Design science research is a set of analytical techniques and perspectives for performing research in Information Systems (IS).
Design science research involves the design of novel or innovative artifacts and the analysis of the use and/or performance of such artifacts to improve and understand the behavior of aspects of Information Systems. In design science research, as opposed to explanatory science research, academic research objectives are of a more pragmatic nature. Research in these disciplines can be seen as a quest for understanding and improving human performance.
There are two similar yet orthogonal essays groups addressing the subject of design science research, the first is of Professor Joan Ernst van Aken and the second is of professor Alan R. Hevner.
According to Van Aken, the main goal of design science research is to develop knowledge that the professionals of the discipline in question can use to design solutions for their field problems. This mission can be compared to the one of the ‘explanatory sciences’, like the natural sciences and sociology, which is to develop knowledge to describe, explain and predict. Hevner states that the main purpose of design science research is achieving knowledge and understanding of a problem domain by building and application of a designed artifact.
Function may refer to:
Form is the shape, visual appearance, constitution or configuration of an object. In a wider sense, the form is the way something is or happens.
Form may also refer to the following:
Crash Course (also known as Driving Academy) is a 1988 made for television teen film directed by Oz Scott.
Crash Course centers on a group of high schoolers in a driver’s education class; many for the second or third time. The recently divorced teacher, super-passive Larry Pearl, is on thin ice with the football fanatic principal, Principal Paulson, who is being pressured by the district superintendent to raise driver’s education completion rates or lose his coveted football program. With this in mind, Principal Paulson and his assistant, with a secret desire for his job, Abner Frasier, hire an outside driver’s education instructor with a very tough reputation, Edna Savage, aka E.W. Savage, who quickly takes control of the class.
The plot focuses mostly on the students and their interactions with their teachers and each other. In the beginning, Rico is the loner with just a few friends, Chadley is the bookish nerd with few friends who longs to be cool and also longs to be a part of Vanessa’s life who is the young, friendly and attractive girl who had to fake her mother’s signature on her driver’s education permission slip. Kichi is the hip-hop Asian kid who often raps what he has to say and constantly flirts with Maria, the rich foreign girl who thinks that the right-of-way on the roadways always goes to (insert awesomely fake foreign Latino accent) “my father’s limo”. Finally you have stereotypical football meathead J.J., who needs to pass his English exam to keep his eligibility and constantly asks out and gets rejected by Alice, the tomboy whose father owns “Santini & Son” Concrete Company. Alice is portrayed as being the “son” her father wanted.
Over the course of the 20th century, the car rapidly developed from an expensive toy for the rich into the "awful" standard for passenger transport in most developed countries. In developing countries, the effects of the car have lagged, but are emulating the impacts of developed nations. The development of the car built upon the transport revolution started by railways, and like the railways, introduced sweeping changes in employment patterns, social interactions, infrastructure and goods distribution.
The effects of the car on everyday life have been a subject of controversy. While the introduction of the mass-produced car represented a revolution in mobility and convenience, the modern consequences of heavy automotive use contribute to the use of non-renewable fuels, a dramatic increase in the rate of accidental death, social isolation, the disconnection of community, the rise in obesity, the generation of air and noise pollution, urban sprawl, and urban decay.

Form and Function got together for its 1st huge meet last month in Warwick, NY. This was the second time of mine covering one of Form and Functions events and for their second show this wasn't that bad of a turn out. The quality of the cars was balanced between a few show cars and the rest your average enthusiast. The location itself was pretty rad as it was an runway that ended with a lake. All around it was a very chill day as the rain held off and the sun beat down on us. If you enjoyed this video please make sure to share it on Facebook and with your friends! What makes a great design? The perfect intersection between form and function? Historically, the role of the designer has been to solve a problem. But a husband and wife team working today are challenging preconceptions about the designer's traditional function. Anthony Dunne is professor and head of the Design Interactions programme at the Royal College of Art. Fiona Raby is professor of industrial design at the University of Applied Arts in Vienna and reader in Design Interactions at the RCA. Together, they are world leaders in an alternative design movement which crosses the boundaries between sociology, architecture, science and politics, often asking more questions than it answers. Anthony Dunne described this movement in his 1999 book, Hertzian Tales, as 'critical design'. Challen...
Ever heard the phrase form fits function? It's when the shape of something is designed for the job it is supposed to do. When applied to sea creatures it means their body parts are a good match for their role in the animal's survival.
