Billy Murray (April 18, 1892- March 4, 1926) was an American boxer in the early 20th century.
Although initially starting off rather weak, with 3 wins, 2 losses, and a draw, Murray had an incredible win streak afterwards. He was undefeated his next 49 fights, against boxers such as Anton LaGrave, Johnny McCarthy, Jimmy Clabby, and many others. However, he was defeated twice in a row by a boxer known as George Chip. He won 2 more consecutive fights, and then lost the next 9 fights in a row. He fought 24 more fights afterwords, bringing his record to 60 wins (45 by knockout), 16 losses, and 9 draws.

Charted at #1 in May 1906. The title on the recording is "The Grand Old Rag". Cohan had been inspired to write the song when he encountered a civil war veteran who was holding a tattered U.S. flag. He said to Cohan, "She's a grand old rag". The title was later changed to "You're a Grand Old Flag" after many people objected to the word "rag". From the musical, "George Washington, Jr.". Written by George M. Cohan.

Ada Jones (June 1,1873 - May 2,1922) was a popular singer who recorded from 1905 to the early 1920s. She was born in Lancashire, England but moved with her family to Philadelphia, Pennsylvania at the age of six in 1879. She started performing on stage, including juvenile roles in the 1880s. In 1893 or 1894, she recorded some musical performances for the North American Phonograph Co., but the demise of this company ended this recording career and it was not until 1905 that she returned to recording, after a few years doing performances at such locations as Huber's 14th Street Museum in New York City. She recorded several duets with Billy Murray and Len Spencer. She sang in a range of accents and dialects. ------------------------ William Thomas "Billy" Murray (May 25,1877 - Aug.17,1954) ...
"K-K-K-Katy" was a popular World War I-era song written by Geoffrey O'Hara in 1917 and published in 1918. It was recorded by Billy Murray (1877-1954) also in 1918.
Actor Billy Murray wished Chelmsford Magistrates' Court a merry Christmas today after he was acquitted of driving offences. The performer, best-know for his roles in The Bill and EastEnders, was cleared of speeding when magistrates accepted his explanation that he was not the driver of a Ford Transit Van caught at 51mph in a 40mph zone. However, it remains a mystery who was driving the car when it was caught on camera in Laindon, Essex, this February. Mr Murray, 71, explained to the court in Essex that he had left the car parked by some garages while he was working away from home. He admitted that he was in the habit of leaving a key inside the van underneath a floor mat so that other people could move it. During the hearing he told magistrates that he could not admit speeding as it ...
William Thomas "Billy" Murray (1877 - 1954) was one of the most popular singers in the United States in the early decades of the 20th century. Born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, the son of immigrants from Ireland. He became fascinated with the theater and joined a traveling vaudeville troupe in 1893. He also performed in minstrel shows early in his career. He made his first recordings for a local phonograph cylinder company in San Francisco, California in 1897. He started recording regularly in the New York City and New Jersey area in 1903, when the nation's major record companies as well as the Tin Pan Alley music industry were concentrated there. He was probably the best selling recording artist of the first quarter of the 20th century. In 1906 he started performing in duets with Ada J...

Adventures of Huckleberry Finn (or, in more recent editions, The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn) is a novel by Mark Twain, first published in England in December 1884 and in the United States in February 1885. Commonly named among the Great American Novels, the work is among the first in major American literature to be written throughout in vernacular English, characterized by local color regionalism. It is told in the first person by Huckleberry "Huck" Finn, a friend of Tom Sawyer and narrator of two other Twain novels (Tom Sawyer Abroad and Tom Sawyer, Detective). It is a direct sequel to The Adventures of Tom Sawyer. The book is noted for its colorful description of people and places along the Mississippi River. Satirizing a Southern antebellum society that had ceased to exist about tw...

You can bring Pearl, she's a darn nice girl,
But don't bring Lulu!
You can bring Rose with the turned-up nose,
But don't bring Lulu!
Lulu always wants to do
What the folks don't want her to.
When she struts her stuff around,
London bridge is falling down!
You can bring cake or a porterhouse steak,
But don't bring Lulu!
Lulu gets blue and goes cuckoo
Like the clock upon the shelf.
She's the kind of smarty breaks up every party,
Hullabaloo loo, don't bring Lulu,
I'll bring her myself!
Last week we had a party, a real high-toned affair,
And then along came Lulu, wild as any Zulu.
She started in to Charleston, and how the boys did stare,
But when she did the hula-hula, then she got the air.
You can bring Flo, her dad's got dough
But don't bring Lulu!
You can bring Lil, she's an awful pill,
But don't bring Lulu!
Lulu has the reddest hair, auburn here and henna there.
How can we boys keep our heads?
Bulls go wild when they see red.
You can bring peas and crackers and cheese,
But don't bring Lulu!
When she gets sore and slams the door
The plates fly off the shelf.
She can make a feller wild on sarsaperilla.
Hullabaloo loo, don't bring Lulu,
She'll come here herself.
You can bring ham and crackers and jam
But don't bring Lulu!
Lulu goes wild, and when she's wild
She climbs upon the shelf!
She can make a pastor be a dancing master.
Hullabaloo-loo, don't bring Lulu,
I'll bring her myself!
