BBC Test Card F (1978)
Test Card F is a test card that was created by the BBC and used on television in the United Kingdom and in countries elsewhere in the world for more than four decades. Like other test cards, it was usually shown while no programmes were being broadcast, but was the first to be transmitted in colour in the UK and the first to feature a person,[1] and has become an iconic British image and is regularly subject to parody. The central image on the card shows an eight-year-old girl, Carole Hersee, playing noughts and crosses with a clown doll Bubbles the Clown, surrounded by various greyscales and colour test signals needed to ensure a correct picture. It was first broadcast on 2nd July 1967 (the day after the first colour pictures appeared to the public on television) on BBC2. The card was developed by a BBC engineer, George Hersee, father of Carole Hersee, the girl in the central image. It was frequently broadcast during downtime on BBC1 until that channel went fully 24 hours in 1997, and on BBC Two until its downtime was replaced entirely by Pages from Ceefax in 1998, after which it was only seen during engineering work, and was last seen in this role in 1999. Test Card J and Test Card W, which are digitally enhanced and widescreen versions respectively, have replaced it, although they are very infrequently broadcast due to the fact that the BBC now broadcasts BBC News 24 and Ceefax pages on its terrestrial channels during downtime. This is Test Card F, but has also been ...

Testcard BBC 1 (Extended Authentic Music Version)
This video answers my critics even here on You Tube. My original "ENYA" effort was just a tester. This video is the BBC testcard with ORIGINAL big band style testcard music. I have even animated the BBC 1 station clock, just to give the whole thing a particularly true-to-life feel. So enjoy. Especially all you folks that really REALLY miss the testcards of yesteryear!. A BBC 2 version is now in the pipeline! Bet you can't wait!

Girl on the Testcard
BBC test cards are identified by a letter. The most famous British test card is Test Card F which incorporates a colour photograph of Carole Hersee (daughter of BBC engineer George Hersee) playing noughts and crosses with a doll, used on the BBC and ITV from the beginning of colour broadcasts in the late 1960s. Stockland Hill, Test Card 'C' - ITA Westward Television
The testcard you see is derived from a high resolution scan of an original Testcard 'C' as used in the early days of the Independent Television Authority (ITA). This is not an electronically created card, but the real thing.! I bought this card on eBay for just a little over £18.00 - A bargain.! Unfortunately, the video you see here does not allow you to view the card at its best. On a 405 lines TV, or even 625 lines for that matter, the testcard looks every bit as good as it would have when it was first broadcast, arguably better because the signal is fed directly to the TV and does not suffer any losses or interferance en-route from a transmitter. Note the lower left corner where a lighting error causes an uneven appearance in the grey background. On the original image, manufacturing marks and tiny blemishes are actually visible (this card was hand made by humans.!) although they are quite invisible when viewed on a 405 line TV screen. This is my first ever upload, so any criticisms will be taken onboard in readiness for the next time.. Though not widely known, the ITA used a version of 'C' from 1957 to 1964, which was a near indentical copy of the card used by the BBC. In the early days of 'C' there was no definitive model, although all versions were undoubtedly of the same card. The music that accompanies the video is typical of the period, and not necessarily that which would have been broadcast, although it could possibly have been. Unlike the BBC, the ITA did not ...

TESTCARD - RTE
Typical Irish Trade Test Transmission which for decades broadcast the famous Philips Test Card accompanied by traditional Irish folk music. RTE often did not open for business until early evening, so the test card featured very prominently on flickering Irish television screens of yesteryear! Features the music of Stockton's Wing. Enjoy!

BBC TEST CARD 4Oth ANNIVERSARY - CAROLE HERSEE INTERVIEW
It's 40 years since the 'girl & the clown' (Test Card F) first appeared on our screens. This is a series of captions which features an interview that was held with the 'star' of the Test Card, Carole Hersee, who was eight years old at the time. It all seems as though it was yesterday to all of us who remember, whether fondly or otherwise! In this video there is a picture of Carole as she is today - aged 48 (not to mention the clown 'Bubbles'). Naturally, I had to turn the modern-day Carole into a Test Card - complete with authentic Big Band Music. Hope you enjoy this latest effort...

NEX FS 100 Video Blog
This is a Worldwide Exclusive.
Not only did I contribute to the design of this camera but we managed to get a prototype and shoot a music video a few weeks ago. I believe we are the first independent team to shoot anything with the NEX FS100.
When I got the call we were told we could have the camera for a little over 24hrs.
We wanted to do more than just simply test it. But also we wanted to see what we could get out of the camera with stock lenses and recording internally.
So James from www.hangmanstudios.com teamed up with Den from www.fstopacademy.com and we pulled off this amazing shoot in 48hrs. Needless to say we didn't get much sleep but we valued the opportunity and wanted to shoot as much as we could in as many environments as we could.
We especially wanted to push the low light capability and use the in camera media. It shoots to SD cards, Sony Memory sticks and also has a 128GB FMU which is a solid state pack that integrates with the camera and will give up to 10 hrs record time at 24mb/s AVC HD.
We shot everything at 24mb/s AVC HD and ingested into FCP and transcoded to ProRes 422 using Log and transfer.
Shot over a 36 hr period in one weekend on one of only 2 prototype NEX FS 100 Cameras in the world.
We used 3 lenses:
A Sony Alpha 50mm f1.4 with alpha to emount adaptor
A E mount 16mm f2.8
The Stock lens 18-200 f3.5-5.6
For more information on the camera you can go here http://www.sony.co.uk/biz/content/id/1237480587665?en_GB=

Panasonic AG AF-100 01/02 evaluation footage by CREWS.TV
This is an independent evaluation by members of CREWS.TV of the Panasonic AG AF 101/102 micro 4/3 camera.
This test was done purely as an experiment to evaluate its performance as a Film making /Television production tool. We did not test it against charts or other cameras, we simply took it for a test drive in what we thought would be its optimal conditions. Our goal was not to find its faults or decide its place in the market nor was it to choose sides in the ever political best camera debates. We are cinematographers who love their craft and love the tools that give us this ability.
We only had the camera for a few hours so we decided to keep it simple.
The camera is capable of 35mm lenses, so we used a PL adapter and Zeiss Ultra Primes , choosing from our set as we saw fit on the day. We chose to record on the on-board SD cards with the AVCHD codec at 24 mbs but we also opted to use the HDSDI output, recording at 100 mbs on the AVC Intra HD codec to P2 cards. We opted to do this rather than recording to Nanoflash simply to keep it all Panasonic native.
We chose this work-flow as we simply wanted to see this camera in the very best light possible.
We also had a sound recordist on location who used a dual channel radio link to the camera via its standard XLR inputs.
This is a prototype, so there were some technical issues, Panasonic assured us that it would be rectified in the production model. Our test scenes had to be limited to indoor locations as a consequence. It was a temperature related issue.
This footage is edited from the 100mbs files, ingested and edited natively mainly because it was easy. This footage was not graded, altered or manipulated, straight off the files and exported to Vimeo for your viewing pleasure. In fact we even used the natural sound rather than using music so that you can evaluated the footage for yourself.

This short film, FEBRUARY, was shot on a pre-production unit of the new Canon EOS 550D / Rebel T2i. This is UNGRADED footage straight off the camera (converted to ProRes LT first for easy editing). I used a "flattened" picture style as outlined by Stu Maschwitz on his blog: http://prolost.com/blog/2009/8/3/flatten-your-5d.html
Shot in 1080p with 25fps, except for the slow-motion, which was shot in 720p with 60fps and later reconformed to 25fps.
EDIT:
I updated the blog with a rolling shutter test and a short raw footage clip (straight off the camera) for download.

Neutral Picture Profile
Rainy day again in the South of England, picked up my 550D from Park Cameras in Burgess hill. Put the Canon standard L zoom on, popped in a 4GB card (all I had, forgot it doesn't take CF cards). Battery only half charged in the car, grabbed a standard photo tripod and a umbrella and filmed for 40 mins in the poring rain, WB set on Auto, couldn't turn it off in the rain. Filmed in 1920x1080 25p and at the end crop mode for a few seconds & kept in native resolution (black bars all around).
All footage filmed at 800 or 1600 ISO. Lens UV guard causing a few internal reflections.
Very light camera and a pleasure to use. I look forward to using tomorrow in the daylight with faster lenses.
