Hainan’s Bird-loving Week: Raising public awareness about the protection of China’s diverse wildlife
The 2016 Hainan Bird-loving Week, themed Protecting Birds according to the law, building a beautiful China, was kicked off at Yingcai Primary School in Haikou City, Hainan Province on March 25. The Hainan Project co-hosted the event along with the Hainan Forestry Department, and Haikou Country People’s government with the goal to increase public awareness on wildlife protection. The Hainan project is part of the greater United Nations Development Programme (UNDP)- Global Environment Facility (GEF) Wetland Protected Area System Strengthening for Biodiversity Conservation programme.

The Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs)build on the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs), eight anti-poverty targets that the world committed to achieving by 2015. Enormous progress has been made on the MDGs, showing the value of a unifying agenda underpinned by goals and targets. Despite this success, the indignity of poverty has not been ended for all.
The SDGs will now finish the job of the MDGs, and ensure that no one is left behind.

It illustrates UNDP’s support to poverty reduction and conservation of natural resources, strengthening democratic governance, building resilience and responding to crisis.
