Matn (Arabic: قضاء المتن, translit: Qada' el Matn), sometimes spelled Metn, is a district (qadaa)(Caza) in the Mount Lebanon Governorate of Lebanon, east of the Lebanon's capital Beirut. The district capital is Jdeideh(followed to Jdeideh, Bouchrieh, El Sedd Municipality).
Matn is one of the most popular areas in Lebanon, with its rich scenery and its spoiling view of the Mediterranean. Matn;s population is almost entirely Christian with some Druze and Shias in the region
The Matn district is also popularly known as Northern Matn District (Arabic: قضاء المتن الشماليtranslit: Qada' el Matn ash Shimali) not to be confused with Southern Matn (Arabic: المتن الجنوبيtranslit: Al Matn al Janoubi) which is part of Baabda District and with Uppermost Matn (Arabic: المتن الأعلىtranslit: Al Matn al Aala) which is part of Aaley District
Ghassan Elias Rahbani (born in Antelias, Lebanon May 13, 1964) is a Lebanese producer, lyricist, composer, arranger, orchestra conductor, pianist, and singer. He is a member of the prominent Rahbani family well known for their musical contributions to Lebanese music through the decades including inspiring and nurturing songstress Fairuz whom Assi Rahbani would marry.
He was raised in a family of musicians, by his father Elias Rahbani. He started his involvement with music very early in his life and began compositions between the age of 7 and 10.
At the age of six he started his classical piano courses under the guidance of his teacher Mr. Agop Arslanian, followed by Solfege theory, both traditional and modern harmony, contre point, fugue, musical analysis, and orchestration.
At the age of 11, he sung along with his brother Jad Rahbani, famous long playing songs composed by their father "Elias Rahbani", containing 13 of what became famous kids songs on which many Lebanese in the 1970s grew up listening to such as, "Kellon Indoun Sayarat", "Toll' Eddaou al Wawi", "Ammy Bou Massoud"...etc.
Michel Naim Aoun (Arabic: ميشال عون) (born February 18, 1935) is a former Lebanese Army Commander and currently a Politician and leader of the Free Patriotic Movement.
From 22 September 1988 to 13 October 1990, he has served as Prime Minister of the legal one of two rival governments that contended for power. He declared "The Liberation War" against the Syrian Occupation on the 14th of March 1989. On the 13th of October 1990, the Syrian forces, invaded Beirut killing hundreds of unarmed soldiers and civilians. General Aoun went to the French embassy to seek intermediation for a ceasefire after the Syrian forces bombed the presidential palace in Baabda, and later was allowed to travel to France. He returned to Lebanon on May 7, 2005, eleven days after the withdrawal of Syrian troops. In 2006, as head of the Free Patriotic Movement (FPM), he signed a Memorandum of Understanding with Hezbollah. He visited Syria in 2009. Aoun is currently a Member of Parliament. He leads the "Free Patriotic Movement" party which has 27 representatives and is the second biggest bloc in the parliament.
