Nickelodeon UK and Ireland is a television channel dedicated to kids' programming. In the UK and Ireland it is operated under a joint venture between Viacom International Media Networks Europe and Sky plc.
On 1 September 1993, a localised version of the US channel launched in the United Kingdom and much later in Ireland. In the United Kingdom, the channel is available on Sky, Virgin Media, and TalkTalk Plus TV. In Ireland, the channel is available on Virgin Media Ireland, eVision and Sky Ireland.
The channel launched on satellite (as part of British Sky Broadcasting's Sky Multichannels package) on 1 September 1993, originally airing for 12 hours and showing both cartoons and live action series. Off air the channel would air static logos, schedule information and teletext. Live presentation followed in 1994, branded as Nick Alive! From October 1995 it shared space with Paramount Channel. When Sky launched in 1998, Nickelodeon was in the original channel line-up on Astra 2A, and the channel was aired for three more hours. However, analogue satellite services continued to shut down Nickelodeon at 7 p.m. each day until analogue satellite was discontinued in 2001. Later, additional channels were added such as Nick Jr. and a timeshift version.
Nickelodeon Hungary is a Hungarian channel that is aimed at children.
It was originally launched as a short block on August 1, 1998 on the youth entertainment channel M-Sat. On April 25, 1999 it had a 12 hour-block between 7AM and 7PM on M-Sat. After the channel closed on October 5, 1999, the block was so successful that MTV Networks Europe decided to make a 12-hour channel out of the block Nickelodeon Hungary started on October 6, 1999 in the place of formerly M-Sat. It aired a feed of Nickelodeon Russia from 2002 to 2010, when Nickelodeon Hungary could run without a feed again.
Nickelodeon Latin America is a cable and satellite television channel, counterpart of the American network Nickelodeon. It is oriented to the Spanish-speaking countries of Latin American and the Caribbean, mainly for children and teens. It is owned by MTV Networks Latin America. The channel was launched on December 20, 1996. It includes shows like Skimo and the hit teen drama Isa TKM and its successor Isa TK+.
The channel has a broadband channel called Nick Turbo (being the Latin American version of TurboNick).
Nickelodeon Latin America is divided into three feeds: North, Central and South. Brazil has its own dedicated Portuguese language channel, Nickelodeon Brasil.
The channel was launched on December 20, 1996 in Latin America as a cartoon-oriented channel, being the main competitor of Cartoon Network, which was launched three years before. In 1999, Nickelodeon launched its official website for the region, MundoNick.com. "Nick Radio" was also available, but eventually it was replaced by the Nick Jr. official site.
