The Bentley Continental GT is a stylish, luxury performance car that is designed to carry up to four people in supreme comfort at speeds of up to 200mph. Boasting sharper styling, and with a considerable weight saving, the second generation Bentley Continental GT has slightly better fuel consumption and lower emissions than the outgoing model. The luxury interior maintains a sporting theme combining hand-crafted wood, leather and aluminium. The GT comes with a choice of two engines, a tweaked version of the proven twin-turbo 6.0-litre W12 unit, which is available in the standard GT and the even more powerful GT Speed. Then there's a 4.0-litre, twin-turbo V8 that returns combined economy of 27mpg - 10mpg more than the W12. Driving all four wheels through a six or eight speed automatic gearbox, performance is very impressive. Competition comes in the form of Aston Martin's Virage and the Ferrari California.

Bentley launch the new Bentayga in style with a full event allowing me the opportunity to drive it off-road, on-road and in the sand dunes of Southern California.
Bentayga is already launching to fantastic success, with well over 5,000 deposits placed creating a build queue over a year for the new 608hp Twin-turbocharged W12 SUV. This first opportunity for me to jump behind the wheel allows me a chance to show you around the car in detail and share my experience at the wheel with you.
It is in every way a true Bentley, with the absolute best levels of quality materials, amazing silence in the cabin on road, and effortless power available with 900Nm of torque.
I will pre-empt the comments that will inevitably come in about this not being true off-roading, but I will remind you that this is a Bentley and the body panels don't come cheap! The point is what the car is capable of, not what a car built for the specific purpose of off-roading can achieve. The Bentayga mixes a blend of luxuriousness and road comfort, with capability in times of poor weather or snow, along with performance and dynamic capability.
In the next part we'll be taking Bentayga again on the road before we go to the track and catch a flight back to LA.

Bentley Motors Limited is a British manufacturer of automobiles founded on 18 January 1919 by Walter Owen Bentley known as W. O. Bentley or just "W O". Bentley had been previously known for his range of rotary aero-engines in World War I, the most famous being the Bentley BR1 as used in later versions of the Sopwith Camel. After the war, W. O. Bentley designed and made production cars that won the 24 hours of Le Mans in 1924 and following models which repeated those successes each June 1927, 1928, 1929 and 1930.
Purchased by Rolls-Royce in 1931, when production was moved from London to Derby and later to Crewe, this business has been owned by the Volkswagen Group of Germany since 1998. The business is still based in Crewe, Cheshire, England with their Central Production Facilities there.
Before World War I, W.O. Bentley had been in partnership with his brother H.M. Bentley selling French DFP cars, but he had always wanted to design and build his own range of cars bearing his name. In August 1919, Bentley Motors Ltd. was registered, and a chassis with dummy engine was exhibited at the London Motor Show in October of that year. An innovative 4 valves per cylinder engine designed by ex-Royal Flying Corps officer Clive Gallop was built and running by December, and orders were taken for deliveries starting in June 1920; however, development took longer than estimated, and the first cars were not ready until September 1921. Their durability earned widespread acclaim. Appearances were made in hill climbs and at Brooklands and a single entry in the 1922 Indianapolis 500 mile race driven by Douglas Hawkes finished at an average speed in excess of 80 miles an hour.

This first opportunity for me to jump behind the wheel allows me a chance to show you around the car in detail and share my experience at the wheel with you. I will pre-empt the comments that will inevitably come in about this not being true off-roading, but I will remind you that this is a Bentley and the body panels don't come cheap! interior At first glance, the interior of the new Mulsanne is identical to the previous model. That’s because the design remained unchanged. Customers will get the same dashboard covered in acres of wood and leather, the four-spoke steering wheel with integrated controls, the wide center stack, and the two-tone door panels with upper wood sections. But, while Bentley didn’t meddle with the styling, it did create new appointments for the luxurious interior. New features include up to 13 hand-selected wood veneers, bright-polished stainless steel, and a unique glass switchgear. Customers will get the same dashboard covered in acres of wood and leather, the four-spoke steering wheel with integrated controls, the wide center stack, and the two-tone door panels with upper wood sections. But, while Bentley didn’t meddle with the styling, it did create new appointments for the luxurious interior. New features include up to 13 hand-selected wood veneers, bright-polished stainless steel, and a unique glass switchgear.
The comfortable seats can also be ordered in two new styles, fluted or quilted. Moreover, customers will be able to select between 24 hide colors and single or two-tone finishes.
More updates are evident in the tech department. The main highlight is the new infotainment system with updated navigation, connectivity, and audio system. The main eight-inch touchscreen is connected to a 60-gigabyte hard drive, while the front seats come with 10.2-inch Bentley Entertainment Tablets integrated into their backs. The Android devices feature 4G, WiFi, and Bluetooth and give users access to over a million Android apps, including Skype, Google Play and Spotify. The device has 32 gigabytes of on-board storage and can be used away from the car, in the office and at home. They can stream audio and even send new destinations to the car’s navigation system.
For the ultimate audio experience, the new Mulsanne can be specified with a Naim for Bentley premium sound system with 20 speakers, 20 channels, a 2,200-watt amplifier, and Super Tweeters. Judging by the specs, you can probably host a live concert in there, given you can fit the entire band.

Mulsanne Extended Wheelbase
Customers with a preference for being driven can opt for the Extended Wheelbase model, which has a 250 mm (9.8 inches) longer wheelbase to the benefit of rear-passenger legroom. In addition to the larger rear compartment, the Extended Wheelbase model also received airline-style leg rests that extend outward and pivot, giving passengers the choice between upright, relaxed, and reclined seating positions.
There’s also a bespoke console between the two rear seats, appointed in the finest handcrafted veneer, metal, glass, and leather. The console houses USB ports, pen holders, cup holders, and a stowage area. Optionally, customers can have a deployable, folding table, electric curtains, and a large, tilting and sliding sunroof over the rear cabin.

Without initially understanding where the car would sit in the market, an opportunity to drive it clarified that, and with a thunderous soundtrack and sporty drive it's certainly something special!
