Contacting Twitter about a deceased user or media concerning a deceased family member

In the event of the death of a Twitter user, we can work with a person authorized to act on the behalf of the estate or with a verified immediate family member of the deceased to have an account deactivated.

To request the removal of a deceased user's account, click here. After you submit your request, we will email you with instructions for providing more information, including information about the deceased, a copy of your ID, and copy of the deceased’s death certificate.

Please note: We are unable to provide account access to anyone regardless of his or her relationship to the deceased.

Removal of certain imagery

In order to respect the wishes of loved ones, Twitter will remove imagery of deceased individuals in certain circumstances.  Immediate family members and other authorized individuals may request the removal of images or video of deceased individuals, from when critical injury occurs to the moments before or after death, by sending a request to Twitter Inc. via our privacy form. When reviewing such media removal requests, Twitter considers public interest factors such as the newsworthiness of the content and may not be able to honor every request.
