Johnstone (Scots: Johnstoun,Scottish Gaelic: Baile Iain) is a town in the council area of Renfrewshire and larger historic county of the same name in the west central Lowlands of Scotland.
The town lies 3 miles (5 km) west of neighbouring Paisley and 12 miles (19 km) west of the centre of the city of Glasgow. Part of the biggest conurbation in Scotland, Johnstone is at the western edge of the Greater Glasgow Urban Area.
The town was a planned community created in the latter half of the 18th century by the local Laird, George Ludovic Houston who held an estate in the town, the remains of which are known as Johnstone Castle. Industrial development brought coal mining, thread-making and cotton weaving to Johnstone causing it to grow considerably in size, expanding out in the 1930s with a number of newly built residential areas which addressed the problem of population density in the historic area of the town. Today it supports a small commercial centre and serves as a commuter settlement for Paisley and Glasgow.
Derek Joseph Johnstone (born 4 November 1953) is a former Scottish football player and manager.
Johnstone played mainly for Rangers during his career. He also had a spell at Chelsea and a brief stint in management with Partick Thistle. He mainly played as a striker but could also perform in central defence, and in midfield. Uniquely, he was selected to play in defence, midfield, and attack for Scotland.
Johnstone, a boyhood Dundee United supporter, signed for Rangers as a schoolboy in 1968. He turned professional in 1970 and made his debut on 19 September 1970, aged 16 years and 319 days. Johnstone scored two goals in that match, a 5–0 victory against Cowdenbeath.
Johnstone thrust himself into the limelight a few months later when his header secured a 1–0 victory over Celtic in the Scottish League Cup Final of 1970–71. Johnstone was just sixteen-years-old at the time, but the faith shown in his ability by manager Willie Waddell paid off handsomely, as Rangers claimed their first piece of silverware for almost five years.

On a day off work, I travel out to Banff National Park to do the Johnston Canyon hike, which includes beautiful views of the canyon and the upper and lower falls. My friend Jesse came with me, and we finished the excursion within a couple hours (although we took our time). My favourite part was going through a tunnel at one point to get a better view of the lower falls. All in all it was a great trip, and I highly recommend checking this place out if you are in Banff National Park, as it is a hike that really gives you exactly what makes the Rocky Mountains so unique. Chris Sutton, Derek Johnstone, Rangers F.C. Derek Johnstone and Chris Sutton waged a war of words on radio tonight with the former Celtic star branding the Rangers legend a 'puppet' for the Ibrox club. The bitter exchange came as the pundits appeared on Clyde 1 Superscoreboard. Sutton said: "I’m led to believe that Derek Johnstone the other night, made some comments about me saying I was deliberately trying to cause controversy. "Well, I work in the media now and you’ve got someone sitting there next to you who is an embarrassment to the media profession. He’s an apologist, he’s a charlatan, he’s a Rangers puppet, he’s a cheerleader, that’s what he is."I saw Derek the other night in the director’s box and he took one look at me and popped out." Johnstone hit back: "You’ve had you...

Here is what happened when we sent former Celtic striker Chris Sutton to Lennoxtown to interview current Celtic manager, Ronny Deila.
Tommy Burns first Glasgow derby as a manager sees his team run out convincing winners thanks to superb goals from midfield duo McStay and Collins. One and half hours video of "Ringing the Devil's Knell at Dewsbury Minster". Christmas Eve, 24th December 2015. Starting at 10:30 pm 6 ringers take it un turn to ring 100 blows. The aim is to finish exactly on midnight. Do watch the changeovers. Significant dates also appear notated. In 1434, a local knight, Sir Thomas de Soothill, flew into a rage upon hearing that a servant boy had failed to attend church that week. He grabbed the boy and, lifting him up, threw him into a mill pond, where the boy drowned. Overwhelmed by remorse at the murder, and as an act of penance, de Soothill paid for a new 1300-weight tenor bell for the Parish Church (now Dewsbury Minster), asking for it to be tolled at his funeral as people prayed for his soul. Sir Thomas also instituted the practice that ...
