Thasos
Thasos or Thassos (Greek: Θάσος) is a Greek island, geographically part of the North Aegean Sea, but administratively part of the Kavala regional unit. It is the northernmost Greek island, and 12th largest by area. Thasos is also the name of the largest town of the island (officially known as Limenas Thasou, "Port of Thasos"), situated at the northern side, opposite the mainland and about 10 kilometres (6 mi) from Keramoti. Thassos island is a known from the ancient times for its termae making it a climatic and balneoclimateric resort area.
Thasos' economy relies on timber (it is rich in forests), marble extraction, olive oil and honey. Tourism has also become important since the 1960s, although not to the level of other Greek islands.
History
Prehistory
Lying close to the coast of Eastern Macedonia, Thasos was inhabited from the Palaeolithic period onwards, but the earliest settlement to have been explored in detail is that at Limenaria, where remains from the Middle and Late Neolithic relate closely to those found at the mainland's Drama plain. In contrast, Early Bronze Age remains on the island align it with the Aegean culture of the Cyclades and Sporades, to the south; at Skala Sotiros for example, a small settlement was encircled by a strongly built defensive wall. Even earlier activity is demonstrated by the presence of large pieces of 'megalithic' anthropomorphic stelai built into these walls, which, so far, have no parallels in the Aegean area.

Thassos guide - Paradise Beach
Paradise Beach je jedna od najlepših peščanih plaža na ostrvu. Od magistrale do plaže vodi zemljani, prašnjavi put, sve do parkinga. Plaža je dosta duga nekoliko stotina metara, srednje širine, organizovana i čista. Prekrivena je najsitnijim peskom poput praha, i na obali i u vodi. Plićak se proteže sve do nekih 60-70 metara od obale. Plaža je raj za malu decu zbog dugog plićaka, tople vode i sitnog peska. Tokom avgusta, kada duvaju takozvani vetrovi meltemi, talasi znaju biti veći te u njima uživaju odrasli, ali i deca u plićaku. Treba biti obazriv čak i kada su talasi mali zbog udubljenja koje se stvaraju u pesku i na mestima gde je inače plitko. The place is not an attractive tourist destination, but it is developing in recent years. The place is not an attractive tourist destination, but it is developing in recent years. Now there are about 20 properties, a little sandy, organized, public beach, several taverns and fast food restaurants, several small supermarkets, shops and tavernas.
Everything is tailored to a small number of residents and tourists.
Right of the beach, is a small harbor for fishing boats and little boats and walkway.
Skala Sotiros is located at the foot of the village Sotiros, which has about 500 inhabitants, of which 99% foreigners (Germans, Dutch and English).
Skala Sotiros has no interesting content for children, there is no nightlife or entertainment. It is a place that is ideal for families looking for a real vacation, away from traffic, noise, hustle, yet not too far from the major places that you can go out in the evening.
