The late Sheikh Zayed was appointed as the representative of the Emirate's Ruler in the Eastern Region in 1946. Immediately after his appointment, he immersed himself in government affairs in Al Ain City, the region's administrative seat. Within two years he was considered a powerful figure in the region, characterized by his strong will and determination to reform. In addition, he became well-known for his skills as a listener and effective dispute mediator, which earned him the greatest respect of those around him. These were the traits which he later became internationally recognized for.
In August 1966, Sheikh Zayed acceded to the position of Ruler of the Emirate of Abu Dhabi, a position which reflected the trust and respect he had gained following his success at initiating the development of Al Ain City during the 1950s despite meager resources. He then set the Emirate on its path of sustainable growth and development that has today become the gold standard for the entire region.
Sheikh Zayed is credited with pushing rising oil revenues into a substantial development drive to benefit all those living under his rule, as well as, establishing a new governmental structure that laid the foundations for the Emirate and the country today.
In 1971, the late Sheikh Zayed, working alongside the late Sheikh Rashid bin Saeed Al Maktoum, the then Ruler of Dubai, pioneered the efforts that led to the UAE's establishment in December 1971, which politically consolidated the nascent nation in difficult circumstances. As an acknowledgement of his leadership, sagacity and his efforts, the late Sheikh Zayed was unanimously elected by his fellow Rulers of the Emirates to become the first President of the UAE, a title which earned him the local and enduring moniker of 'Father of the Nation'.
Sheikh Zayed was a man who understood that in order to build harmony, cohesion and solidarity among his people, he first needed to build their trust via constructive and personal interaction. He enjoyed getting out and meeting the local community, and was considered as a man of the people. He tasked his government with building capabilities in health, education and social welfare, seeing all UAE citizens as instrumental to the nation's collective success. This philosophy remains evident across the country today.
Economically, the late Sheikh Zayed successfully invested oil revenues in building a strong and cohesive economy, ranking the UAE among the region's most economically developed countries. Thanks to his vision, the UAE is now the GCC's second biggest economy after , the third largest in the Middle East and, according to many prestigious international reports, the most important financial and economic centre in the region. This is reflected in the standards of living of its citizens.
Internationally, the late Sheikh Zayed laid the foundations of a foreign policy, which is characterized by wisdom, moderation, balance, support for truth and justice, and maintaining a language of dialogue and understanding. This balanced foreign policy has become a hallmark of the UAE, both regionally and internationally. Sheikh Zayed was held in high regard by all Arab leaders, enabling him to act as a mediator on more than one occasion. He has also earned a reputation as an international humanitarian and philanthropist, supporting a number of causes across the world and again setting an enduring legacy.
Sheikh Zayed passed away on November 2, 2004. His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan, the then Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and the eldest son of Sheikh Zayed, succeeded him to the Presidency of the UAE and Rulership of Abu Dhabi, while His Highness General Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, another of Sheikh Zayed's sons, was appointed the Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi. Under their leadership and direction, both guided by their father's values, the Emirate of Abu Dhabi has continued to prosper.

He reminded us of the famous reply Sheikh Zayed Bin Sultan (God rest his soul in peace) said when a reporter told our great leader that he was spoiling the UAE’s citizens. Sheikh Zayed said “there is a deference between duty and spoiling.. no one is stingy on his sons!!”. Sheikh Zayed considered all UAE citizens his sons and daughters, and used to sign everything with “Your Father, Sheikh Zayed Bin Sultan Al Nahyan”, and believed it is his duty as a father to support his children in every way.

Princess Reema Bint Bandar Al-Saud, CEO of Saudi Arabian luxury retailer Alfa Intl, says "you cannot have half of your population not working," Over the past two years, Princess Reema has been making bold moves toward women's empowerment in Saudi Arabia.
Born in Riyadh, Princess Reema grew up in Washington, D.C., where her father, Prince Bandar bin Sultan, served as Saudi Arabia's ambassador to the United States. She returned home in 2008 to a country where women's public participation is limited. In response she founded Alf Khair, a corporate social responsibility initiative providing training and support to women in the workforce.
Through investments in training and corporate infrastructure Princess Reema is creating opportunities unimaginable just a few years ago. Whether it’s hiring women, providing day care, offering free employee transportation or letting employees make their own decision about whether to wear a veil, she is embarking on a paradigm shift for a population hungry for change.

Hiçbir zaman kendi görüşünü, kendi fikrini yazmayıp, daima Ehl-i sünnet âlimlerinin, anlayabilenleri hayran eden kıymetli yazılarını Arapça ve Farsça’dan tercüme ederek kitaplarında yayınlamıştır.
Hüseyin Hilmi Işık Efendi, Ehl-i sünnet âlimlerinin kitaplarını okuyup anlayabilecek salih kimselerin azaldığını ve cahil kimselerin din adamları arasına karışarak, bozuk kitaplar yazıldığını görerek üzülmüş, (Fitne yayıldığı zaman, hakikati bilen, başkalarına bildirsin! Bildirmezse, Allah’ın ve bütün insanların laneti ona olsun) hadis-i şerifinde bildirilen tehditten dehşet duymuştur.

His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan Bin Mohammad Al Qassimi, Supreme Council Member, Ruler of Sharjah and President of American University of Sharjah (AUS), attended the Fall 2014 graduation ceremony held on Saturday, January 31, 2015 at University City Hall, Sharjah. The ceremony was also attended by His Excellency Sheikh Sultan Bin Mohammed Bin Sultan Al Qassimi, Crown Prince and Deputy Ruler of Sharjah.
A total of 480 undergraduate and graduate candidates participated in the AUS Fall 2014 commencement ceremony.
As he congratulated the AUS Class of Fall 2014, His Highness the Ruler of Sharjah said in his opening speech, "This day represents a new beginning for you towards broader prospects. You will pursue either your higher education or begin your career. No matter which choice you make, the knowledge and skills you developed at your university are sources of power and support so that you may steadily reach your goals and become active members of society."
He expressed his satisfaction in AUS by saying, "Your university is not only the leading academic institution in the region, but also a leader in its efforts to cooperate and provide solutions to the various community sectors for the issues and challenges that they may face. These collaborations span cultural, educational, research and development opportunities. These achievements have led the university to be prominently listed in the world rankings of top universities, and we will strive to maintain this recognition."
He concluded his speech by asking graduates to use knowledge and skills for the benefit of their societies and nations.
Addressing the graduates, AUS Chancellor Dr Björn Kjerfve said, "As you look back over your years at AUS, you will notice how things have changed from the first time you entered the university. Today your university is home to more than 6,000 undergraduate and graduate students from over 90 countries across the world. It has added to its roster of undergraduate majors and minors as well as challenging graduate programs."
"It has been our aim from the very outset to be known internationally for our high standards and academic prowess. The success that we enjoy today has come as a result of the vision, guidance and unstinting support provided to us by our President, His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan Bin Mohammad Al Qassimi. His vision for University City in general, and American University of Sharjah in particular, has been lauded internationally," added the AUS Chancellor.
"You are now, and forever will be, a member of the greater AUS family. And as you are a valued member of this important family, I would encourage you as alumni and friends of AUS to help provide support to those AUS students who will come after you," he concluded.
Founded in 1997, AUS has fulfilled His Highness Dr. Sheikh Sultan's vision of a quality institution catering to the aspirations and needs of the UAE and the wider Gulf community as a whole. Over the past decade, the student body increased considerably, necessitating the launch of two graduation ceremonies per year.

The House of Saud (Arabic: آل سعود Āl Saʻūd) is the ruling royal family of Saudi Arabia. The family has thousands of members. It is composed of the descendants of Muhammad bin Saud and his brothers, though the ruling faction of the family is primarily led by the descendants of Abdulaziz Ibn Saud.
The most influential member of the Royal family is the King of Saudi Arabia, currently King Salman. The throne was designed to pass from one son of the first king, Ibn Saud, to another. His deputy Muqrin bin Abdulaziz Al Saud is also from the ruling House of Saud, and the king-appointed cabinet includes more members of the royal family. While the monarchy is hereditary now, future Saudi kings will be chosen by a committee of Saudi princes, in line with a 2006 Royal Decree.[1]
The family is estimated to be composed of 15,000 members, but the majority of the power and wealth is possessed by a group of only about 2,000.[2][3]
The House of Saud has gone through three phases: the First Saudi State, the Second Saudi State, and the modern nation of Saudi Arabia. The First Saudi State marked the expansion of Wahhabism. The Second Saudi State was marked with continuous infighting. Modern Saudi Arabia wields considerable influence in the Middle East. The family has had conflicts with the Ottoman Empire, the Sharif of Mecca, the Al Rashid family of Ha'il, and numerous Islamist groups both inside and outside Saudi Arabia.
The head of the House of Saud is the King of Saudi Arabia who serves as Head of State and monarch of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. The King holds almost absolute political power. The King appoints ministers to his cabinet who supervise their respective ministries in his name. The key ministries of Defence, the Interior, and Foreign Affairs are reserved for the Al Saud, as are most of the thirteen regional governorships. Most portfolios, however, such as Finance, Labor, Information, Planning, Petroleum Affairs and Industry, have traditionally been given to commoners, often with junior Al Saud members serving as their deputies. House of Saud family members also hold many of the Kingdom's critical military and governmental departmental posts. Ultimate power in the Kingdom has always rested upon the Al Saud, though support from the Ulema, the merchant community, and the population at large has been key to the maintenance of the royal family's political status quo.
Long term political and government appointments, such as those of King Abdullah, who was Commander of the National Guard from 1963 to 2010, former Crown Prince Sultan, who was Minister of Defence and Aviation from 1962 until his death in 2011, Prince Mutaib Minister of Municipal and Rural Affairs from 1975 to 2009, former Crown Prince Nayef who was the Minister of Interior from 1975 to 2012, and the current King Salman, who was governor of the Riyadh Region from 1963 to 2011, have perpetuated the creation of fiefdoms where senior princes have, often, though not exclusively, co-mingled their personal wealth with that of their respective domains. They have often appointed their own sons to senior positions within their own fiefdom. Examples of these include Prince Mutaib bin Abdullah as assistant commander in the National Guard until 2010; Prince Khalid bin Sultan as assistant minister of defence until 2013; Prince Mansour bin Mutaib as assistant minister for Municipal and Rural Affairs until he replaced his father in 2009; and Prince Mohammed bin Nayef as assistant minister in the Interior Ministry. In cases, where portfolios have notably substantial budgets, appointments of younger, often full, brothers have been necessary, as deputies or vice ministers, ostensibly to share the wealth and the burdens of responsibility, of each fiefdom. Examples of these include Prince Abdul Rahman who was vice minister of defence and aviation under Prince Sultan; Prince Badr, deputy to King Abdullah in the National Guard; Prince Sattam, who was Deputy Riyadh Governor during King Salman's term; and Prince Ahmed, who held the deputy minister's portfolio under Prince Nayef's interior ministry.

Saudi Arabia is said to be the world's largest source of funds and promoter of Salafist jihadism, which forms the ideological basis of terrorist groups such as al-Qaeda, Taliban, ISIS and others. Donors in Saudi Arabia constitute the most significant source of funding to Sunni terrorist groups worldwide, according to Hillary Clinton. According to a secret December 2009 paper signed by the US secretary of state, "Saudi Arabia remains a critical financial support base for al-Qaida, the Taliban, LeT and other terrorist groups."
Reports have surfaced that the Saudi government supported the Iraqi insurgency in the 2000s.

At more than 200m high, 150m wide and 5km long, the Hang Son Doong cave in Vietnam is so big it has its own river, jungle and climate. Australian photographer John Spies, 59, spent a week photographing the natural wonder of the cave system. "With ceilings towering over 200 metres high in places, the cave is a humbling and belittling experience," said John, who has lived in Thailand since 1977 and runs the Cave Lodge guesthouse.
"It is amazing to be 3-4km inside the cave and have daylight illuminate the cave formations. The dimensions of the cave are incredible and to camp for five nights in the biggest cave in the world is not something most of get to do in our lifetime," said John.
"The entrance is quite small and mist from the cave, caused by the cooler air inside meeting the hot air outside, rises into the surrounding forest. Visitors must descend 80m down a steep wall with the use of harnesses and ropes. The huge temperature difference also creates moving clouds of mist, especially near the two karst windows, which gives the cave its magically surreal atmosphere."
Son Doong cave(Vietnamese: Hang Son Doong) is world's largest cave, located in Quang Binh province, Vietnam. It is found by a local man named Ho Khanh in 1991 and was recently discovered in 2009 by British cavers, led by Howard Limbert. The name "Son Doong" cave means "mountain river cave", It was created 2-5 million years ago by river water eroding away the limestone underneath the mountain Where the limestone was weak, the ceiling collapsed creating huge skylights
