OK, this is as close to simulating an actual human torso as I can get without actually shooting someone... and I'm told that's against the law... lol
I wanted to use Pig Hearts in this test, but could not find anyone in my area that could provide them... so I instead used some tough skirt steak meat, and rolled it up into a heart shaped and size. This should pretty closely match the muscle densit

I was given this Block of TSA Spec ballistic gel from The Wound Channel. You can subscribe to them here: https://www.youtube.com/user/wjpurnell I appreciate the fact that this block of gel is essentially coagulated petroleum jelly. I will continue to conduct scientific experiments with this brand of ballistics gel! Filmed with three Sony HD AVCHD Camcorders; HDR-CX190. Edited in Final Cut Pro X. The title of this video is: Red Hot Muzzle Brake vs BALLISTICS GEL (RHMB)
Placing a red hot AK-74 style muzzle brake in various substances and observing the results. Scientifically. This is a study in thermodynamics. Motivated by curiosity, viewer suggestions and what random stuff I have laying around. RHMB started as a satirical spoof on the RHNB (Red Hot Nickel Ball) phenomenon. I intended to make a couple videos and then move on to something new. However, motivated by a huge positive response and viewer suggestions I just kept doing them. Recently I lost the RHMB for several months. But eventually found it! Future RHMB videos will feature items such as an iPhone, the tactical head and more ammo. Stay tuned and thanks for watching!

This video has content from other channels, I will post the ones I know in the notes. This is simply to make my point that with modern ammunition that "killing ability" between these calibers is, for the most part, the same. I know that a bigger bullet makes a bigger hole, I get that. But with modern ammunition they all will get it done.
Note: I put the frames of Larry Potterfield from Midway USA and his Concealed Carry Gun test in the video because he makes a big deal in his scoring for choosing a carry gun. Now I respect Mr. Potterfield's opinion, he knows a lot about guns from being in the industry forever, however he give the G22 an 80 point advantage in the "time to first hit" category because it take .3 or so seconds longer for him to get the shot off on the Glock 17 than it does the Glock 22. The weapon systems are EXACTLY the same size, weight, sight radius. EVERYTHING! But I put this in the video (with no sound, just me talking) because it shows that the recoil from the .40S&W; is enough to cause him to miss a shot off his 10" plate at 20'. THIS IS MY POINT, the recoil from the high pressure rounds is enough to make accurate shots harder and you are not gaining anything by carrying a .40 or .357 over the 9mm other than more recoil. The gel doesn't lie, all of the calibers are good enough to kill.

This should pretty closely match the muscle density of going through a human heart.
Unlike my previous simulated human torso ballistics test, this time I embedded both the ribs and the simulated hearts directly into the gel block. I just don't see how I can come any closer to simulating the real thing than I did in this test! I also show some slow motion of the bullet impact on simulated torso.
Since there was only room in the gel block for two simulated hearts, I choose to shoot my two most used carry ammo rounds for this test. The first shot was a 9mm Lehigh Defense maximum expansion bullet, and the second round was the Lehigh Defense 45 Colt Judge/Governor maximum expansion bullet.

This demonstration shows the difference between the two most common types of bullets. The most effective bullet is a bullet that stops the target in just one shot. But there are circumstances when it’s better to wound the enemy, rather than kill them.

Q: What server am I playing Arma games on, who are these people, and can you join?
A: It's the private server for my community, Shack Tactical. As of 2014 we've been around for eight years, and I wouldn't trade it for anything - we have a fantastic memberbase and it makes for amazing gameplay in Arma and elsewhere. You can read more about us here: http://www.shacktac.com
Q: What mods does ShackTac use in Arma?
A: I keep a list of them here: http://dslyecxi.com/shacktac_wp/shacktac-server-modset/
Q: Does ShackTac play mostly coop or mostly PvP/adversarial in Arma?
A: We do a mix of about 70% adversarial and 30% coop - both offer unique experiences and are a blast to play.
Q: How long have you been playing the Arma series?
A: I've been here from the start, with my Operation Flashpoint experience beginning with the demo's release in 2001. I went into the US Marine Corps shortly after (no relation!) and in 2004 I started playing OFP in multiplayer. 2006 saw me found ShackTac, which started in OFP and then transitioned through Arma 1, Arma 2, and finally, Arma 3. I hope to continue this for a long time into the future, as well as share the ride with viewers like you, as corny as that sounds!

In this introduction to advanced internal ballistics, Rex walks through the sequence of events that occurs within the chamber and barrel from when the cartridge is chambered till the bullet exits the muzzle. Rex explains how primers work and shows the differences between boxer and berdan primers. Rex shows how the pressure builds up in the chamber until the shot-start pressure is reached which begins the motion of the projectile down the bore. Rex shows the pressure curve builds as gas is continuously burned and how the curve is effected by the all-burnt-position. This video explains important concepts that will be important to understand as we get into more detail in the subject of internal ballistics.
All the music, animations, and photography in this video were created by TiborasaurusRex, and unsigned artist.

Hello GY6nation, today we have a very unique ballistics test. We are testing the 9mm Makarov round, against the standard 9mm Luger. I haven't seen a whole lot of test between these rounds, even though I have heard a lot of people talk about them.
The Makarov is 95gr in weight and box stated for 1000FPS. While the 9mm Luger is 115gr in weight and box stated for 1140FPS. The barrels on these two handguns are within an IN. of each other, so this should be a very good test.
Let me know in the comments section what you think, and what you think I should test next.

The FBI block used in my videos was from Clear Ballistics gel. See more about it here:
http://clearballistics.com
The invention of the G2R's projectile R.I.P.™ is related to the ability to control the way the projectile reacts as it passes through different mediums by control of the mfg process, geometry and the rate of failure at different zones along its axial length. More particularly but not limited to the ability to take the projectile and predictably have it stay solid in one medium but yet have the exact same projectile predictably react as a fragmenting bullet through a different medium without alteration of the projectile. The geometry at the tip of the projectile has much to do with the way the projectile travels through tissue. It has been long known in the medical industry that a trocar point penetrates the dermis layer more efficiently. Patents for trocars appeared early in the 19th century, although their use dated back possibly thousands of years. It is the use of this geometry at the front end of the projectile that does specific work at the point of entry from one system to the next. Dependent on the medium the projectiles geometry is designed to react differently.
Imagine a Hole saw. The hole saw action that occurs at points of entry into different mediums reduce initial drag which allow the hollow cavity in the center of the projectile to rapidly pack. In the case of plywood the hole saw action cleanly cuts and packs the projectile with a slug that makes it solid thus allowing it to conserve more of its energy. This performance could prove to be very effective for law enforcement that may be in a situation where the target is behind such an obstacle whereas more energy will be carried into the intended target and not lost in the obstacle.
In a fluid the projectile fragments. Due to the trocar geometry of each petal the resulting diameter of the fragmentation pattern is maximized. The trocar tips allow the fragments to swim through tissue / gel with less resistance thus conserving energy. The cross sectional thicknesses and geometries also create a full 180 degree flip halfway along each of the 8 petals path. The resulting shock wave and wound path is maximized. The result is devastating.
The G2 Research R.I.P. 9mm:
* Up to 6" diameter spread
* 96 gr projectile
* 2" grouping at 25 yrds
* 1265 FPS / 370 Muzzle Energy
* 9 Separate Wound Channels
* Precision Machined
* Solid Copper / Lead Free

Ballistics gel test at a laser-measured 210 yards with the .223 Remington Hornady Superformance Varmint V-MAX, 53 grain. What better method for evaluating the performance of varmint ammo than at typical varmint hunting distances? Test rifle is the Bushmaster Varminter, 24" barrel. Brief pre-shot review, followed by full review of the bullet track, etc. from the 210 yard shot. I am using SIM-TEST Ballistic Testing Media, calibrated to the same specs as ordinance gelatin.
Filmed on remote private property with an ample backstop. I was the only person in the vicinity during this session.
Filmed with two Sony HD AVCHD camcorders; HDR-CX560 at 28 mbps 60p and HDR-CX110 at 24 mbps.
EDITING: Sony Vegas Movie Studio HD Platinum 10, MP4, 30p, 16 mbps.

So I took the Zombie Tools Diphos for a while to see what it does against the ballistic gel, to test the blade as well the gel itself.
A solid 20% gel block like that in and of itself is not very suitable for testing a sword. I plan to re-mold it with other materials inside though, which should work out better.

There are many different ballistic software programs out there that do a great job at calculating these things, so please feel free to use which ever software you are most satisfied with. These templates are designed to give you that flexibility to plug in wha

SNIPER 101 Part 58 - Ballistics Tables - Muzzle Velocity Variation (1/2)
Muzzle velocity is NOT a constant! It varies considerable due to a host of factors. In order to successfully engage targets at long range it is CRUCIAL that you be able to predict account for your MVV (muzzle velocity variation). This is the entrance key into effectively setting your ballistics tables. Whether you will be using ballistic software in the field, ballistic cards, or using a cal

CCI STINGER vs CCI VELOCITOR - Ballistics Discussion
**Don't Forget to Rate, Comment, and Subscribe!!**
Which one would I choose? Here is the answer...
Stinger:
32gr Bullet
1640 FPS
Velocitor
40gr Bullet
1435 FPS
The Velocitor has a 20% heavier bullet and is 12.5% slower then the Stinger. What the extra MASS will give you is better longer range ballistic, better terminal ballistics (as penetration goes). It is still considered a hype

In this video, Rex introduces the fundamentals of long range external ballistics. Rex covers: Newton's 1st Law of Motion, the forces that affect projectile flight characteristics, components of a parabolic trajectory curve, and the affects of gravity on the bullet. Rex also discusses how the drag characteristics of projectiles affect their trajectory. Velocity and other terms such as ascending branch, maximum ordinate, descending branch, and terminus are defined. This may be review to experienced shooters, but is essential information for all to know before we get into advanced external ballistics later on.

This video tutorial shows the process of using JBM ballistics to calculate the drop data needed to fill in our ballistic table templates. There are many different ballistic software programs out there that do a great job at calculating these things, so please feel free to use which ever software you are most satisfied with. These templates are designed to give you that flexibility to plug in what you want. JBM ballistics is a very good program that I recommend for the purposes of this shooting discipline. Although I have developed similar programs using Excel for my own purposes, adjusting the various inputs and parameters for your chosen output units (meters/MOA/MRADs, etc...) has proven exceedingly difficult and is not near as flexible as this system. Pasting the information into the templates (as shown in this video) from JBM ballistics or any other appropriate programs will yield the best results and will be much easier to do. If you try this long-hand, you may wish to die.
NOTE: Your calculated ballistic data will only be as precise as the inputs you enter into the program. Be sure to triple check all of your inputs before calculating. Pay special attention to your MVs at the various temperatures. Logging your MV variation at different ammunition temperatures is a CRUCIAL component in getting good data back from this or any other software. Actual MVs in any rifle change over time due to a number of factors. Be sure to keep an eye on your MVs.
Much more to come! Stay tuned and share this with your friends!
Here are the TEMPLATE links: when you open these, click on the downward pointing arrow button on the upper left side to open the adjustable Excel sheet.

wn.com/Sniper 101 Part 64 Jbm Ballistics Intro

Muzzle velocity is NOT a constant! It varies considerable due to a host of factors. In order to successfully engage targets at long range it is CRUCIAL that you be able to predict account for your MVV (muzzle velocity variation). This is the entrance key into effectively setting your ballistics tables. Whether you will be using ballistic software in the field, ballistic cards, or using a calc form to come up with your firing solutions, this information is key to getting your ballistic data arranged in a way that will be effective across various bore conditions and multiple ammunition temperature ranges.

Video DETAILED NOTES:
Muzzle Velocity Variation (MVV)
A. Bore/projectile Dynamics and MVV
1. Bore wear - Gas escaping around the projectile decreases chamber pressure and can lower MV
2. Fowling - An increase in bore resistance to projectile movement before peak pressure increases the pressure developed within the barrel and can cause MVV.
3. Coppering
a) Slight coppering resulting from firing a small sample of rounds at higher charges tends to increase muzzle velocity.
b) Erratic velocity performance is a result of excessive coppering whereby the resistance of the bore to projectile movement is affected.
4. Bore Temperature - Variations in bore resistance can be caused by temperature differences between the inner and outer surfaces of the barrel.
5. Projectile Temperature
6. Barrel Memory - Originally observed in field artillery -- According to the FM 6-40: Tube Memory is a physical phenomenon of the cannon tube tending to react to the firing stress in the same manner for each round, even after changing charges. It seems to "remember" the muzzle velocity of the last charge fired. For example, if a fire mission with charge 6 M4A2 is followed by a fire mission with charge 4 M4A2, the muzzle velocity of the first round of charge 4 may be unpredictably higher. The inverse is also true.
B. Rifle manufacturing tolerances and MVV
1. Chamber dimensions
a) headspace
b) bolt lockup
c) chamber size
C. Ammunition Inconsistencies and MVV
1. Minimizing Ammunition Inconsistencies that increase MVV
a) Factory Ammo -- buy premium quality match grade ammo
b) Reloading -- you control quality and can custom developed loads
D. Ammunition Temperature and MVV
1. Propellant Burn Rate Changes with Temperature
Ammunition Burn Rate Curve
1. Setting up and Ammunition Burn Rate Conversion Chart
2. Causes of Ammo Temperature Changes
a. Ambient Air Temp
b. Sunlight
c. Chamber Temperature
(1) cold bore shot
(2) hot bore shots
- cycling ammo in chamber
3. Dealing with Ammunition Temp Issues
a. Use Ammo Burn Rate Conversion Chart
b. Ammo Storage - The temperature of cartridges in sealed containers remains somewhat insulated from differences in ambient air temperature. Once a cartridge has been unpacked, its temperature more rapidly approaches the air temperature. The time and type of exposure to the weather results in temperature variations from round to round and the shooter must be aware of this.
These precautions will allow propellant and projectile temperatures to approach the air temperature at a uniform rate throughout the firing unit.
4. Also, copper jacket lubricity changes with temp, as does brass case and the lead bullet core plasticity -- all can affect MV.

1. Internal Ballistics -- and all the possible factors that cause variations in either MV or in Point of Aim as the bullet begins its motion and how to correct for them.
• We will discuss the nature of propellants and how they affect projectile movement / pressures
• We will discuss different factors that can affect the MV of a projectile
o Variations in ammunition / reloading tips / non-uniformities -- propellant moisture, primer seating, bullet seating, case dimensions, powder weight, orientation of grains in a case, projectile weight/profile, etc...
o Tolerances in different weapons
o How bore wear affects muzzle velocity
o Propellant Temperatures
o Projectile and Bore Temperatures
o Coppering
o Powder Fowling
o Bore conditioning and barrel memory
• We will talk about how other factors can cause the axis of the bore at the breech to differ slightly from the axis of the bore at the muzzle
o Muzzle Jump variations due to inconsistent rifle deployment -- bipods vs sandbags, deployment and marksmanship techniques
o Whip action - harmonics
o Deflections due to muzzle break pull-off.
o Other tips
2. Intermediate ballistics -- we will mention how suppressors effect the transition of the projectile from internal progression to external flight
3. External Ballistics -- is the science of all the factors that affect the flight path of the projectile after its exits the muzzle.
• We will discuss everything you will need to know: how changes in ambient air temperature, humidity and barometric pressure affect the bullet. We will talk about wind, how to set up Microsoft excel to make corrections for coreolis effect, how and why spin drift occurs and much much more.
4. Terminal Ballistics -- is the study of what happens once the projectile arrives at its destination.
After this we will show you how to get through the nightmare of all these constantly changing and varying complexities with TiborasaurusRex's improved system of field expedient ballistic tables.

It is still considered a hypervelocity ammo. The Stinger will expanded in tissue faster and more violently, but will not penetrate as far as the Velocitor. When we are talking a light slower bullet like the .22LR I'd rather have as much penetration as possible.
What will stop an intruder or offender:
1. Disruption of the central nervous system which includes the Brain, Brain Stem, and Spinal Cord.
2. Disruption of the hearts ability to pump blood by either damage to the heart itself or hypovolemic shock (blood loss).
3. Disruption of the bodies ability to oxygenate the blood by damage to the Lungs.
4. Disruption to the Musculoskeletal system. This is less dependable in it's effectiveness.
