I have been shooting/reviewing the new Samsung NX1 and was disappointed when nothing the NX1 recorded was actually watchable on my iMac. This is because the NX1 records in H.265 codec, the next generation of video codecs that is currently young and unsupported by both Apple and Adobe. Though this will change in the future, for now H.264 is still the standard.
So how do you convert? I struggled to find a good option that didn't cost a fortune, and discovered this free program that you should absolutely use if you plan to shoot with the NX1 prior to the H.265 support. It's quick, doesn't get crazy or flashy with its options, and best of all, it's free.

So I have been struggling with render settings in Sony Vegas for YouTube for quite some time now. I have tried MainConcept, Sony AVC and rendering uncompressed and using Handbrake to compress it into an .mp4. Nothing worked for me and then i tried this method and i love the way it looks, i honestly think so far these are the best HD render settings for YouTube! So here i'll list a few pros and cons of using the h264 codec to render your videos in Sony Vegas Pro 13.
Pros:
- 1080p, 720p both up to 60fps render options
- quality is great
- a lot of options within the codec
- the most popular format used universally (by YouTube as well)
- fairly easy to set up
- has not crashed Vegas yet (fingers crossed)
Cons:
- long render and processing times
- can only be rendered into an .avi container using this method
- file sizes can get monstrous with very high quality
- requires some experimenting to find the right combination of quality and file size that suits you.
All in all i think i will be using this method for 90% of the videos that we upload. If i find a better way i will be sure to post another tutorial, but for now, this is what makes me happy. For the record, this video was rendered at Medium Preset, at 16000 bitrate, all the same settings used in video, took about 35-40min to render, file size was 895MB.
P.S. I botched the outro sound :( it's very low and i feel dumb

I have been shooting/reviewing the new Samsung NX1 and was disappointed when nothing the NX1 recorded was actually watchable on my iMac. This is because the NX1 records in H.265 codec, the next generation of video codecs that is currently young and unsupported by both Apple and Adobe. Though this will change in the future, for now H.264 is still the standard.
So how do you convert? I struggled to find a good option that didn't cost a fortune, and discovered this free program that you should absolutely use if you plan to shoot with the NX1 prior to the H.265 support. It's quick, doesn't get crazy or flashy with its options, and best of all, it's free.

So I have been struggling with render settings in Sony Vegas for YouTube for quite some time now. I have tried MainConcept, Sony AVC and rendering uncompressed and using Handbrake to compress it into an .mp4. Nothing worked for me and then i tried this method and i love the way it looks, i honestly think so far these are the best HD render settings for YouTube! So here i'll list a few pros and cons of using the h264 codec to render your videos in Sony Vegas Pro 13.
Pros:
- 1080p, 720p both up to 60fps render options
- quality is great
- a lot of options within the codec
- the most popular format used universally (by YouTube as well)
- fairly easy to set up
- has not crashed Vegas yet (fingers crossed)
Cons:
- long render and processing times
- can only be rendered into an .avi container using this method
- file sizes can get monstrous with very high quality
- requires some experimenting to find the right combination of quality and file size that suits you.
All in all i think i will be using this method for 90% of the videos that we upload. If i find a better way i will be sure to post another tutorial, but for now, this is what makes me happy. For the record, this video was rendered at Medium Preset, at 16000 bitrate, all the same settings used in video, took about 35-40min to render, file size was 895MB.
P.S. I botched the outro sound :( it's very low and i feel dumb
