The difference between unibody and body-on-frame vehicles is fairly straight forward. Unibody vehicles have the chassis and body of the car together. A body on frame vehicle has a frame which the vehicle stresses pass through, and the body of the car rests on top of this. Unibodies are more rigid due to the forces spreading over the entire vehicle, and because of this can also use less material and are lighter. This means better fuel economy, handling, acceleration and deceleration. Body on frame vehicles allow for better NVH, as the body can be isolated separately from the frame. They are also modular, allowing for various bodies to use the same frame.

Here we are with another Real Video, the Real Review featuring the 2013 Toyota 4Runner Limited Four-Wheel Drive (4WD). There has been a lot of talk about the 4Runner, especially with the release of the new 2014 model. We will be reviewing the 2014 shortly here at Real Auto Reports, so in this video we focus on the detailed difference between the 2013 and the 2014 with some commentary on the body-on-frame aspect.

Body-on-frame is an automobile construction method. Mounting a separate body to a rigid frame that supports the drivetrain was the original method of building automobiles, and its use continues to this day. The original frames were made of wood (commonly ash), but steel ladder frames became common in the 1930s. It is technically not comparable to newer monocoque designs, and almost no modern vehicle uses it (other than trucks).
In the USA the frequent changes in automobile design made it necessary to use a ladder frame rather than monocoque to make it possible to change the design without having to change the chassis, allowing frequent changes and improvements to the car's bodywork and interior (where they were most noticeable to customers) while leaving the chassis and driveline unchanged, and thus keeping cost down and design time short. It was also easy to use the same chassis and driveline for several very different cars. Especially in the days before computer-aided design, this was a big advantage.

Here we are with another Real Video, the Real Review featuring the 2013 Toyota 4Runner Limited Four-Wheel Drive (4WD). There has been a lot of talk about the 4Runner, especially with the release of the new 2014 model. We will be reviewing the 2014 shortly here at Real Auto Reports, so in this video we focus on the detailed difference between the 2013 and the 2014 with some commentary on the body-on-frame aspect.

Whatever it was, the Patrol remained a very large car – 5,16 meters long, 1,99 meters wide and 1.94 meters in height. It was built on a platform with an independent spring suspension on all wheels and, of course, equipped with all-wheel drive to overcome very difficult terrain. And, by default, the Patrol car is rear-wheel drive and the front axle is connected as needed with the help of electronically controlled multi-plate clutch that distributes the torque is either at its discretion or at a fixed ratio of 50:50. There is also a reduced number of transfers, and the ability to lock the rear transverse differential.
Patrol even in the base set is very generous on all sorts of systems. For example, here you can find audio system with 13 speakers, tri-zone climate control, hydraulic system of restriction of fluctuations of a body and a locking rear differential, the system of assistance when Parking. In addition, the owners of the SUV you can count on adaptive cruise control, system of tracking the trajectory and distance (with auto brake).
Under the hood Nissan Patrol installed a 5.6-liter V8 (405 HP of power and 560 Nm of torque) with direct injection, variable valve timing and the degree of opening of the valves. Moreover, the systems to disable parts of the cylinders at low loads the motor is no more. The engine is paired with 7-speed automatic transmission. In the end, according to the manufacturer, from zero to 100 km/h-2700-kilogram SUV accelerated for 6.6 seconds.

Installing Ford Fox Body Frame Connectors (Conclusion) -EricTheCarGuy
In this episode of the #FairmontProject I wrap up the frame connectors. Last time I didn't complete the work because I wanted to come up with a solution for the shorter Mustang frame connectors. My Fairmont is about 4" longer than a Mustang. My solution was to add some home made extensions to the existing frame connectors. These extensions didn't do much for the sag I get in the body when I put the car on the lit, but it did provide some piece of mind as well as more rigidity to the rear chassis. Now that this work is complete, it's time to turn my attention back to the Mustang. I think the next step in the series is to remove the engine and transmission from that so I can go through them and get them ready for install into the Fairmont. I've started the modifications on the 1979 Ford Fairmont. Remember kids, many of the things I do to this car also apply to Mustangs from 1979-1992. So if you're looking for a walkthrough on installing frame connectors, this will work for you too. As it shows in the video my Fairmont is slightly longer than a Mustang. This created some challenges when installing the frame connectors. I'm still thinking about how I'm going to tackle that issue. For now the results are fantastic. The car is more sure footed and a LOT less noisy going over bumps. In my opinion, this is one of the best upgrades you can do to a Fox body vehicle, especially if it's a convertible. In this episode of the #FairmontProject I wrap up the frame connectors. Last time I didn't complete the work because I wanted to come up with a solution for the shorter Mustang frame connectors. My Fairmont is about 4" longer than a Mustang. My solution was to add some home made extensions to the existing frame connectors. These extensions didn't do much for the sag I get in the body when I put the car on the lit, but it did provide some piece of mind as well as more rigidity to the rear chassis.
Now that this work is complete, it's time to turn my attention back to the Mustang. I think the next step in the series is to remove the engine and transmission from that so I can go through them and get them ready for install into the Fairmont.
For now the Fairmont is running and driving great. I'm going to keep driving it as much as I can till the swap is complete.

I've started the modifications on the 1979 Ford Fairmont. Remember kids, many of the things I do to this car also apply to Mustangs from 1979-1992. So if you're looking for a walkthrough on installing frame connectors, this will work for you too.
As it shows in the video my Fairmont is slightly longer than a Mustang. This created some challenges when installing the frame connectors. I'm still thinking about how I'm going to tackle that issue. For now the results are fantastic. The car is more sure footed and a LOT less noisy going over bumps. In my opinion, this is one of the best upgrades you can do to a Fox body vehicle, especially if it's a convertible.
I did run into some issues with the brackets. Not sure what that was about. Perhaps there was an issue with my Fairmont, or it could have been a manufacturing issue. So far it seems to have worked out.
Lastly, I would recommend using a stripper over a grinder for cleaning the metal. I’d also recommend a face shield as I was picking chucks of metal out of my face for a couple of days after this. Also my safety glasses didn’t catch everything and a couple of times I got junk in my eye.

The Ford Explorer is a sport utility vehicle produced by the American manufacturer Ford since 1990. The Ford Explorer went on to become one of the most popular sport utility vehicles on the road. The model years through 2010 were traditional body-on-frame, mid-size SUVs. For the 2011 model year, Ford moved the Explorer to a more modern unibody, full-size crossover SUV/crossover utility vehicle platform, the same Volvo-derived platform the Ford Flex and Ford Taurus use. It is slotted between the traditional body-on-frame, full-size Ford Expedition and the mid-size CUV Ford Edge. Although outwardly similar, the fifth generation Explorer, Ford Edge and Ford Escape do not share platforms. The fifth generation Explorer does, however, share platforms with the Ford Flex and Lincoln MKT.
The Explorer has also been involved in controversy, after a spate of fatal rollover accidents in the 1990s involving Explorers fitted with Firestone tires. Both two-door Explorer Sport and four-door models of Explorer have been sold. Part-time four-wheel drive is an available option, and since 1995 this has been a 'shift on the fly' system with full protection against being engaged at high speed. A specially modified Special Service Vehicle version is also available from Ford Fleet for law enforcement agencies, fire departments, and EMS agencies. Explorer was also the name of a trim package offered on the Ford F-Series trucks from 1968 to 1986. The 2011 Ford Explorer was named North American Truck of the Year.

It is slotted between the traditional body-on-frame, full-size Ford Expedition and the mid-size CUV Ford Edge. Although outwardly similar, the fifth generation Explorer, Ford Edge and Ford Escape do not share platforms. The fifth generation Explorer does, however, share platforms with the Ford Flex and Lincoln MKT.
The Explorer has also been involved in controversy, after a spate of fatal rollover accidents in the 1990s involving Explorers fitted with Firestone tires. Both two-door Explorer Sport and four-door models of Explorer have been sold. Part-time four-wheel drive is an available option, and since 1995 this has been a 'shift on the fly' system with full protection against being engaged at high speed. A specially modified Special Service Vehicle version is also available from Ford Fleet for law enforcement agencies, fire departments, and EMS agencies. Explorer was also the name of a trim package offered on the Ford F-Series trucks from 1968 to 1986. The 2011 Ford Explorer was named North American Truck of the Year.

A:Replacing the 'glass screen only' can a bit tricky. There are plenty of videos showing how, but the results are varied. Unless you use 'optical adhesive' and a vacuum chamber its not going to be a 100% repair. If you are happy to have an 'air gap' between the screens (which gives an 'oil slick' affect when you press down) then a glass only repair is fine.

This is how I removed the damaged screen from the metal frame. You could save time by using brute force but you might damage the frame or not be able to re use the black adhesive at the top

I've had a few people contact me about a new screen they bought online; if the silver touch keys are missing then you'll either have to ask for a replacement or try and move your old touch keys over to your new screen. I've noticed these eBay sellers are not showing a rear picture of the screen.

The fourth-generation Jeep Grand Cherokee went on sale in summer 2010 as a 2011 model.[13] It was unveiled at the 2009 New York Auto Show.[14] During development of the WK2 Grand Cherokee, it was used as one of the examples of future products by Chrysler management at the time to convince United States federal regulators in 2009 of Chrysler's future viability in requesting a federal loan, which culminated in the Chrysler Chapter 11 reorganization that same year.
The fourth-generation Grand Cherokee retains its classic Jeep styling combined with a modern and sleek body style. The interior features leather trim and real wood accents, plus Bluetooth and uConnect electronics options. The 2011 Grand Cherokee has won 30 awards for off-road capability, luxury, value, best-in-class, and safety, making it the most awarded SUV ever. Like the previous generations, the chassis is a steel unibody. Unlike previous models, the new WK2 features four-wheel independent suspension for better on-road handling. The Grand Cherokee (with the 2011 Durango) WK2 platform uses a derivative based on Mercedes-Benz's W166 series.

Fourth generation Jeep Grand Cherokee Overland (WK2; 2011–present)
The fourth-generation Jeep Grand Cherokee went on sale in summer 2010 as a 2011 model.[13] It was unveiled at the 2009 New York Auto Show.[14] During development of the WK2 Grand Cherokee, it was used as one of the examples of future products by Chrysler management at the time to convince United States federal regulators in 2009 of Chrysler's future viability in requesting a federal loan, which culminated in the Chrysler Chapter 11 reorganization that same year.
The fourth-generation Grand Cherokee retains its classic Jeep styling combined with a modern and sleek body style. The interior features leather trim and real wood accents, plus Bluetooth and uConnect electronics options. The 2011 Grand Cherokee has won 30 awards for off-road capability, luxury, value, best-in-class, and safety, making it the most awarded SUV ever. Among the awards are: Top Safety Pick for 2011 from the IIHS, listed as a Consumers Digest Best Buy for 2011, Safest SUV in America by MSN Autos, and Truck of the Year for 2011 by The Detroit News.[citation needed]

You know what a truck pull is, right? Well our tow test is way better: our track extends 150 feet, climbs 13 feet in elevation, and has a maximum angle of approximately 16 degrees. Each competitor’s rig is tethered to 5-ton 6x6 weighing in at over 36,000 pounds. Each competitor is allowed one pull, no time limit. This event grabs competitor’s full attention, because it’s the first event and has the potential to quickly weed out weak components.
Through the years, the Frame Twister has evolved, and for 2015 about half way into the course, competitors arrive at the infamous Squeeze Rock section facing boulders, the dogleg, and the dreaded log section. In case you’re wondering, the Frame Twister at Top Truck Challenge really has twisted vehicle frames over the years. It has also wasted driveshafts, destroyed tires, and thrashed suspensions. Each competitor is allowed 10 minutes to complete the Frame Twister course. Hey, you didn’t expect it to be a run-of-the-mill first day did you?
