The exercises saw Russia's North Fleet use ships and military vehicles to stage defence techniques in the scenario of attacks by sea or air on the archipelago of the New Siberian Islands, Russian media reported.
Video of the exercises showed deck guns aboard military ships and anti-aircraft missile launchers open fire repeatedly.
The military drills included Russia's navy practising destruction of launched missiles on the outskirts of the site.
Both Russia and NATO have recently stepped up military manoeuvres since the outbreak of conflict in Ukraine between government forces and pro-Russian separatists in the east of the former Soviet republic.
The Kremlin has said that Russia would update its military doctrine this year in light of the Ukraine crisis and the sharp deterioration in relations with NATO.

The Kremlin has recently become more strident in its actions in the Arctic. The Russian airforce has flown fighter jets close to American and Canadian airspace in the region. While Moscow also recently reopened a military base stationed in the Arctic.
The polar region is thought to contain over 20 per cent of the world's future energy reserves. Major Russian drilling in the region recently led to the discovery of billions of barrels of oil.

A 40,000-year-old mummified mammoth called Yuka went on display at the Central House of Artists in Moscow on Tuesday.
After a 14-day journey from Vladivostok the Russian capital, the mammoth was placed in a specially-built cryogenic chamber at a temperature of -18°C (-0.4°F). The chamber has windows which allow passers-by to see the beast as part of an exhibition called 'Mammoth Yuka is an Ambassador of Peace'.
The mammoth was found in 2010 on the shores of the Laptev Sea in Yakutia, from where it got the name 'Yuka'. It is the first specimen to be found with its carcass completely preserved.

The first ship from the Russian Northern Fleet's mission to Kotelnyi Island began journeying home on Monday, but not before testing its air defences in the hostile cold of Laptev Sea.
The Admiral Levchenko destroyer successfully engaged a SSC-3 Styx anti-ship cruise missile fired from one of the newly set-up batteries on Kotelnyi Island.
The exercise was staged as ferocious polar conditions tested equipment to the limit, resulting in almost every weapon in the destroyer's anti-aircraft arsenal being fired. On shore the SA-22 Greyhound mobile air defence system was successfully fired. Helix ship-based military helicopters, which are common in the navy, were also involved in the drills.
The next mission for the Russian Northern Fleet will be to establish a permanent base on the largest island, Kotelnyi, of the New Siberian Archipelago.
The Admiral Levchenko is on its way home through the ice-fields to Severomorsk where the Russian Northern Fleet is based.
