Salt Lake may refer to:
Salt Lake City, often shortened to Salt Lake or SLC, is the capital and the most populous city in the U.S. state of Utah. With an estimated population of 191,180 in 2013, the city lies at the core of the Salt Lake City metropolitan area, which has a total population of 1,153,340 (2014 estimate). Salt Lake City is further situated within a larger metropolis known as the Salt Lake City-Ogden-Provo Combined Statistical Area. This region is a corridor of contiguous urban and suburban development stretched along an approximately 120-mile (190 km) segment of the Wasatch Front, comprising a total population of 2,423,912 as of 2014. It is one of only two major urban areas in the Great Basin (the other being Reno, Nevada), and the largest in the Intermountain West.
The city was founded in 1847 by Brigham Young, Isaac Morley, George Washington Bradley and numerous other Mormon followers, who extensively irrigated and cultivated the arid valley. Due to its proximity to the Great Salt Lake, the city was originally named "Great Salt Lake City"—the word "great" was dropped from the official name in 1868 by the 17th Utah Territorial Legislature. Home to the headquarters of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (LDS Church) and Temple Square, Salt Lake City was historically considered a holy city by members of the LDS church; Brigham Young called it a "Kingdom of Heaven on Earth". Today, however, less than half the population of Salt Lake City proper are members of the LDS Church.
Five years ago, the unveiling of a plan for the revitalization of Madison Street, from Central Park (3600 W) in East Garfield Park to Damen Ave (2000 W) on the Near West Side, was generating a lot of buzz in the community. The steep economic downturn that soon followed wasn't part of the plan. A look at Madison Street today shows little economic development has taken place, none of it the kind of retail envisioned in the redevelopment plan created in cooperation with the University of Illinois Chicago. Two new drug stores have opened, a CVS and a Walgreens, and there's the promise of a Pete's Fresh Market at Madison and Western Ave (2400 W). That's all that five years have brought on the retail front. Just west and east of Western Ave there was quite a bit of new condo constructio...

This camera, the Panasonic GH1, has pretty great quality video. Here're some random clips my friend took on his camera and I just threw them together in Premiere Pro. Premiere Pro can edit AVCHD files directly, so no transcoding necessary. All clips were taken in Chicago on Madison Street on the way to the Ogilvie Transportation Center. And my friend gave the busker a dollar before he started filming. My transitions suck because I didn't know about handles in Premiere Pro. The lens is a Panasonic LUMIX G 20mm f/1.7 Aspherical Pancake Lens for Micro Four Thirds cameras.

This is a personal look book project I did for my friends clothing company, Gnarle. I rarely get psyched on pieces that I produce, but I am psyching on this one. It showcases 2 of my friends, Madison and Alex, cruising the streets of Oceanside, CA. Madison is gorgeous and Alex (although recently coming off a knee injury) shreds skating. This was all shot on a Canon 5D MKii with L series glass. www.canon.com Music: Future Islands "Vireo's Eye" www.future-islands.com Madison - Gnarle "We Like Smart Girls" Tee Alex - Gnarle "LA Traffic" Tee www.gnarle.com There's TONS of rad shirts on gnarle.com so go check it out and get some gear.
