Game reserves are large areas of land where wild animals live safely or are hunted in a controlled way for sport.
Many game reserves are located in Africa. Most are open to the public, and tourists commonly take sightseeing safaris.
In a game reserve, ecosystems are protected and conservation is usually a key. Indigenous wildlife in its natural habitat help in providing an environment where growth in numbers at a natural rate can occur.
Some game reserves boast more than one ecosystem, sometimes even five, ranging from valley bushveld, savannah grassland and fynbos to riverine forest and acacia woodland; this provides a dramatic improvement on the types of wildlife that are present and the numerous species of birds that thrive on in these environments.
The biggest attraction is the Big Five game (Africa) - rhinoceros, elephant, buffalo, leopard and lion, named so because of the difficulty in hunting them and not their size, which is why the leopard is on the list and the hippopotamus is not.
The Selous Game Reserve is one of the largest faunal reserves of the world, located in the south of Tanzania. It was named after Englishman Sir Frederick Selous, a famous big game hunter and early conservationist, who died at Beho Beho in this territory in 1917 while fighting against the Germans during World War I. Scottish explorer and cartographer Keith Johnston also died at Beho Beho in 1879 while leading a RSGS expedition to the Great Lakes of Africa with Joseph Thomson. The Selous was designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1982 due to the diversity of its wildlife and undisturbed nature.
The reserve covers a total area of 54,600 km2 (21,100 sq mi) and has additional buffer zones. Within the reserve no permanent human habitation or permanent structures are permitted. All (human) entry and exit is carefully controlled by the Wildlife Division of the Tanzanian Ministry of Natural Resources and Tourism. Some of the typical animals of the savanna (for example bush elephants, hippopotami, Masai lion, East African wild dog, South African cheetah, cape buffalo, Masai giraffe and crocodiles) can be found in this park in larger numbers than in any other African game reserve or national park.
A game is structured form of play, usually undertaken for enjoyment and sometimes used as an educational tool. Games are distinct from work, which is usually carried out for remuneration, and from art, which is more often an expression of aesthetic or ideological elements. However, the distinction is not clear-cut, and many games are also considered to be work (such as professional players of spectator sports or games) or art (such as jigsaw puzzles or games involving an artistic layout such as Mahjong, solitaire, or some video games).
Key components of games are goals, rules, challenge, and interaction. Games generally involve mental or physical stimulation, and often both. Many games help develop practical skills, serve as a form of exercise, or otherwise perform an educational, simulational, or psychological role.
Attested as early as 2600 BC, games are a universal part of human experience and present in all cultures. The Royal Game of Ur, Senet, and Mancala are some of the oldest known games.
Reserve or reserves may refer to:
East Africa or Eastern Africa is the easterly region of the African continent, variably defined by geography or geopolitics. In the United Nations Statistics Division scheme of geographic regions, 20 territories constitute Eastern Africa:

Travel video about nature park Selous Game Reserve in Tanzania. The Selous Game Reserve in Tanzania is a nature reserve of the superlative and as well as being both the oldest and largest game reserve in Africa it is a world of natural beauty and exotic wildlife.Much of Selous is crossed by the Rufuji River and its tributaries and although the region has a relatively small amount of rainfall each year the Rufuji contains more water than most other rivers in East Africa. Prior to the establishment of the game reserve this area was a paradise for hunters and poachers as is evident by the many hunting trophies that are on show in the Mbega Camp. Specially equipped four wheel drive vehicles are used for travelling across the savannah. Almost all of the Selous Game Reserve’s camps offer various...

Visit http://www.nature-explored.com for more videos, photos and information about this and other Parks, and also the latest threats from Ivory Poaching. Selous Game Reserve in September 2011. We stayed at Selous Impala Camp on the banks of the Rufiji River. The River is awesome and is alive with Crocodiles and Hippos. 350 species of bird are recorded in the area. The camp provided a small boat for our exclusive use so much of the footage is taken on the river. It is a very relaxing way to see the wildlife, especially the many pods of hippos. On land there were many Giraffe, Wildebeeste, Impala, and Kudu as well as Elephant and Buffalo. The highlight of the stay was when we found a pack of African Hunting Dogs on the last day. If you are thinking of going then go soon - there has been a ...

Traveler Ian Wright begins his African adventure on the historic island of Zanzibar. Zanzibar is a former slave trading center and it is here that he discovers the horrors of the Arab-dominated slave trade that continued until 1922, and the work of antislavery campaigners like Dr David Livingstone. Ian also enjoys the lighter side of life in Zanzibar as he wanders through the food markets of Jamituru Gardens and samples the cuisine of the 'Spice Island'. Ian heads to the mainland to the bustling capital of Tanzania, Dar Es Salaam, and on to the world's biggest game reserve, Selous. The highlight of his journey through the Selous Game Reserve is a river safari on Lake Tagala, keeping a safe distance from the crocodiles and hippos that populate the lake. German occupation left its mark on Tanzania. But how has the east African country changed since the colonial era? Even though the Germans were pushed out of East Africa after the First World War, the ties remain close. Many farms there have changed little since, and Germans still live in some of them. German settlers originally built some of the old farmsteads on the slopes of Mount Kilimanjaro during the colonial era. Makoa Farm is one that dates back to that time. German veterinarian Elli Stegmaier and her husband Laszlo run a clinic there where they mainly treat sick and injured wild animals. It’s their dream come true. Not far from their estate is Momella Farm, where actors John Wayne and Hardy Krüger filmed the Hollywood classic Hatari in the early sixties. Krüger fell in love with ...
