Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation
Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) is a forum for 21 Pacific Rim member economies that promotes free trade throughout the Asia-Pacific region. It was established in 1989 in response to the growing interdependence of Asia-Pacific economies and the advent of regional trade blocs in other parts of the world; to fears that highly industrialised Japan (a member of G8) would come to dominate economic activity in the Asia-Pacific region; and to establish new markets for agricultural products and raw materials beyond Europe.
An annual APEC Economic Leaders' Meeting is attended by the heads of government of all APEC members except Taiwan (which is represented by a ministerial-level official under the name Chinese Taipei as economic leader). The location of the meeting rotates annually among the member economies, and a famous tradition, followed for most (but not all) summits, involves the attending leaders dressing in a national costume of the host country.

APEC Philippines 2015
APEC Philippines 2015 was the year-long hosting of Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) summit which concluded with the APEC Economic Leaders' Meeting held on 18–19 November 2015 in Pasay. It was the second time the Philippines hosted the summit, the first being the 1996 APEC summit.
The summit was held amid simmering tensions between China and several nations, including the Philippines, Japan, Vietnam and Malaysia because of the former's aggressive policy of claiming several uninhabited islands in the South China Sea. However, the Philippines decided to put aside the issue temporarily in keeping with its hosting duties. The summit was also held just days after the November 2015 Paris attacks which left 137 people dead, forcing the host country to enforce a lockdown of major streets near summit venues and hotels where the economic leaders were billeted, causing heavy traffic in major Metro Manila roads and inconvenience to commuters and motorists.
Agenda
The agenda of the Philippines' hosting of APEC 2015 is exemplified through its theme which focuses on promoting and advancing inclusive growth in the Asia-Pacific region. This goal on promoting inclusive growth is divided into three stages: domestic/national, regional, and macro levels. There are also four priority set for APEC 2015:

APEC Russia 2012
The APEC Russia 2012 (Russian: Саммит АТЭС Владивосток-2012) was the 24th annual gathering of APEC leaders. Leaders from the member economies met on Russky Island, off the coast of Vladivostok, Russia on September 9–10, 2012.
The summit on Russky Island saw the resort, catering and entertainment facilities, in addition to the renovation and upgrading of Vladivostok International Airport.
Two giant cable-stayed bridges were built in preparation for the summit, namely the Zolotoy Rog bridge over the Zolotoy Rog bay in the downtown, and Russky Island Bridge from mainland to Russky Island (which is the longest cable-stayed bridge in the world right now). The new campus of the Far Eastern Federal University was also completed on the island by 2012 to house the summit.
Preparation
At APEC Vietnam 2006 in Hanoi, Russia put forward a proposal to host the 2012 summit. Originally, Patrokl Bay (southern part of Vladivostok) was suggested as the site to hold the summit. The original plan was to build a palace to host the actual summit, and a number of five-star hotels for visitors. After the summit, the palace would be converted into a wedding palace, its conference centre into the Opera, and the hotels into residential buildings. The original estimate for development costs was in the excess of 382 billion rubles, and included money the city felt was necessary to bring infrastructure such as the sewage system, roads, bridges, and water pipes to up-to-date condition. German Gref, then-Minister of Economics and Trade, who visited Vladivostok in December 2006 to ascertain the city's readiness to hold the summit, promptly dismissed this plan, stating that the cost estimate was overblown and that he was not responsible for solving the city's problems, and further accused the Vladivostok administration of unprofessionalism.

President Rodrigo Roa Duterte joins his fellow Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) Leaders in the 27th APEC Economic Leaders’ Meeting (AELM) through virtual convention from Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia on November 20, 2020.
This year’s APEC centers on the theme, ‘Optimising Human Potential towards a Resilient Future of Shared Prosperity: Pivot. Prioritise. Progress’, and focuses on three (3) key areas -- improving the narrative of trade and investment; inclusive economic participation through digital economy and technology; and driving innovative sustainability.
Today’s Sessions highlight the topics on Mitigation of Health and Economic Impact of the Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19) Pandemic and the Key Elements of the APEC Putrajaya Vision 2040, which is set to succeed the Bogor Goals after it was adopted as one of APEC’s flagship initiatives in 1994.
The Closing Session marks the Adoption of the 2020 Kuala Lumpur Declaration and the Handover of Chairmanship from Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin of Malaysia to Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern of New Zealand. Next year’s APEC will be hosted by New Zealand with the same virtual format in light of the uncertainty brought about by the COVID-19 situation.
Hosted by Malaysia, this year’s AELM shifted to digital format after the World Health Organization (WHO) declared COVID-19 a pandemic.
The APEC began as an informal dialogue group in 1989 and has since become the premier forum for facilitating economic growth, cooperation, trade and investment in the Asia-Pacific region.
Prior to the Opening Session of the 27th AELM, President Duterte poses for the Leaders’ Family Photo at the Reception Hall in Malacañan Palace.

The Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation, or Apec, is an alliance between 21 economies that border the Pacific Ocean. Among Apec’s 21 members are some of the world’s largest economies like China, Japan and the US, but also much smaller ones like Myanmar, Papua New Guinea and Peru. Apec was first introduced in 1989, with the aim to support sustainable economic growth and prosperity in the Pacific Rim and every year since, the member economies meet during a summit. Apec summits tackle issues as varied as free trade, data privacy and climate change.
In 2018, Apec meets for the 30th time. The summit takes held in Port Moresby, Papua New Guinea from November 17-18

President Rodrigo Roa Duterte joins his fellow Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) Leaders in the 27th APEC Economic Leaders’ Meeting (AELM) through virtual convention from Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia on November 20, 2020.
This year’s APEC centers on the theme, ‘Optimising Human Potential towards a Resilient Future of Shared Prosperity: Pivot. Prioritise. Progress’, and focuses on three (3) key areas -- improving the narrative of trade and investment; inclusive economic participation through digital economy and technology; and driving innovative sustainability.
Today’s Sessions highlight the topics on Mitigation of Health and Economic Impact of the Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19) Pandemic and the Key Elements of the APEC Putrajaya Vision 2040, which is set to succeed the Bogor Goals after it was adopted as one of APEC’s flagship initiatives in 1994.
The Closing Session marks the Adoption of the 2020 Kuala Lumpur Declaration and the Handover of Chairmanship from Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin of Malaysia to Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern of New Zealand. Next year’s APEC will be hosted by New Zealand with the same virtual format in light of the uncertainty brought about by the COVID-19 situation.
Hosted by Malaysia, this year’s AELM shifted to digital format after the World Health Organization (WHO) declared COVID-19 a pandemic.
The APEC began as an informal dialogue group in 1989 and has since become the premier forum for facilitating economic growth, cooperation, trade and investment in the Asia-Pacific region.

Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation
Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) is a forum for 21 Pacific Rim member economies that promotes free trade throughout the Asia-Pacific region. It was established in 1989 in response to the growing interdependence of Asia-Pacific economies and the advent of regional trade blocs in other parts of the world; to fears that highly industrialised Japan (a member of G8) would come to dominate economic activity in the Asia-Pacific region; and to establish new markets for agricultural products and raw materials beyond Europe.
An annual APEC Economic Leaders' Meeting is attended by the heads of government of all APEC members except Taiwan (which is represented by a ministerial-level official under the name Chinese Taipei as economic leader). The location of the meeting rotates annually among the member economies, and a famous tradition, followed for most (but not all) summits, involves the attending leaders dressing in a national costume of the host country.
