Douglas fir, with the scientific name Pseudotsuga menziesii, is an evergreen conifer species native to western North America.
The common name honors David Douglas, a Scottish botanist and collector who first reported the extraordinary nature and potential of the species. The common name is misleading since it is not a true fir, i.e., not a member of the genus Abies. For this reason the name is often written as Douglas-fir (a name also used for the genus Pseudotsuga as a whole).
The specific epithet, menziesii, is after Archibald Menzies, a Scottish physician and rival naturalist to David Douglas. Menzies first documented the tree on Vancouver Island in 1791. Colloquially, the species is also known simply as Doug-fir or as Douglas pine (although the latter common name may also refer to Pinus douglasiana).
One Coast Salish name for the tree, used in the Halkomelem language, is lá:yelhp.
One variety, coast Douglas fir (Pseudotsuga menziesii var. menziesii), grows in the coastal regions, from west-central British Columbia southward to central California. In Oregon and Washington, its range is continuous from the eastern edge of the Cascades west to the Pacific Coast Ranges and Pacific Ocean. In California, it is found in the Klamath and California Coast Ranges as far south as the Santa Lucia Range, with a small stand as far south as the Purisima Hills in Santa Barbara County. In the Sierra Nevada, it ranges as far south as the Yosemite region. It occurs from near sea level along the coast to 1,800 m (5,900 ft) above sea level in the California Mountains.

Undercover Lovers was a UK reality show presented by Narinder Kaur, a former Big Brother housemate.
The show featured eight participants (four male and four female), six of whom were contestants, the other two actors hired by the show's producers. The six contestants formed three couples with pre-existing relationships, and their task was to live together in a house for five days, concealing their relationship from the other contestants. The two actors were charged with trying to stir up trouble among the housemates. Each series would run over the course of a week (five days) and on the fifth each player would guess one potential couple from among the contestants. At stake was prize money of £5,000.
Disappointing ratings meant that the initial run of three five-part series were the only shows to be produced.
It ran on Trouble in 2002.
Albums of recorded music were developed in the early 20th century, first as books of individual 78rpm records, then from 1948 as vinyl LP records played at 33 1⁄3 rpm. Vinyl LPs are still issued, though in the 21st century albums sales have mostly focused on compact disc (CD) and MP3 formats. The audio cassette was a format used in the late 1970s through to the 1990s alongside vinyl.
An album may be recorded in a recording studio (fixed or mobile), in a concert venue, at home, in the field, or a mix of places. Recording may take a few hours to several years to complete, usually in several takes with different parts recorded separately, and then brought or "mixed" together. Recordings that are done in one take without overdubbing are termed "live", even when done in a studio. Studios are built to absorb sound, eliminating reverberation, so as to assist in mixing different takes; other locations, such as concert venues and some "live rooms", allow for reverberation, which creates a "live" sound. The majority of studio recordings contain an abundance of editing, sound effects, voice adjustments, etc. With modern recording technology, musicians can be recorded in separate rooms or at separate times while listening to the other parts using headphones; with each part recorded as a separate track.

As you can see the tree was located between 2 garages and with a far drop zone. I pruned each branch into 2-3 pieces in order to make them lighter. Branches were left on the garage roofs, without damaging the roofs, in order to absorb the impact of the tree trunk pieces. Once I couldn't throw the tree trunks to the desired drop zone, I started to rig them down. When I reached the point when the tree trunk would hit the garage roof with the rigging, I began to remove smaller tree sections and dropped them on the branches that I had left on the roof - to absorb the shock. At the end, all of the tree trunks pieces and branches were removed from the roof, down to the very tight place in between the two garages, which was full of branches place there to protect the walls. You can learn a lo...

The table base build. Here is the link to the table top build https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZPee7XMyhEA I managed to get my hands on some great reclaimed oregon timber that is about 50 yrs old from an old 'red bricker' knock down. I'm using it to make a huge 14 seat outdoor table. Many thanks to Ian who had the foresight to save this timber from going to scrap.
As a special Halloween treat for you, I've made an homage to the Black Lodge from David Lynch & Mark Frost's 'Twin Peaks'! There should be something for everyone here, from tapping on ceramic, pouring coffee, eating sounds (cherry pie, of course!), feather and pine sounds and more. This is a no talking video as I tried, but I just don't have the skills to talk backwards. I normally map out what sounds happen when, but this time around I'm going to leave you to fend for yourself in the red room. 'Twin Peaks' and the Black Lodge created by Mark Frost and David Lynch. Common triggers in this video: ceramic tapping, feather sounds, eating sounds, pouring, skin sounds, snapping, ear to ear, tapping, scratching -- I have a Tumblr that updates once a day with a soothing gif or a link to a ti...

In this episode of Plane Talk, I covered some important info on Safety and Support for the channel. The wood of the Day is "Pseudotsuga menziesii" commonly known as Douglas fir which is not even a Fir. The genus for Fir is: "Abies" and Douglas fir is: "Pseudotsuga (meaning "false hemlock"). Oh how they like to mess things up. I hope you found something helpful or at least entertaining. Remember to SUBSCRIBE and stay tuned for more as we continue on this adventure together. The ASM was designed with high production in mind, therefore it can maintain fast and consistent production throughout the entire day. It is difficult to say exactly how many board feet/cube you will mill in a day because of all the variables in tree type, set-up, log and board size. But as you will see here, it cuts timber fast. This particular setup has longer tracks (rails) of 11.4m (37 feet). As you will see in the video, there is no sag in tracks. Even when the mill is in the center of the tracks (where the most amount of sag would occur). Unlike other single beam manufacturers, our twin rail track system has supports and levelers to ensure sag is minimized or doesn't occur in the first place. That's just one of the Peterson advantages. For more information on the ASM, go check ou...
What's odd is that my tape is the same audio as the others, but lacks a label. May just be because the tree is deep-voiced?
