Breukelen (Dutch pronunciation: [ˈbrøːkələ(n)]) is a town and former municipality in the Netherlands, in the province of Utrecht. It is situated to the north west of Utrecht, along the river Vecht and close to the lakes of the Loosdrechtse Plassen, an area of natural and tourist interest. It is in an area called the "Vechtstreek". During the 17th century many wealthy Amsterdam merchant families built their mansions along the river near Breukelen.
On January 1, 2011 Breukelen merged with Loenen and Maarssen to form Stichtse Vecht.
There is a large Van der Valk (Hotel Breukelen) hotel, the façade of which is in the Chinese style. Universiteit Nyenrode is located in Breukelen.
The borough of Brooklyn in New York City is named after Breukelen (see History of Brooklyn).

Johannes Franciscus "Hans" van Breukelen (Dutch pronunciation: [ˈɦɑns fɑn ˈbrøːkələ(n)], 4 October 1956) is a former Dutch football player who played as a goalkeeper. Currently, he works as an entrepreneur and serves in the PSV Eindhoven board of directors.
Van Breukelen grew up in De Bilt, where he played in the BVC youth academy. In 1976, he moved to FC Utrecht, where he played 142 matches. After two years with Nottingham Forest, Van Breukelen moved to PSV Eindhoven in 1984. With PSV, he won six league titles and three domestic cups. In 1988, Van Breukelen also won the European Cup as part of the Treble after saving Benfica's sixth penalty in the shoot-out. In the Netherlands, he was named Goalkeeper of the Year four times.
Van Breukelen played 73 caps for the Dutch national team. In 1988, he triumphed at the European Championships with The Netherlands; Van Breukelen stopped a penalty in the final. He also appeared at the 1990 World Cup and Euro 1992. After his career, he became an entrepreneur in different non-football business ventures, although he served as director of football at FC Utrecht and is a member of the PSV board of directors since 2010.
Johannes Gerrit "Johan" Derksen (born 31 January 1949) is a Dutch sports journalist and former football player. He played professional football between 1966 and 1978 for five clubs: Go Ahead Eagles, Cambuur Leeuwarden, BV Veendam, HFC Haarlem and MVV Maastricht. During and after his active career he became well known as a sports journalist, specialising in football. He was the editor-in-chief of Voetbal International from 2000 until his retirement at 1 August 2013, the country's most prominent football magazine. He is also a television football pundit on RTL7's Voetbal International.
Derksen was born in Heteren, Gelderland into a right wing Protestant Christian family. He describes his father as a very strict policeman, both professionally and at home. Ever since he was a child he wanted to become a drummer. Derksen, who was an only child, stated his father wanted him to become a footballer instead of choosing the uncertain life of a musician. He played for the local team SDOO Heteren at the time. His family moved to Drenthe when he was a teenager. There he played for amateur football clubs Nieuw-Buinen and Rolder Boys before moving to Deventer to join the youth academy of Go Ahead Eagles.

In my life, in this restless life,
So many wasted dreams,
They all leave me tired now.
All of my friends,
All of my friends’ familiar faces I don’t have now.
Seems so far away.
Do they remember me?
‘Cause I’m still around this town.
Where are they now?
We swore we’d all come back for each other
Well, I still hear them now.
Ah, the rain daily washes down,
There’s no one around.
I should have known they wouldn’t come back now.
But I won’t walk away.
While the rain is falling down.
‘Cause it’s my life,
I can’t turn back now.
All I got left is time,
I’ll just live it out for now.
Wondering why why why,
Why I’ve been waiting here for a lifetime.
Well, I still hear them now.
Ah, the rain daily washes down,
There’s no one around.
I should have known they wouldn’t come back now.
But I won’t walk away.
Ah, the rain daily washes down (down down).
No, I won’t walk away.
I should have known they wouldn’t come back down.
The rain is falling down,
Down on the empty streets,
Oh, where we used to meet,
There’s nobody down there now.
Where are my friends?
We swore we’d all come back for each other.
Well, I hear them now.
Ah, the rain daily washes down,
There’s no one around.
I should have known they wouldn’t come back now.
But I won’t walk away.
Ah, the rain daily washes down (down down),
No, I won’t walk away.
While the rain is falling down.
No, I’m not gonna walk away.
Ah, the rain daily washes down,
There’s no one around.
I should have known they wouldn’t come back now.
