A Clear Day For the Brooklyn Free Store!

IMG_4873

We’ve had some rain delays, but it looks like we finally have some clear skies for the Brooklyn Free Store today! Come to the Brooklyn Free Store this and each Friday (weather permitting) at the Brooklyn Free Store located at Lafayette & Marcy in BedStuy! We will be there from 12 noon ’til dusk if that comes first. We are located just one block from the Bedford-Nostrand G train stop.

Expect crates of books (pictured below are just some of the books left over from last week), records, food, household goods, bags and bags of used and new clothing, and more.

All are welcome to come and share what they have or just take what they’d like. There is no obligation to share or anything. These items and others are being shared in the spirit of community and mutual aid, please participate with that in mind and respect others.

The idea of the Free Store is simple: take whatever you can use, bring whatever you can give that someone else could use. It is a model for another way of living without money and without scarcity.

Grub: Community Dinner – This Sunday at Solar Yoga!

photo 1

Sunday March 20th – Grub: Community Dinner 7pm at Solar Yoga Ashram, 373 9th St. in Park Slope Brooklyn.

Watch First the Dishes Then the Revolution by Jeff Stark and get an idea about what Grub is.

We plan to be able to provide food for approximately 50 people, and we have to close the space at 10pm so don’t be too late! There will be plates for vegans and vegetarians alike. About 99% of the food we share is freegan, which means it is excess, ripe, nearly ripe or slightly damaged food that has been donated or recovered from the waste of grocery stores.

Most important of all – Grub is about building a stronger and more supportive community, so feel free to come early, get to know new friends and contribute. We need help gathering, cooking and preparing food for Grub (culinary skill not necessarily required). Volunteers are welcome to bring vegetarian (freegan and vegan is preferred) food and make their own dishes or help out with the preparation in general.

And as we’re sure you always already do, please go out of your way to talk to strangers and to welcome new people. That’s why we do Grub!

Come as early as 3:30pm if you would like to help us prepare the meal! All are asked to make a contribution, and part of that, we hope is monetary so that we can support the space.

RSVP to the Facebook event page, join the Grub Facebook group and follow us on twitter for  up to date info.

The Free Store is Postponed Due to Rain

chance of rain

The free store is rained out today. There will not be a regular free store next Friday, due to the holiday. Let us know if you want to help out with a New Years Day Free Store so we can decide if we will do one. <3
