Earth tide or body tide is the sub-meter motion of the Earth surface at periods of about 12 hours and longer. The motion is caused by the gravity of the Moon and Sun. The largest body tide constituents are semidiurnal, but there are also significant diurnal, semi-annual, and fortnightly contributions. Though the gravitational forcing causing earth tides and ocean tides is the same, the responses are quite different.

The larger of the periodic gravitational forcings is from the Moon but that of the Sun is also important. The images here show lunar tidal forcing when the Moon appears directly over 30° N (or 30° S). This pattern remains fixed with the red area directed toward (or directly away from) the Moon. Red indicates upward pull, blue downward. If, for example the Moon is directly over 90° W (or 90° E), the center of the red areas are centered on the western northern hemisphere, on upper right. Red up, blue down. If for example the Moon is directly over 90° W (90° E), the center of the red area is 30° N, 90° W and 30° S, 90° E, and the center of the bluish band follows the great circle equidistant from those points. At 30° latitude a strong peak occurs once per lunar day, giving significant diurnal forcing at that latitude. Along the equator two equally sized peaks (and depressions) are equally sized, giving semi-diurnal forcing there.

Spiritual Beggars is a hard rock/stoner metal band from Halmstad, Sweden, formed by Michael Amott, who is known from Arch Enemy, Carcass and Carnage.

Spiritual Beggars was formed in 1993 by Michael Amott. The band was started as a side project after Amott left the British death metal band Carcass. Spiritual Beggars debuted with the self titled Spiritual Beggars in 1994, and have since released albums as Michael's schedule permits (who is also the founder and full time member of the melodic death metal band Arch Enemy), including 1996's Another Way to Shine, 1998's Mantra III, 2000's Ad Astra, 2002's "On Fire" and 2005's Demons.

The second album, Another Way To Shine (1996) was nominated for a Swedish Grammy.

The third album, Mantra III, saw the band adding Per Wiberg on keyboards. A tour of Europe with Fu Manchu along with festival appearances saw the band expanding their fan base.

The fourth album, Ad Astra, was released in 2000 to rave reviews and strong sales across Europe and in Japan. The band toured heavily on their Chasing The Stars tour that followed, supporting bands such as Iron Maiden, Monster Magnet, Queens Of The Stone Age, as well as playing festivals and their own headline tours in Europe and Japan.

Lee M. Ranaldo (born February 3, 1956) is an American singer, guitarist, writer, record producer, and visual artist, best known as a co-founder of the alternative rock band Sonic Youth. In 2004, Rolling Stone ranked Ranaldo and his Sonic Youth bandmate Thurston Moore the 33rd and 34th Greatest Guitarists of All Time, respectively.

Ranaldo was born in Glen Cove, Long Island, and graduated from Binghamton University. He has three sons, Cody, Sage and Frey, and is married to the experimental artist Leah Singer.

Ranaldo started his career in New York in several bands and joining the electric guitar orchestra of Glenn Branca. Among Ranaldo's solo records are Dirty Windows, a collection of spoken texts with music, Amarillo Ramp (For Robert Smithson), pieces for the guitar, and Scriptures of the Golden Eternity. His books include several with art or photography by Leah Singer, including Drift, Bookstore, Road Movies, and Moroccan Journal: Jajouka excerpt (from a full-length book of writings on Moroccan travels and music). Ranaldo has also published Jrnls80s (published by Soft Skull Press), as well as a book of poems, Lengths & Breaths, with photography by Cynthia Connolly. His most recent book of poetry, Against Refusing, was published by Water Row Press in April 2010 with cover artwork by Leah Singer. His visual+sound works have been shown at galleries and museums in Paris, Toronto, New York, London, Sydney, Los Angeles, Vienna, and elsewhere.

Franck Barre is a paralympic athlete from France competing mainly in category F44 long jump events.

Franck competed in Sydney in the 2000 Summer Paralympics. There he competed in the long jump and won the silver medal in the F44 class.
