In a speech at Georgetown University, Kim urged developing countries, donors, and development partners to work together to support equitable and inclusive growth, especially in fragile and conflict-affected states, and to fight climate change.

The World Bank is a vital source of financial and technical assistance to developing countries around the world. Our mission is to fight poverty with passion and professionalism for lasting results and to help people help themselves and their environment by providing resources, sharing knowledge, building capacity and forging partnerships in the public and private sectors. We are not a bank in the common sense; we are made up of two unique development institutions owned by 187 member countries: the International Bank for Reconstruction and Development (IBRD) and the International Development Association (IDA). Each institution plays a different but collaborative role in advancing the vision of inclusive and sustainable globalization. The IBRD aims to reduce poverty in middle-income and cre...

As a prelude to the 2015 World Bank annual meeting, the president of the World Bank Group, Dr. Jim Yong Kim, will present new data from over a half-century of development practice on what works in reducing economic inequalities and boosting the incomes of the world’s poor. With USIP President Nancy Lindborg, President Kim also will examine how economic development can work in tandem with peacebuilding efforts to build more sustainably peaceful societies.
The World Bank has long been criticized by non-governmental organizations, such as the indigenous rights group Survival International, and academics, including its former Chief Economist Joseph Stiglitz, Henry Hazlitt and Ludwig Von Mises. Henry Hazlitt argued that the World Bank along with the monetary system it was designed within would promote world inflation and "a world in which international trade is State-dominated" when they were being advocated. Stiglitz argued that the so-called free market reform policies which the Bank advocates are often harmful to economic development if implemented badly, too quickly ("shock therapy"), in the wrong sequence or in weak, uncompetitive economies. One of the strongest criticisms of the World Bank has been the way in which it is governed. While ...
What are the key factors that impact project performance? • Which regions and GPs are performing better, and why? • What are the recent trends in WBG performance? • Are we checking the (right!) boxes when we integrate gender into WBG operations? And what implications will all of these have for the future? Find out the answers to these questions at the launch of the 2015 Results and Performance of the World Bank Group (RAP 2015) Report. The World Bank Group (WBG) is a family of five international organizations that make leveraged loans to poor countries. It is the largest and most famous development bank in the world and is an observer at the United Nations Development Group. The bank is based in Washington, D.C. and provided around $30 billion in loans and assistance to "developing" and transition countries in 2012. The bank's stated mission is to reduce poverty. The World Bank's (the IBRD and IDA's) activities are focused on developing countries, in fields such as human development (e.g. education, health), agriculture and rural development (e.g. irrigation and rural services), environmental protection (e.g. pollution reduction, establishing and enforcing regulations), infrastructure (e.g. roads, urban regeneration, and...
With Asia as its backdrop, this book critically investigates the particular role played by the World Bank Group (WBG) in both conceptualising and promoting new mining regimes tailored for resource-rich country clients. Building on case studies located in Laos, Mongolia and the Philippines, 'Regimes of Risk: The World Bank and the Transformation of Mining in Asia' details a particular politics of mining in the Global South characterised by the transplanting, hijacking and contesting of the WBG's mining agenda in national and local arenas. Importantly, the failings of this agenda over time have not proved terminal but rather have provided opportunities for paradigmatic renewal. As part of a broad regime of governance designed to attract foreign private sector investment by the WBG in the nam...

Third world is plagued by poverty and the world bank is the cause
An instrument of transnational companies to overule domestic laws
Serving merely as a weapon for american foreign policy leverage
Starvation is considered an effective repayment incentive
The initiating step in US planned destabilizaion Is extorting money by economic manipulation
With world bank interference development is prevented
Their actions differ greatly from the compassionate image that's presented
Restructuring the world ecomomy is the world bank and the IMF
Benefitting the richest countries while developing nations are bled to death
The third world is descended so deeply into debt that their economies can't function
The demand for outrageous interest force these countries to increase production
Ecuador is forced to porduce more oil to repay all it's debt
This strain upon the ecosystem's an environmental threat
Rainforests have been ravished for iron smelting i Brazil
Ten million people have been forced from the land the world bank steal
Structural adjustment programs have pushed Peru to poverty
While many African nations suffer from extreme austerity
Restructuring the world economy is the world bank and the IMF

The world's economists line their pockets with the regimes that they're creating
They're the power watchdog security guarding where first world interests lie
They slash and burn the rainforests or build another dam
They systematically drive the indigenous people off of their land
They've paved the way for industry to legally cease resources
By imposing the political policies their leashed tyrant enforces
Restructuring the world economy is the world bank and the IMF
