On August 15, 2011 the series was renewed for a 12-episode second season, which premiered on June 28, 2012.
On July 25, 2012, Awkward. was renewed for a third season, with the episode order increased from 12 to 20.

The series is based around social outcast Jenna Hamilton who, after receiving a "carefrontation" letter, has an accident making it seem as if she had tried to commit suicide. By making changes and embracing her misfortune, she becomes well-known by her peers. While dealing with her love life and her relationships with other peers she still has to manage the unfortunate drama that goes along with being a teenager.
Ashley Nicole Rickards (born May 4, 1992) is an American actress. She has been in various films and television shows portraying a wide variety of characters, most notably Fly Away, in which she portrayed Mandy, a severely autistic girl. She is also the lead character, Jenna Hamilton, in MTV's Awkward
Ashley graduated high school at 15 and is a member of Mensa. A former competitive equestrian, Ashley is on the board of directors for Project Futures Somaly Mam Foundation, which works to prevent and end human trafficking and sexual slavery in south east Asia and soon, worldwide. Ashley writes poetry, scripts, and enjoys painting in her spare time.
