Georges Vanier Secondary School (also named as Georges Vanier SS, GVSS, Georges Vanier or Vanier) and Woodbine Junior High School (shortly called as Woodbine JHS, WJHS and Woodbine) are two schools consisted of a junior high school (Grades 7 to 9) and high school (Grades 10 to 12) located in North York district of Toronto, Ontario. Owned and Operated by the North York Board of Education (which is now merged into the Toronto District School Board), the school was named after Canada’s first French-Canadian Governor General, Georges Vanier. Attached to the Vanier-Woodbine campus is the North-East Year Round Alternative Centre.
Opened in 1966, Georges Vanier was selected by the Canadian Education Association as one of 21 exemplary schools across Canada. The school offers specialized programs such as msc2.ca, Program2 Art, "One World Youth Arts Project" program, BSc@Van, the Aerospace and "Focus on Information Technology" program, in addition to offering an Advanced Placement program and a Centennial College Partnership program. These programs give students the opportunity to earn nationally recognized certifications.
A secondary school is a school which provides secondary education, between the ages of 11 and 16 or 11 and 19, after primary school and before higher education.
In Nigeria, secondary school is for children from ages 10 to 15. Secondary education is divided into two parts: the junior and senior secondary education. The junior secondary education which takes in ages 10-12 is pre-vocational and academic in scope. Most courses are compulsory, except religious and language courses (electives). For students to continue into senior secondary school, they have to make passing grades in the Junior Secondary School Certificate Examinations. In senior secondary school which now consists of ages 13-15, students are allowed to choose which areas to concentrate on, be it science, arts, commerce, or technical studies. All students have to sit for a Senior Secondary Certificate Examination (SSCE), of which there are two: the West African Senior Secondary Certificate Examination (WASSCE) and the National Examination Council SSCE. Students must pass this before being admitted into any university.
Major-General Georges-Philéas Vanier PC DSO MC CD (23 April 1888 – 5 March 1967) was a Canadian soldier and diplomat who served as Governor General of Canada, the 19th since Canadian Confederation.
Vanier was born and educated in Quebec and, after earning a university degree in law, served in the Canadian army during the First World War; on the European battlefields he lost a limb, but was commended for his actions with a number of decorations from the King. Subsequently, Vanier returned to Canada and remained in the military until the early 1930s, when he was posted to diplomatic missions in Europe. With the outbreak of the Second World War, Vanier once again became active in the military, commanding troops on the home front, until the cessation of hostilities in 1945, whereupon he returned to diplomatic circles. He was in 1959 appointed as governor general by Queen Elizabeth II, on the recommendation of Prime Minister of Canada John Diefenbaker, to replace Vincent Massey as viceroy, and he occupied the post until his death in 1967. Vanier proved to be a popular governor general, with his war record earning respect from the majority of Canadians; though, as a Quebecer, he was met with hostility by Quebec separatists.

During this recession year I have curtailed my international travel assignments and decided to ramp up my coverage of local destinations instead. The concept of staycations definitely has its merits and I have been checking out local happenings in Toronto and neat places in Ontario when time has allowed. I have been realizing that my immediate surroundings offer plenty of excellent travel and entertainment opportunities. So on Sunday, September 13, 2009 I packed two of my friends into my car and we went for a little Ontario driving tour. Heading west from Toronto we made stops at several picturesque spots along Lake Ontario, including Port Credit in Mississauga, as well as Old Oakville and Bronte in Oakville, one of Canadas most affluent cities. From here we continued on scenic Lakeshor...
