A hype man in hip hop music and rapping is a backup rapper who supports the primary rappers with exclamations and interjections, and who attempts to increase the audience's excitement with call-and-response chants.
Music writer Mickey Hess expands the term as follows: "a hype man is a figure who plays a central but supporting role within a group, making his or her own interventions, generally aimed at hyping up the crowd while also drawing attention to the words of the MC".
Discussing the role of the hype man in the book How to Rap, Royce da 5'9" describes how a hype man can contribute to a live performance: "a lot of my verses be so constant with the flow [that] I'd need somebody to help me."Lateef adds: "You're gonna have to have somebody say something somewhere to give you a breath... usually it's just a matter of getting somebody to hit some line or some word in a line - that's all you really need."
Early hip hop hype men included Cowboy and Creole of Grandmaster Flash and the Furious Five.Kool Moe Dee calls Creole “the original hype man”.
Hype may refer to:
In English, lower case man (pl. men) refers to an adult human male (the term boy is the usual term for a human male child or adolescent). Sometimes it is also used as an adjective to identify a set of male humans, regardless of age, as in phrases such as "men's rights". Although men typically have a male reproductive system, some intersex people with ambiguous genitals, and biologically female transgender people, may also be classified or self-identify as a "man".
The term manhood is used to refer to masculinity, the various qualities and characteristics attributed to men such as strength and male sexuality.
The English term "man" is derived from Old English mann. The Old English form had a default meaning of "adult male" (which was the exclusive meaning of "wer"), though it could signify a person of unspecified gender. The closely related "man" was used just as it is in Modern German to designate "one" (e.g., as in the saying Man muss mit den Wölfen heulen). The Old English form is derived from Proto-Germanic *mannaz, "persona", which is also the etonym of German Mann "man, husband" and man "one" (pronoun), Old Norse maðr, and Gothic manna. According to Tacitus, the mythological progenitor of the Germanic tribes was called Mannus. The Germanic form is in turn derived from the Proto-Indo-European root *manu-s "man, person", which is also the root of the Indian name Manu, mythological progenitor of the Hindus.

Plot
Balloon Goon is the personal portrait of Huffy, a rap artist and former aerosol abuser who discovered musical talent through his past addiction. Written, shot, edited, and delivered in just two days for The 48 Hour Film Project. All films in San Antonio were required to include three elements: a character named Ross Gillen, a furniture maker; a wrapped present as a prop; and the line 'I wouldn't count on it.'
Plot
Ade and Femi are expatriate Nigerian brothers. Ade is a successful banker in London, while Femi, once a political dissident in his home country, has had to escape to South Africa, live in refugee tenements and work menial jobs. The brothers have not only been physically estranged, their relationship is riddled with unspoken betrayal, guilt and scorn, which they have carried since the early days of their youth. During a short visit to Johannesburg, Ade discovers that his brother has been missing for a week. He sets out to investigate Femi's mysterious disappearance, reconstructing the pieces of his everyday life and the cruel hardships he endured just to survive. A riot erupts while Ade is visiting Femi's former boss in one of the townships. Ade is forced to take shelter with the employer. The mounting violence outside seeps into their exchanges and, eventually, prompts an explosion of revelation.
Plot
Meet the Meat Man, a simple vendor of carnivorous delights, and the small American town of meat eaters whose lives are rocked by the unexpected influx of vegetarian neighbors. Meat Man is a comic musical about the little nuances that keep us at odds and the chance for unexpected love.
Plot
The four years in the lives of some students in one class, from their entrance audition to their graduation, at New York City's High School for the Performing Arts (P.A.) is presented. Upon their entrance, the disparate group have a few things in common: they've got "big dreams" and they "want fame". Some have natural talent, some have had to obtain talent through hard work and training, and some show only some promise which the teachers hope will materialize into true talent. Some have full support from their parents, some have support from their parents but only for the parents' specific dreams, and some have little or no parental support whatsoever. Some have formal training, some not. Some are confident of what they can do, some believe they are limited and are at school to expand those talents, while others have no confidence whatsoever. And some are clear about where they want to "be" after graduation, while some want to explore whatever other opportunities may arise for them through this experience. During their four years, some will try to learn whatever they can from their teachers, while some will butt heads with the teachers over creative differences. Some will focus on what they entered the school for, while some will explore other hidden talents. Some will blossom, while some will stagnate. Unlike their counterparts from thirty years earlier, they are allowed to find work in the performing arts while at P.A. Most will find that there are many pitfalls in looking for work - whether it be hired work or having their own work produced - especially as they are inexperienced and may want fame at any cost. And some will not make it to the end of the four years for differing reasons. After graduation, some will move onto the next phase of their pursuit of fame, while others know this juncture is the end of the line for their dream. And some will have formed life long bonds with their friends from P.A., while others know they will lose touch with their colleagues out of circumstance.

Success is connecting with the world and making people feel. It's finding a way to bind together people who have nothing in common but a dream. It's falling asleep at night knowing you did the best job you could. Success is joy and freedom and friendship. And success is love.
Plot
It's been three weeks, two days, and 23 hours since Tris broke up with Nick. And now here she is at his gig, with a new guy. How could she have moved on so fast? This begins the night of Nick, Norah and Manhattan. The night of stripping nuns, hotel ice rooms, Russian food, psychotic ex-boyfriends and lovingly trashy ex-girlfriends. It's the night of Julio and Salvatore. The night of holding hands and writing songs and singing in the rain. It's a night they'll never forget.
