Jim
Travis and his wife Kim built the
Jamestown &
Turtle Creek Interchange model railroad over a period of about eight years. In
January 2014 with the pending sale of their home and a move to a new home in the near future, it was time to dismantle and pack up their railroad
.
In the beginning of the video, Jim describes the purpose of the railroad and various features
. In the latter part of the program, you will see in detail the scenery and structures that made the J&
TCI both a challenge and a joy to operate and work on.
This was the final run of trains on the Jamestown & Turtle Creek Interchange on the eve of the
North Atlanta Rail Barons de-construction and packing of the structures, motive power, rolling stock, and all of the other trackage and accessories the next day - a process that took seven members of the group about eight hours to complete.
Jim is a
Charter Member of the North Atlanta Rail Barons operating group in
Northwest Atlanta, GA. Members of the group were also instrumental in helping to build the railroad and staged numerous Operating
Sessions on the J&TCI.; It was always a challenging and enjoyable experience.
The Jamestown & Turtle Creek Interchange was an annual participant in the
Piedmont Pilgrimage, an open house layout event staged by the Piedmont
Division,
Southeastern Region,
National Model Railroad Association,
Inc. which occurs on weekends in October and November each year.
Nearly 90 modelers in the Division participate each year, and the J&TCI; still holds the record for over
150 visitors in one day.
Jim and Kim are settling into their new home, and planning is already underway for a new and more expansive Jamestown & Turtle Creek Interchange model railroad. When it happens, our cameras will be there.
