Coming off his success with Black Heart on the film festival circuit this past summer, indy film Producer/Director, Kenya Cagle wrote Brooklyn Gangster - The Jose Lucas Story, an action-packed drama based on a true story fictionalized for the screen, and co written by Executive Producer Nisha Parham. Cagle, who also helped write the screenplay for Lucas, and has done true-life stories he's adapted to film before, says about the production on The Jose Lucas Story that it's "...my best film ever...because it's what I think I'm good at—action, suspense, conflict, drama...this picture is gonna surprise a lot of people." Cagle has his devoted fans, and a loyal cast and crew of colorful souls that follow him from project to project, grueling shoot, to grueling (read: guerilla) shoot, anxious to have worked hard enough to win a spot on the next film-likely to begin casting before editing is done on the last film. This man is unstoppable.
Note the debut appearance of "take no prisoners" Executive Director and Screenwriter, Nisha Parham. This is her first credited roll in a Kenya Cagle film production. As Executive Producer (and his wife), Nisha Parham is known as "austerity" herself, keeping the production on a very short budget-leash. She has been one among many fans that help keep the film rolling, put butts in the seats from screening to screening, film to film since Cagle's earliest filmmaker days.
But with Brooklyn Gangster - The Jose Lucas Story, Nisha Parham is front and center. She is a witness to the backstory, a constantly clarifying voice reminding everyone on the film whose story they are telling and why. Nisha was there, she is the embodiment of this tragic family, their historic memory, it's more than a film to her. Because despite his exploits, his criminal notoriety, Jose Lucas was her own cousin. She was his conscience. He was like her beloved, but troublesome child.
Kenya and Nisha's daughter, Precious Parham, who played Karalee in Father Dad (2006), and had a role in Kenya Cagle's web series, Thug Kids, where she appears with acclaimed Jazz artist Monet Dunham (who also plays the poisonous Jackie in this film) plays Tenisha (Nisha in real life) and delivers an outstanding performance here playing her mother. Die-hard Kenya Cagle-files will recognize Precious also as the smart kid/young woman appearing in every Cagle short film. Kenya's son, Kenyae (kin-yay) Cagle play's his father, Tenisha's suitor, marshall arts devotee, cum filmmaker, Kenya. Kenyae is also a regular actor in all his father's films.

Kenya (
/ˈkɛnjə/ or /ˈkiːnjə/), officially the Republic of Kenya, is a country in East Africa that lies on the equator. With the Indian Ocean to its south-east, it is bordered by Tanzania to the south, Uganda to the west, South Sudan to the north-west, Ethiopia to the north and Somalia to the north-east. Kenya has a land area of 580,000 km2 and a population of nearly 41 million, representing 42 different peoples and cultures. The country is named after Mount Kenya, a significant landmark and second among Africa's highest mountain peaks. Kenya's capital and largest city is Nairobi.
Kenya has a warm and humid climate along its coastline on the Indian Ocean which changes to wildlife-rich savannah grasslands moving inland towards the capital Nairobi. Nairobi has a cool climate that gets colder approaching Mount Kenya, which has three permanently snow-capped peaks. The warm and humid tropical climate reappears further inland towards lake Victoria, before giving way to temperate forested and hilly areas in the western region. The North Eastern regions along the border with Somalia and Ethiopia are arid and semi-arid areas with near-desert landscapes. Lake Victoria, the world's second largest fresh-water lake (after Lake Superior in the US and Canada) and the world's largest tropical lake, is situated to the southwest and is shared with Uganda and Tanzania. Kenya is famous for its safaris and diverse world-famous wildlife reserves such as Tsavo National Park, the Maasai Mara, Nakuru National Park, and Aberdares National Park.

Cagle, who also helped write the screenplay for Lucas, and has done true-life stories he's adapted to film before, says about the production on The Jose Lucas Story that it's "...my best film ever...because it's what I think I'm good at—action, suspense, conflict, drama...this picture is gonna surprise a lot of people." Cagle has his devoted fans, and a loyal cast and crew of colorful souls that follow him from project to project, grueling shoot, to grueling (read: guerilla) shoot, anxious to have worked hard enough to win a spot on the next film-likely to begin casting before editing is done on the last film. Note the debut appearance of "take no prisoners" Executive Director and Screenwriter, Nisha Parham. This is her first credited roll in a Kenya Cagle film production. Jonny here, right now I am at Borana Ranch, high on the Laikipia Plateau, in the lee of Mount Kenya. And in this short film I am going to talk about tourism in Kenya.
If I asked what's the first thing you think about when turning your mind to travel in this colourful East African country, you'd almost certainly say wildlife. And of course you'd be right as over 80 percent of holidays here will have a wildlife element.
From the Marsabit National Park in the north, to the Masai Mara and Amboseli National Parks in the south, the planes of Kenya are teeming with wildlife or all shapes and sizes offering, along with its neighbour Tanzania, the best place in the world to view game. And if you throw in Mount Kenya and the Aberdares, the Laikipia Plateau and the Matthews Range, the Lamu Archipelago and the rest of the Kenyan coast, and some of the most spectacular and evocative accommodation anywhere on earth, then here in Kenya you have a true world class travel experience.
The Masai Mara is probably the most famous national park. Covering more than 500sqm, the Mara is universally renowned for its exceptional populations of lion, leopards, cheetahs, elephants, buffalo and giraffe and for the famous migration of wildebeest that takes place every year from July to October.
But the Masai Mara is by no means the only show in town. Further to the east you have Amboseli National Park with its epic views of Kilimanjaro, to the north you have Samburu, Marsabit and Meru National Parks, and here on Laikipia, in the Lewa conservancy, where the savannah is awash with elephants, giraffe, the quirky Grevy zebra and a new and burgeoning population of black rhino.
And as for the accommodation, well that is quite simply out of this world. Yes, to get the best you're going to pay, but in our opinion the experience you'll enjoy and quality of service you'll receive -- plus of course the game you'll see -- does make this value for money. There is simply nothing else like it on earth. Among many amazing places to stay, my personal favourites are Else's Kopje in Meru, Saruni in Samburu, Richard's Camp or Serian in the Mara, and either Sabuk or Borana here on the Laikipia Plateau.
But tourism in Kenya is not only about wild animals. The Kenyan Coast, stretching all the way from Diani Beach in the south the Lamu archipelago in the north, with its white sand beaches and gentle turquoise seas -- particularly when the trade winds are blowing in the right direction from November through to March -- again coupled with some fabulous accommodation, combine to make this a truly world class beach experience.
And if you like to meet the people -- an important factor in most Wild Frontiers adventures -- there are plenty of opportunities, particularly at Sarara, in the Matthews Range, at Il Ngwesi north or Mount Kenya and here at Borana.
To get around there is are great quality land cruisers, a brilliant air service, either in scheduled flights or on private charters, a classic bi-plane, or if you really want to push the boat out and get to places few others can reach, a truly amazing helicopter service, run by our friends at Tropic Air.
A classic African safari is a travel experience like no other, and one that all travellers should do at least once in their lives. And for that, in my opinion, there's nowhere better than Kenya.

Directly in front of the city gates is the Nairobi National Park, the oldest of all Kenya's nature parks. Groups of ostriches can be seen bathing in the hot sand. A number of springboks stroll around elegantly between scattered rocks and trees that have been uprooted by elephants close to the city's skyline.
Nairobi is a metropolis in the 'Realm of The Golden Sun' and is undoubtedly one of the most fascinating cities in the world.

Lake Naivasha is the ideal habitat for both the rare Fish Eagle and African Eagle, thus it is a perfect location from which to observe these fascinating birds. Due to its rich variety of wildlife and the spectacular beauty of its landscape Kenya is one of Africa’s most popular safari destinations. The Massai Mara National Park is located around six hours from Nairobi and is one of the country’s most extraordinary game reserves. Its name indicates the presence of one of Africa’s most colourful tribes, the Massai. The Amboseli National Park also contains many of East Africa’s most important landscapes and represents the magnificence of the African flora and fauna that grows in this relatively small, protected area. The local wildlife stays at a safe distance from the geysers of Lake Bogoria as the steaming hot springs can prove fatal for the flamingos and other water birds that live there. Nevertheless, quite often the bones of dead animals can be seen close to the geysers as some venture too close and are killed by the hot steam. At an altitude of nearly six thousand metres, Mount Kilimanjaro is the highest mountain on the African continent. For most of the time its summit is covered by a dense ring of cloud that gives the mountain an air of mystique. There are few other places on earth that offer the huge variety of nature as does the legendary east of the African continent. A magical destination and a wild natural paradise that is second to none!

In many parts of Africa, humor and satire are still a protest art. Gado, celebrated cartoonist, animator, and the mastermind behind Kenya's evening satirical puppet show XYZ, is proof of that. Whether in music, cartoons, essays or plays, humor is cleverly used to say the unspeakable, what many are afraid to say in the open, to challenge and speak truth to power while facing intimidation and many other challenges. Gado facilitates the workshop that interrogates the question: does protest art have any future?

The departure of "political saviors" from leadership will mark a new era for Georgian politics. Will Georgia consolidate its democracy and follow the path of the Baltic States toward the European Union and NATO, or will it falter in these pursuits like Ukraine and drift toward the Eurasian Union? Will the strong U.S. partnership be able to help guide Georgia through this transition? How do the possible scenarios for Georgia's immediate future impact vital U.S. interests in the region?
To discuss the next steps for Georgia's democratic development and the U.S. role in Georgia and the region, the Free University of Tbilisi, the Agricultural University of Georgia, and the German Marshall Fund of the United States are pleased to host: Georgia's Political Transition: Preserving a Euroatlantic Future of the Region.
