Narrator recounts the history of Charles Pathe coming to England to found the first British newsreel in 1910. C/U of the "Pathe Freres Cinema Limited" logo at the entrance to the Pathe building. Film industry "shop windows." Posters advertising "Above Us the Waves" and "As Long as They're Happy." Elstree and Pinewood Studios are mentioned. Corner of Wardour and Oxford Street - a place where films are shot. A car pulls up outside and Susan Stephen and Lawrence Ward walk into "Pathe House". Sylvia Shelley, June Thorburn and her husband also attend a private screening - a small crowd watch them arrive. Sign above the door reads: "Pathe House - the home of Pathe News, Pathe Pictorial." Camera pans up to show the top floor where the vaults are located. C/U of stacks of cans on shelves. Underneath each stack is a year - 1920, 1919, 1918 etc. Narrator calls them "This is Yesterday, the headlines and the highlights, the history books of our times, the mirror in which our grandchildren will see us. Tilt up to show the vast number of cans. "On film our yesterdays endure for generations to come." Narrator talks of how film is preserved from the very beginning of moving pictures. A woman in white with white gloves pulls out a nice shiny can and shows it to the camera. In the projection room, the projectionist loads a reel of film onto his projector. Interior of Pathe screening room. It is the 37th birthday party of the only weekly magazine in the world - Pathe Pictorial. The Pictorial is about to be made in colour, "but before saying goodbye to the black and white world..." some of the people who have appeared in the magazine have been invited to watch some of the old Pictorials. The actress Jean Simmons is a guest, as are Henry Hall and Jack Payne - the dance band leaders. Shots of the audience and projectionist. C/U of Terry Ashwood and Howard Thomas - Pathe producers.
