Kaplan, Moshe Kasher, Louis Katz, Lisa Landy, Rocky LaPorte, Wendy Liebman, Mo Mandel, Shane Mauss, Joel McHale, Juston McKinney, Larry Miller, Tim Minchin, Remy, Rex Navarrette, John Oliver, Patton Oswalt, Phil Palisoul, Jimmy Pardo, Joprdan Peele, tammy Pascarelli, Brian Posehn, Jasper Redd, Jon Reep, Brian Regan, Erik Rivera, Tom Segura, Lliza Schelssinger, Christopher Titus, Brent Weinbach, Brad Williams, Harland Williams, Ali Wong, Roy Wood Jr.
