What is a Cuddle Party?
Cuddle Party is a
3.5 hour structured event. Where a trained facilitator leads attendees through an orientation workshop for getting acquainted, practicing clear communication and respectful boundary-setting skills. Then the social/cuddle free-style time unfolds - where one decides with whom and how to cuddle, including the option to not cuddle at all - to simply chit-chat, relax. It winds up with a positive closing circle for deepening connection and to visit with new friends.
Everyone goes at their own pace and for some participants this means enjoying socializing through conversation (cellphone-free) for 1-2 events before ready for a hug
or cuddle.
About the Organizer?
Karin Whittaker is an early childhood educator by profession. And now, Cuddle Party facilitator. And so, how did she get started on this Cuddle Party train? She was on a sabbatical from teaching
3-5 year olds. Her adult daughter was traveling overseas, and her boyfriend and she were on a break. Feeling more and more an inner uneasiness, she noticed her 'life spark' diminishing. Intuitively she knew that a lack of day-to-day, physical closeness was the common denominator.
Minus children, daughter, boyfriend -- was a hug-free, snuggle-free, massage-free -- desert. She sought out, asking peers for extended hug 'n' snuggle time and her calm 'n' bounce returned. She was thinking others too, may be caught in this 'affection void' needing regular, tangible touch when a friend mentioned a newscast on Cuddle Party. Vancouver CP being on hiatus at the time, She ventured, taking part in
Victoria Cuddle Party and was so elevated by the 'life-giving' experience that becoming CP
Certified and seeing Vancouver Cuddle Party up and running, once again, has been her mission. A growing Vancouver cuddle community is in our midst! She's here to support friendship, socializing and consistent touch where inconsistency exists. This is her passion and she happily opens her home -- full of pleasing colour, texture, sound. Mostly, She looks forward to meeting and hearing about how you too, happened on this amazing -- Cuddle Party train.
