Hits (stylized as ...Hits), released in 1998 and again in 2008, following the success of "In the Air Tonight" on the Cadbury ad campaign, is the only greatest hits collection of Phil Collins studio recordings. The collection included fourteen Top 40 hits, including seven American number 1 songs, spanning from the albums Face Value (1981) through Dance into the Light (1996). One new Collins recording, a cover of Cyndi Lauper's "True Colors", also appeared on the collection and was a popular song on adult contemporary stations. ...Hits was also the first Phil Collins album to include four songs originally recorded for motion pictures (all of them U.S. number 1 hits) as well as his popular duet with Philip Bailey, "Easy Lover" (a UK number 1 hit).
In 1998, the album reached number 1 in the United Kingdom and number 18 in the United States. On 4 August 2008, it became the number 1 album on the New Zealand RIANZ album chart. In July 2012, the album re-entered the U.S. charts, reaching number 6 on the Billboard 200 when the album price was deeply discounted very briefly by Amazon.com. It has sold 3,429,000 in the US as of July 2012.
Hits is a compilation album by Australian recording artist Kylie Minogue. It was released solely in Japan, Hong Kong and the Philippines by EMI. The compilation contains songs from Light Years (2000), Fever (2001), Body Language (2003), Ultimate Kylie (2004), Showgirl Homecoming Live (2007), X (2007) and Aphrodite (2010), in addition to a remix of "Get Outta My Way" by Japanese electronic musician Yasutaka Nakata of capsule. A special edition was also released, including a bonus DVD of music videos.
Hits is a greatest hits collection by UK indie-pop band Pulp, released in November 2002.
As a collection, Hits only covers Pulp's singles from the early-90s when they started becoming popular, although the band had existed in one form or another since 1979. "Mis-Shapes", from Different Class, is the only hit single not included here, apparently because the band cannot stand the song. Two other singles, "Common People" and "Disco 2000", are presented in their Different Class album mixes rather than their more familiar (but since deleted) "hit" single versions. The compilation also includes non-single track "Underwear" and a new song "Last Day of the Miners' Strike".
The album was also released on DVD under the same title, featuring the band's promotional videos from the same era, a number of live performances, documentaries and short movies.
Note: "Underwear" appears on the UK version of the album only – however it is listed in error on the sleeve of the Canadian version.
This article features minor fictional characters who appear as guest stars on the cult television program Angel, ordered alphabetically. For the show's main characters, please see the article list of Angel characters.
Alonna Gunn (played by Michele Kelly) was the sister of Charles Gunn, and the most important person in his life. The siblings took care of each other while growing up in the "Badlands" (a fictional neighborhood in Los Angeles). Alonna was turned into a vampire in her first appearance ("War Zone"). Gunn eventually found Alonna as a vampire and confronted her, but was ultimately forced to stake her with Angel looking on. Alonna continued to appear in future episodes in Gunn's memory, flashbacks, and dreams. She was also mentioned in many episodes including "That Old Gang of Mine". It was the death of Alonna that made Gunn receptive to Angel's help and also caused him to drift away from his old crew, as he was tired of seeing his friends "picked off one by one".
Danaë is a circa 1623 oil on canvas painting by the Italian artist Orazio Gentileschi.
The painting was commissioned in 1621 by Giovanni Antonio Sauli who had invited Gentileschi to Genoa. Gentileschi's painted a number of works for Sauli besides the Danäe, including a Peninent Magdalen and a Lot and his Daughters. The painting draws together the Caravaggesque naturalism that influenced Gentileschi's earlier work with the Tuscan lyricism he later developed.
The subject of the painting is the ancient Greek myth of Danaë, which tells of how Zeus, king of the gods, visited Danaë in a shower of gold, from which union Perseus was born. The myth is regarded as a forerunner of the Christian belief in the Annunciation, the divine conception of Christ.
Orazio's daughter Artemisia Gentileschi later portrayed Danaë.
The painting was auctioned at Sotheby's New York on 28 January 2016. It was the most important Baroque painting to be offered for sale in decades, and purchased for US $30,500,000 by the Getty. It is to be hung alongside Gentileschi's Lot and his Daughters.
Danaë was the mother of Perseus in Greek mythology.
