A bandleader is the leader of a band of musicians. The term is most commonly, though not exclusively, used with a group that plays popular music as a small combo or a big band, such as one which plays jazz, blues, rhythm and blues or rock and roll music.
Most bandleaders are also performers with their own band. The bandleader role is dependent on a variety of skills, not just musicianship. A bandleader needs to be a music director and performer. Often the bands are named after their bandleaders. Some older bands have continued operating under their bandleaders' names long after the death of the original bandleader.
Stephen Tyrone Colbert ( /koʊlˈbɛər/ or /ˈkoʊlbərt/; born May 13, 1964) is an American political satirist, writer, comedian, television host, and actor. He is the host of Comedy Central's The Colbert Report, a satirical news show in which Colbert portrays a caricatured version of conservative political pundits.
Colbert originally studied to be an actor, but became interested in improvisational theatre when he met famed Second City director Del Close while attending Northwestern University. He first performed professionally as an understudy for Steve Carell at Second City Chicago; among his troupe mates were comedians Paul Dinello and Amy Sedaris, with whom he developed the critically acclaimed sketch comedy series Exit 57.
Colbert also wrote and performed on the short-lived Dana Carvey Show before collaborating with Sedaris and Dinello again on the cult television series Strangers with Candy. He gained considerable attention for his role on the latter as closeted gay history teacher Chuck Noblet. It was his work as a correspondent on Comedy Central's news-parody series The Daily Show, however, that first introduced him to a wide audience.

Plot: A weary young woman, Iris Brevard, is forced to move in with her overbearing mother, Min, following her husband's suicide. She finds her only escape from her mother's badgering is to verbally fight back and to hide herself in an alcoholic haze. Unfortunately, her young teen son, Lonnie, observes all of this and finds himself torn between the two women. The older woman is multi-dimensional as she is clearly shown as manipulative and critical, but also as loving and charming. This is clearly shown in scenes with Fred Ward as the father of a bride-to-be who comes to the women's bridal gown shop to stop the purchase of his daughter's wedding dress. After facing Rowlands, he willingly writes the check for the next dress payment. The film also raises questions about whether Min was responsible for the suicide of Iris' husband. As Lonnie questions his father's death and is faced with similar pressures, he also clearly is considering his life options.

Plot: Two people have been murdered in Clayton by a mysterious killer using a blow-gun. Socialite club-leader Phoebe Witherspoon comments that "the town needs another Ma Pilkington, the best police chief the town ever had", and the town's newspaper editor, Henry Wright sends reporter Breezy to find the late Ma Pilkington's daughter, Jane "Pilky" Pilkington. She is given the job of tracking down the killer and policeman Mulligan is assigned to assist her. But after two more unsolved murders, Wright buys "Pilky" a ticket back to Horsetrot, the town in which they found her, and summons a Chicago detective to take over the case. "Pilky" is depressed by this turn of events and more so when she learns that Breezy is engaged to Maybelle, an actress. Mulligan is also fired. The killer strikes again by killing stage producer Tommy-Gun Tucker and the Chicago detective decides to go back to the safe confines of the Windy City, leaving "Pilky" again in charge. She sees Maybelle take a note out of Tucker's pocket during the investigation. She filches the note and, through it, tracks down the killer as being town coroner Dr. Bleaker, who was mixed up in some shady deals with Tucker and Maybelle. Mulligan is re-instated and "Pilky" remains in Clayton as the police chief.
