This is the most common form to model a real gas since it is easy to calculate, easy to understand and it has low error %. It includes the critical pressure and critical temperature of the gas. We then calculate the reduced properties of the gas and use the Z-Chart which is valid for any gas due to the Law of Corresponding States. The "Z" factor is the "Correction Factor" for that gas TIP: there are some corrections of diatomic molecules such as hydrogen gas and oxygen gas; these corrections may be calculated with Newton's Corrections When we mix gases, we need to apply the Kay Rule; essentially a rule of mixing critical properties to form a "pseudo-temperature" and a "pseudo-pressure" of the gas. The Headquarters of Heart Rate Variability for All Health Care Practitioners! HRVHQ is dedicated to bringing to you the latest Heart Rate Variability assessment tools from around the world and, most importantly, to deliver exemplary education. The assessment tools on this site are designed to give the healthcare practitioner a look into the many regulatory systems of the body and act as a compass as to what direction the patient’s health is headed. Are your treatments moving the patient in the right direction or do you need to change course? The technologies on this site are not designed to diagnose or treat any disease but are designed to educate the physician and patient as to how well these control systems: the Autonomic Nervous System, Neurohormonal, as well as the Chinese Meridians are able to regulate the body based on the current internal and external environment. What is Heart Rate Variability (HRV)? Heart Rate Variability (HRV) is the physiological phenomenon of variation in the time interval between heart beats. It is measured by the variation in the beat to beat intervals. We call this the time domain. A healthy heart rate variability is reflected by lots of variation in the time domain between successive heart beats. This would indicate a very robust autonomic nervous system. Someone with less variation between one heart beat to the next has low heart rate variability and indicates decreased autonomic nervous system regulation. The importance of Heart Rate Variability is that it is controlled by the autonomic nervous system and therefore is a window into its function. The autonomic nervous system automatically influences the visceral organs, smooth muscle such as the blood vessels and glands and obviously a big influence on the heart. There are 2 branches to the autonomic nervous system, the Sympathetic nervous system and the Parasympathetic nervous system. The Sympathetic nervous system deals with stress situations and is sometimes referred to as the fight or flight system and is triggered by any stress such as conscious or unconscious psychoemotional stress, toxins and electromagnetic influences. The opposite is the Parasympathetic nervous system and is coined the rest and digest system. To recap, the Sympathetic nervous system is involved in mobilizing energy and resources for survival and the Parasympathetic nervous system is involved in conserving energy and is highly involved with digestion. One is the gas pedal and the other is the brakes. The second component of Heart Rate Variability besides the time domain is the spectral analysis. The ECG is broken down into very specific frequency band widths that correspond to specific functions. Low frequency, for example, has to do with the Sympathetic nervous system and high frequency has to do with Parasympathetic nervous system function. Within these various frequency bandwidths is the proprietary information unique to the HeartQuest© that can tell us information about meridians and other systems of the body that other heart rate variability technologies don’t have available. This HeartQuest© HRV system is designed for research and education. It should be used to see how various treatments performed in your office based on your scope of practice affect the regulatory systems seen on the HRV. This site is not for the purpose of selling the HQ but strictly for education. Call (866) 338-4883 for more information. Or visit www.brimhall.com
Originally Published on Nov 15, 2014 If you've watch the previous video chapter on Peak Cheap Oil, you may be wondering how any of that could be still be true given all the positive recent stories about shale oil and shale gas , many of which have proclaimed that “Peak Oil is dead”. The mainstream press has faithfully repeated every press and PR statement made by the shale producers. And if you simply followed the headlines, you might even believe this about the US: - It is soon going to be energy independent, - Its oil production will surpass even Saudi Arabia putting it in the number one spot, and - The US will even be exporting oil again like the days of old. The only problem with this story is that it is misleading in some very important ways. And entirely false in others. Here are there are five main things to know about the shale plays. 1. They deplete very quickly. The typical shale, or tight rock, well production declines by 80% to 90% within three years. 2. They are expensive. All oil and gas coming form them is several times more expensive than what we got from conventional oil plays. 3. They are environmentally damaging because the fracking fluid is highly toxic and much of it escapes during the blowback process and sometimes water wells are contaminated. 4. Because each well has low flow and depletes quickly, massive numbers of wells must be drilled creating significant infrastructure damage to roads and bridges. Currently no state or municipal authorities are capturing anything close to the total cost of the infrastructure damage from the shale operators which means taxpayers are gong to be left paying those bills. 5. Not all shale plays are created equal – some are vastly superior to others. And even within a given play there are sweet spots and dry holes which can only be determined by punching a well in and seeing what comes out. Some call this the ‘mapping by braille’ approach. When we put all of these together it adds up to a very expensive set of plays that will only last for a very short while. To the extent that mainstream press has been conveying the message that peak oil is dead and that our energy concerns have been laid to rest is the extent to which they have been misleading us. In many ways, the increased crude output from shale plays has bought us some time. We can either use the temporary boost in energy supplies, expensive though they are, to build towards a future when these too eventually run out, or we can use them as an excuse to carry on with business as usual. If we do choose business as usual as our operating strategy - I use that word very loosely – then we will just march straight into the shale oil peak around the year 2020 and be very disappointed with ourselves and our utterly inappropriate transportation infrastructure.

Today is all about oil and gas. We have brought in four expert panelists to discuss the current situation in recently volatile oil and gas markets in several contexts. The panel of four includes Marin Katusa, Chief Energy Investment Strategist at Casey Research; Daniel Alpert, Managing Partner at Westwood Capital; Rob Barnett, Senior Energy Economist at Bloomberg Government; and Philip Verleger, Owner & President of PKVerleger LLC. First, oil has been priced in dollars for decades. However, with the growing power of emerging markets, there is an undercurrent of discussion that dollar hegemony in oil markets might not last. Will countries like China, Russia and Brazil move away from the dollar. Our panelists weigh in. Then, the price of oil has dropped precipitously, with Brent Crude falling over $30 in the last few months. Why is oil falling so drastically and so suddenly and when will the drop stop? The panelists also weigh in here with commentary on who the winners are and who the losers are. After the break, RT correspondent Paula Slier comes to us from Iraq, where fighting has been intensifying. Our panelists tell us whether Iraq really matters in a world of excess capacity and what we should really be watching in the Middle East. Finally, the panel also weighs in on the huge opportunity in natural gas. While transportation infrastructure is still heavily geared to oil, fuel switching opportunities are increasing. With natural gas resources plentiful and cheap, this fuel could be the alternative energy source of note, even more than wind or solar power. Take a look! Hydraulic fracturing (also hydrofracturing, hydrofracking, fracking, or fraccing) is a well-stimulation technique in which rock is fractured by a hydraulically pressurized liquid. Some hydraulic fractures form naturally—certain veins or dikes are examples. A high-pressure fluid (usually chemicals and sand suspended in water) is briefly injected into a wellbore to create cracks in the deep-rock formations through which natural gas, petroleum, and brine will flow more freely. When the hydraulic pressure is removed from the well, small grains of hydraulic fracturing proppants (either sand or aluminium oxide) hold the fractures open once the deep rock achieves geologic equilibrium. The hydraulic fracturing technique is commonly applied to wells for shale gas, tight gas, tight oil, and coal seam gas. Such well stimulation is commonly used to increase flow rates. Hydraulic fracturing began as an experiment in 1947, and the first commercially successful application followed in 1949. As of 2012, 2.5 million hydraulic fracturing operations had been performed worldwide on oil and gas wells; over one million of those within the U.S. Hydraulic fracturing is highly controversial, proponents advocating economic benefits of more extensively accessible hydrocarbons, Opponents have voiced concerns for the environmental impact of hydraulic fracturing including contamination of ground water, depletion of fresh water, degradation of the air quality, the potential triggering of earthquakes, noise pollution, surface pollution, and the consequential risks to health and the environment. Increases in seismic activity following hydraulic fracturing along dormant or previously unknown faults are sometimes caused by the deep-injection disposal of hydraulic fracturing flowback (a byproduct of hydraulically fractured wells), and produced formation brine (a byproduct of both fractured and nonfractured oil and gas wells).[9] For these reasons, hydraulic fracturing is under international scrutiny, restricted in some countries, and banned altogether in others. Some of those countries, notably the U.K., contemplated repeal of bans on hydraulic fracturing in favor of regulation. The European Union is drafting regulations that would permit controlled application of hydraulic fracturing. Josh Fox's 2010 Academy Award nominated film Gasland [127] became a center of opposition to hydraulic fracturing of shale. The movie presented problems with ground water contamination near well sites in Pennsylvania, Wyoming, and Colorado.[128] Energy in Depth, an oil and gas industry lobbying group, called the film's facts into question.[129] In response, a rebuttal of Energy in Depth's claims of inaccuracy was posted on Gasland's website.[130] The Director of the Colorado Oil and Gas Conservation Commission (COGCC) offered to be interviewed as part of the film if he could review what was included from the interview in the final film but Fox declined the offer.[131] Exxon Mobil, Chevron Corporation and ConocoPhillips aired advertisements during 2011 and 2012 that claimed to describe the economic and environmental benefits of natural gas and argue that hydraulic fracturing was safe.[132] The film Promised Land, starring Matt Damon, takes on hydraulic fracturing.[133] The gas industry is making plans to try to counter the film's criticisms of hydraulic fracturing with informational flyers, and Twitter and Facebook posts.[132] On January 22, 2013 Northern Irish journalist and filmmaker Phelim McAleer released a crowdfunded[134] documentary called FrackNation as a response to the statements made by Fox in Gasland. FrackNation premiered on Mark Cuban's AXS TV. The premiere corresponded with the release of Promised Land.[135] On April 21, 2013, Josh Fox released Gasland 2, a documentary that states that the gas industry's portrayal of natural gas as a clean and safe alternative to oil is a myth, and that hydraulically fractured wells inevitably leak over time, contaminating water and air, hurting families, and endangering the earth's climate with the potent greenhouse gas methane. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hydraulic_fracturing
Art Berman, Labyrinth Consulting Services, Houston, talks to HGS about his research into the economics of drilling and producing unconventional reservoirs in the United States. He discusses the Eagle Ford, Haynesville, Barnett and other shale gas plays. Berman presents graphs that show shale gas uneconomic to drill and produce at current gas prices. He says the public is mislead by energy company statements that gas reserves are large and that companies are making a profit from shale gas. The Houston Geological Society is not responsible for content or conclusions presented in this talk.

Richard Heinberg is an American journalist and educator who has written extensively on energy, economic, and ecological issues, including oil depletion. He is the author of ten books. He serves as the senior fellow at the Post Carbon Institute.
Heinberg, after two years in college and a period of personal study, became personal assistant to Immanuel Velikovsky in November 1979 and after Velikovsky's death assisted Mrs. Velikovsky editing manuscripts. He published his first book in 1989, Memories and Visions of Paradise: Exploring the Universal Myth of a Lost Golden Age, which was the result of ten years of study of world mythology. An expanded second edition was published in 1995. He began publishing his alternative newsletter, the MuseLetter, in 1992. His next book was published in 1993: Celebrate the Solstice: Honoring the Earth's Seasonal Rhythms through Festival and Ceremony.
In June 1995, speaking to the International Society for the Comparative Study of Civilizations in Dayton, Ohio, Heinberg provided "A Primitivist Critique of Civilization" and discussed the ways in which "We are, it would seem, killing the planet."
