German Shorthaired Pointer

Hip Dysplasia

  • OFA Evaluation - OR
  • PennHIP Evaluation

Congenital Cardiac Database

  • OFA evaluation - Exam by Cardiologist required - min age 24 months

Eye Examination by a boarded ACVO Ophthalmologist - annual exams until age 6 recommended

  • Results registered with OFA - OR
  • Results registered with CERF

Cone Degeneration

  • DNA Based Cone Degeneration test results registered with the OFA. Clicking on the Cone Degeneration hotlink will access the OFA website with a matrix of labs known to offer this test.

Elbow Dysplasia

  • OFA Evaluation

Autoimmune thyroiditis (Optional)

  • OFA evaluation from an approved laboratory - It is recommended that the test be repeated every two years.

von Willebrand's Disease (Optional)

The following CHIC requirements for GSPs will be changing effective May 1, 2014: Cardiac - the minimum age will be raised from 12 to 24 months Elbows - will become required

*Note – In addition to the breed specific requirements above, a CHIC requirement across all participating breeds is that the dog must be permanently identified via microchip or tattoo in order to qualify for a CHIC number.
