Jessica Dragonette (February 14, 1900 – March 18, 1980) was a singer who became popular on American radio and was active in the World War II effort.
Dragonette was born around 1900 in India. There is some uncertainty as to the exact date of birth; her birth records were reportedly destroyed in a fire and she was not forthcoming regarding her age. The Social Security Death Index cites 1900 as her year of birth. An orphan, she was raised in a Catholic convent school, Georgian Court College, in Lakewood, New Jersey, where she graduated in 1923, according to the list of the college's alumni.
She began singing on radio in 1926, and during her 22-year radio career she helped to popularize operettas and semi-classical music. An admiring press dubbed her the "Princess of Song", a nickname she later would use to publicize concert events. She was the star of the Philco Hour on NBC from 1927-30 (Dunning, p. 543). She became the star of the Cities Service Concerts program, which she joined in 1930. By 1935, a listeners' poll voted her radio's most popular female vocalist. (Fraser, B15) Dragonette sang in a segment of the film The Big Broadcast of 1936, on the condition that she have authority over the final cut on her performance. In the end she chose to have her part removed. In 1939, she provided the singing voice of "Princess Glory" in the full color animated motion picture Gulliver's Travels.
Travels into Several Remote Nations of the World. In Four Parts. By Lemuel Gulliver, First a Surgeon, and then a Captain of Several Ships, commonly known as Gulliver's Travels (1726, amended 1735), is a prose satire by Irish writer and clergyman Jonathan Swift, that is both a satire on human nature and a parody of the "travellers' tales" literary subgenre. It is Swift's best known full-length work, and a classic of English literature.
The book became popular as soon as it was published. John Gay wrote in a 1726 letter to Swift that "It is universally read, from the cabinet council to the nursery." Since then, it has never been out of print.

Lanny Ross (January 19, 1906 - April 25, 1988) was an American singer, pianist and songwriter.
Lancelot Patrick Ross was born in Seattle, Washington. His parents were Douglas and Winifred Ross, both natives of England. He graduated from Taft School in 1924, where he captained the track team and led the Glee Club and Yale University in 1928, where he blossomed forth as one of the nation's foremost intercollegiate track performers, as well as soloist with the famous Yale Glee Club, and he was a member of Zeta Psi and Skull and Bones. Additionally, in 1931 he earned a law degree from Columbia Law School., earning the wherewithal by making radio appearances. He also studied classical vocal technique at the Juilliard School of Music with Anna E. Schoen-René.
Lanny Ross made his theatrical bow at the age of 2. By the time he was 5, he had already put in a hitch with a professional Shakespearean company (Ben Greet's) and was something of a veteran. During his primary education in a Canadian convent and various Seattle and New York schools, young Ross confined his appearances to choir work, including term as head monitor at the Cathedral of St. John the Divine, NY. His career began in radio in 1928 and included a five-year run with Annette Hanshaw on the Maxwell House Show Boat program. His recording career began in 1929. He did so well on the radio that he gave up the legal profession and set forth on a singing career. Ross went on to success in vaudeville, night clubs and films. He served in the U.S. Army in World War II, achieving the rank of Major. During the war, he was called upon to sing the Oscar-nominated ballad, "We Musn't Say Goodbye," for the 1943 motion picture, "Stage Door Canteen." The film also received an Oscar nomination for best musical score that year.
Dragonette is a Canadian electronic music band from Toronto, Ontario, formed in 2005. The band consists of singer-songwriter Martina Sorbara, bassist and producer Dan Kurtz (also in The New Deal), and drummer Joel Stouffer.
Dragonette released a self-titled EP in 2005 before being signed to Mercury Records and relocating to London, where they recorded and released their debut studio album, Galore, in August 2007 to moderate critical appreciation. A second studio album, Fixin to Thrill, was released in September 2009. The group's third studio album, Bodyparts, was released in September 2012.
Sorbara and Kurtz met at a Canadian music festival and formed a duo named The Fuzz, making music together in their basement recording studio for fun. The duo formed Dragonette after these initial recordings, and supported New Order on only their second live performance. In 2005, the band released the six-track Dragonette EP, prior to signing a record deal with UK record label Mercury Records.
