Eric welcomed Donald Trump, who has been on the defensive this week after a series of gaffes and misstatements. "I had a very good meeting with the
Republican National Committee today," Trump revealed. "It was a unity meeting, we are leading by a lot and have millions of votes more than anyone else. I like discussing unity, my whole life has been about getting along with people." Trump also reversed his controversial suggestion that a woman should be punished for undergoing an abortion if the practice is ever made illegal. "This was a long, convoluted question, and if in fact abortion is outlawed the person performing the abortion is responsible for the act, not the woman.
I've had the same stance as
Ronald Reagan from the beginning."
Finally, Trump defended his implication that he would not rule out using nuclear weapons, even in
Europe. "The last person who wants to play the nuclear card is me, but you can never take any cards off the table. Why would we take it off the table?" Reaction to Trump Interview
Eric invited
Alice Stewart, a spokesperson for Ted Cruz, and
Trent Duffy, an aide to
John Kasich, to assess the interview with Donald Trump. "
Donald Trump's statements on abortion,"
Stewart declared, "show that he has absolutely no knowledge about what the pro-life issue is about. This is about more than just the unborn child, it's about the mother and having a culture of respect for women who are making this important decision. This is another example of Donald Trump's lack of respect for women." Duffy denounced Trump's recent comments on abortion and foreign policy. "He has unified the pro-life movement and the pro-choice movement, which rarely happens in
American politics. He wants a do-over on this one, and he now he's asking for a do-over on his statement that
NATO is something we should re-think. He is not ready to be the president of the
United States, he is not ready to be commander in chief, although he might be qualified to be the president of
Delta House. 75% of women view Donald Trump negatively, he will not be the nominee of the
Republican Party."
Opposition to Donald Trump overseas:-
Hillary Clinton and other
Democrats have implied that world leaders are wildly opposed to
Republican candidates Ted Cruz and Donald Trump. Eric analyzed that allegation with
Democratic strategist
Bernard Whitman. "This guy Trump is out of his mind,"
Whitman pronounced. "He goes on TV and says we should pull out of NATO, then he says we should let
South Korea and Japan have nuclear weapons. Then there is Ted Cruz, who wants to carpet bomb
ISIS, which hasn't had a battlefield victory in nine months. I don't think these guys have any idea what they're talking about, they are scaring the bejesus out of half the
American public and most people around the world." Eric cast some doubt on the notion that world leaders are in a panic: "
John Kerry said he's embarrassed by the GOP, then
Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton said they're getting calls from world leaders.
If I sound skeptical, it's because I am."
