Political and media adviser to
Syrian President Bashar Al-Assad Bouthaina commented on
Turkey’s military response to
Syrian Kurdish militias during an interview in
Damascus on Thursday.
Shaaban highlighted that "
The People's
Protection Units (
YPG) are Syrian units, they are as a result Syrian,” adding that the
Syrian government is happy to work with them in cooperation with
Russia.
She went on to say that “Turkey is the one who is casting the light on the Kurdish question, making a big deal out of it, because it has a problem with this topic. But we have no problem with this topic at all.”
SOT,
Bouthaina Shaaban, political and media adviser to Syrian President
Bashar al-Assad (
English): "The People's Protection Units (YPG) are Syrian units, they are as a result Syrian. They liberate in cooperation with the
Syrian army, in cooperation with the
Russian aviation and with the help of the civil defence units. That is why we have no problem with that, what is important is the Syrian unity in land and between people. I think there is no problem here. Turkey is the one who is casting the light on the Kurdish question, making a big deal out of it, because it has a problem with this topic. But we have no problem with this topic at all. Those who are fighting are not only
Kurds, they are Kurds,
Arabs,
Assyrians, tribes, Syrian army, civil defence forces, and all the spectrums of the Syrian society are participating in this war against terrorism."
SOT, Bouthaina Shaaban, political and media adviser to Syrian President Bashar al-Assad (
English): "We chose the political solution, and we have been for it from the first moment, because all wars should end with political solutions. But we insist on removing terrorism from our home. These two things complement each other.
And I think that bringing out the two resolutions,
2253 and 2254, in a 24-period from each other is the best proof that they are connected, even though western countries and the UN do not recall the resolution 2253 anymore. This is a mistake, because eliminating terrorism is a basic rule for a successful political solution for
Syria and the region."
SOT, Bouthaina Shaaban, political and media adviser to Syrian President Bashar al-Assad (English): "The resolution
2254 talked about a Syrian-Syrian dialogue where all topics can be discussed without any preconditions. What happened is that the delegation that was formed by
Saudi Arabia and acts upon
Saudi orders, and has nothing to do with the
Syrian people, talks of humanitarian aid and ceasefire, because it does not want constructive dialogue. Also because it knows that it does not represent anyone in Syria. The situation has to go as follows: There must be a Syrian-Syrian dialogue, and through it all topics can be laid on the table and discussed. On top of them the humanitarian aid and a ceasefire, although not a ceasefire, but a cessation of violent actions, as a ceasefire is usually between two armies or two countries. What applies here is the cessation of violent action.
What the Saudis and their representatives did, is that they started to talk about humanitarian aid and cessation of violent action before the talks started. And this is not what the resolution 2254 stated."
