Located on a brownfield site in the Bronx, Via Verde is a model for affordable, green, and healthy urban living. The project includes 222 mixed-income residential units, 7,500 square feet of retail and community space, and 40,000 square feet of green roofs and other open space for residents. The primary goal of the $98.8 million project was to provide a mix of rental and homeownership opportunities for people at a range of income levels to create a truly mixed-income community. A second goal was to address the community's health issues, particularly rising levels of childhood asthma and obesity caused, in part, by the lack of opportunities for exercise, fitness and healthy eating.
A series of green roofs serves as the organizing architectural element and gives a unique identity to the development. The building steps up from three-story townhouses at the southern end of the site to a 20-story tower at the north. South-facing solar panels generate power to light all common areas. The facade has prefabricated aluminum, cement, and wood panels, plus large windows, sunshades, and courtyard-facing balconies. Via Verde offers a healthier lifestyle to an urban neighborhood, with a rooftop vegetable garden, spaces for outdoor recreation and fitness activity, and a fitness facility. A Montefiore Medical Center wellness facility and a pharmacy occupy ground-floor space.
The name Via Verde means "green way" in Spanish and refers to the green rooftops and open areas connected by stairways that wind up from the ground-level courtyard.

Brownfield sites are abandoned or underused industrial and commercial facilities available for re-use. Expansion or redevelopment of such a facility may be complicated by real or perceived environmental contaminations. Cf. Waste (law).
In the United States urban planning jargon, a brownfield site (or simply a brownfield) is land previously used for industrial purposes or certain commercial uses. The land may be contaminated by low concentrations of hazardous waste or pollution, and has the potential to be reused once it is cleaned up. Land that is more severely contaminated and has high concentrations of hazardous waste or pollution, such as a Superfund site, does not fall under the brownfield classification. Mothballed brownfields are properties that the owners are not willing to transfer or put to productive reuse.
In the United Kingdom and Australia, the term applies more generally to previously used land or to sections of industrial or commercial facilities that are to be upgraded.
The term brownfields first came into use on June 28, 1992, at a U.S. congressional field hearing hosted by the Northeast Midwest Congressional Coalition. Also in 1992, the first detailed policy analysis of the issue was convened by the Cuyahoga County Planning Commission. The United States Environmental Protection Agency selected Cuyahoga County as its first brownfield pilot project in September 1993.

David William Donald Cameron (pronunciation: /ˈkæmərən/; born 9 October 1966) is the Prime Minister of the United Kingdom, First Lord of the Treasury, Minister for the Civil Service and Leader of the Conservative Party. He represents Witney as its Member of Parliament (MP).
Cameron studied Philosophy, Politics and Economics (PPE) at Oxford, gaining a first class honours degree. He then joined the Conservative Research Department and became Special Adviser to Norman Lamont, and then to Michael Howard. He was Director of Corporate Affairs at Carlton Communications for seven years.
He was defeated in his first candidacy for Parliament at Stafford in 1997, but was elected in 2001 as the Member of Parliament for the Oxfordshire constituency of Witney. He was promoted to the Opposition front bench two years later, and rose rapidly to become head of policy co-ordination during the 2005 general election campaign. With a public image of a youthful, moderate candidate who would appeal to young voters, he won the Conservative leadership election in 2005.

Located on a brownfield site in the Bronx, Via Verde is a model for affordable, green, and healthy urban living. The project includes 222 mixed-income residential units, 7,500 square feet of retail and community space, and 40,000 square feet of green roofs and other open space for residents. The primary goal of the $98.8 million project was to provide a mix of rental and homeownership opportunities for people at a range of income levels to create a truly mixed-income community. A second goal was to address the community's health issues, particularly rising levels of childhood asthma and obesity caused, in part, by the lack of opportunities for exercise, fitness and healthy eating.
A series of green roofs serves as the organizing architectural element and gives a unique identity to the development. The building steps up from three-story townhouses at the southern end of the site to a 20-story tower at the north. South-facing solar panels generate power to light all common areas. The facade has prefabricated aluminum, cement, and wood panels, plus large windows, sunshades, and courtyard-facing balconies. Via Verde offers a healthier lifestyle to an urban neighborhood, with a rooftop vegetable garden, spaces for outdoor recreation and fitness activity, and a fitness facility. A Montefiore Medical Center wellness facility and a pharmacy occupy ground-floor space.
The name Via Verde means "green way" in Spanish and refers to the green rooftops and open areas connected by stairways that wind up from the ground-level courtyard.

This project advanced strategic thinking and community engagement toward realizing the potential for the 240 acre Rock Renaissance Area and six high priority redevelopment sites. The Rock Renaissance Area Redevelopment and Implementation Strategy is known as ARISE.
This project won a 2015 Merit Award for Analysis and Planning from the Wisconsin Chapter of the American Society of Landscape Architects.
The planning effort interpreted existing site environmental information, incorporated community planning efforts for the downtown, and assessed current market opportunities to maximize green and healthy design, facilitate future private development, improve river access, and spur job creation. The resulting draft plan will be a vision and implementation strategy for the Rock Renaissance Area, including improved connectivity, cohesive land use patterns, enhanced public space, and redevelopment recommendations and implementation strategies for the six key redevelopment sites.
Funding has been granted by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency through a Brownfields Area-Wide Planning Program.

The government will build 50,000 more houses on Green Belt land, according to a new report published today by the Campaign to Protect Rural England (CPRE) ... “Councils are already expected to prioritise development on brownfield sites.” ...
