Samut Prakan (Thai: สมุทรปราการ [sāmùt prāːkāːn]) is one of the central provinces (changwat) of Thailand, established by the Act Establishing Changwat Samut Prakan, Changwat Nonthaburi, Changwat Samut Sakhon and Changwat Nakhon Nayok, Buddhist Era 2489 (1946), which came into force 9 March 1946.
It is part of the Bangkok Metropolitan Region. Neighbouring provinces are Bangkok, to the north and west, and Chachoengsao to the east.
Suvarnabhumi Airport is in the Bang Phli district of Samut Prakan Province.
The province was created during the Ayutthaya period, with its administrative centre at Prapadaeng. It was the sea port of Siam, and was secured with forts, town moats, and town walls. King Rama II started the building of the new centre at Samut Prakan in 1819, after his predecessor King Taksin had abandoned the town fortifications. Altogether six forts were built on both sides of the Chao Phraya River, and on an island in the river the pagoda, Phra Samut Chedi, was erected. These were involved in the Paknam incident of 13 July 1893, which ended the Franco-Siamese War with a French naval blockade of Bangkok. Of the original six forts only two still exist today, Phi Sua Samut and Phra Chulachomklao.
The Samutprakarn Crocodile Farm and Zoo is an internationally renowned crocodile zoo in Bangkok, Thailand. The park claims to hold the world's largest crocodile in captivity, named Yai, measuring 6 m (19 ft 8 in) and weighing 1,114 kg (2,456 lb). Yai is one among over 100,000 crocodiles at the world's largest crocodile farm.
Visitors to the crocodile farm can see a wide variety of animals other than crocodiles, including elephants, lions, tigers, monkeys, horses and hippos. There are daily crocodile shows, famous for the performers doing tricks such as putting their heads and arms inside a crocodile's mouth. Elephant shows display the dexterity of elephants as they walk tightropes, ride skateboards and dance. Visitors may also take short elephant ride, ride a train, enjoy a paddle boat ride or explore the dinosaur museum.
Admission for non Thai adults is 300 baht. Admission for children is 200 baht. Note that Thai nationals and people who look Thai pay 60 baht admission. Foreign looking residents of Thailand still pay 300 baht. The Samutprakarn Crocodile Farm is located at 555 Moo 7 Taiban Road, Taiban Sub-District, Amphur Muang, Samutprakarn, Thailand. Opening hours are from 8:00 A.M. through 6:00 P.M. daily.Coordinates: 13°34′20″N 100°35′52″E / 13.572107°N 100.597697°E / 13.572107; 100.597697

Check out this beautiful footage from our trip to The Ancient City in Samut Prakan. It is a wonderful place to visit, full of amazing temples, statues, paintings, bridges, rivers, waterfalls, gardens, flowers and trees. I must object to the all-too-common two-tier pricing system for foreigners staying here in Thailand though. Since I wasn't born on this piece of Earth I had to pay 700 baht for entrance, while First only had to pay 350. There are several places around Thailand that charge foreigners up to 10 times the amount that natives are charged, which is especially unfair to non-Thais who live here long-term like myself. Other than the financial racism it was an awesome place and highly recommended :)
