Carmen Miranda, GCIH (Portuguese pronunciation: [ˈkaɾmẽȷ̃ miˈɾɐ̃dɐ], 9 February 1909 – 5 August 1955) was a Portuguese-born Braziliansamba singer, Broadway actress and Hollywood film star popular in the 1940s and 1950s. She was, by some accounts, the highest-earning woman in the United States and noted for her signature fruit hat outfit she wore in the 1943 movie The Gang's All Here. Though hailed as a talented performer, her movie roles in the United States soon became cartoonish and she grew to resent them. She is considered the precursor of Brazil's Tropicalismo.
Carmen Miranda was born Maria do Carmo Miranda da Cunha in Várzea da Ovelha e Aliviada, a village in the northern Portuguese municipality of Marco de Canaveses. She was the second daughter of José Maria Pinto da Cunha (17 February 1887 – 21 June 1938) and Maria Emília Miranda (10 March 1886 – Rio de Janeiro, 9 November 1971). In 1909 when she was 10-months old, her father emigrated alone to Brazil and settled in Rio de Janeiro, where he opened a barber shop. Her mother followed in 1910 with their daughters Olinda and Maria do Carmo. Maria do Carmo, later Carmen, never returned to Portugal, but retained her Portuguese nationality. In Brazil, her parents had four more children: Amaro (1911), Cecília (1913), Aurora (1915–2005) and Óscar (1916).

Plot: The Story of Brazilian Bombshell Carmen Miranda. An exciting dramatic musical about film legend/phenomena! At one point in her career, Carmen Miranda was the highest paid woman in the world! An 'immigrant makes good' before-her-time liberated woman - whose fall from grace was one of the most bizarre incidents in film history! In a matter of moments, Carmen Miranda went from the world's highest paid woman to an out of work Brazilian Bombshell, who was blackballed by Hollywood and Show Business in general. The morality of our society in the 1940's and 1950's, being what it was, could not handle her 'problem' -- one -- if it happened today -- or any other female star performer -- would guarantee to sell out her next concert tour! Carmen's struggle to live her life after the 'problem' became much more difficult due to the fact that the people of America looked upon her as immoral and dirty.

Plot: A true talent, up-and-comer Ariel Vromen brings to the screen a visually alluring and emotionally charged first feature. With a cast of gifted young actors, Vromen delves into the darker side of the party to reveal that life can change indefinitely when decisions are made with love and friendship on the line. Andrew, Melissa and Jonny are friends in the prime of their lives. But when the real life weight of family misfortune becomes too much for Andrew to bear, he makes a desperately naive decision. What is meant to be a weekend party across the border soon becomes a heartbreaking journey that tests the boundaries of companionship, romantic love and personal ethics. Beautifully composed shots and a stellar soundtrack complete this package, lending Vromen's dark yet moving coming-of-age story a hip edge and resonating style.

Amô, bobagem que a gente não explica,
Ai, ai,
Prova um bocadinho, oi,
Fica envenenado, oi,
E pro resto da vida,
É um tal de sofrê,
Oi, lara, oi, lerê.
Oi, Bahia, ai, ai,
Bahia que não me sai do pensamento,
Ai, ai,
Faço o meu lamento, oi,
Na desesperança, oi,
De encontrá p'resse mundo,
O amô que eu perdi na Bahia,
Vou Contá.
Na Baixa do Sapateiro,
Encontrei um dia,
A morena mais frajola da Bahia,
Pedi-lhe um beijo,
Não deu,
Um abraço,
Sorriu,
Pedi-lhe a mão,
Não quis dar,
Fugiu.
Bahia, terra da felicidade,
Morena,
Eu ando louco da saudade,
Meu Senhor do Bonfim,
Arranja outra morena,
Igualzinha pra mim.
