Martin Charles Scorsese (
/skɔrˈsɛsɛ/; born November 17, 1942) is an American film director, screenwriter, producer, actor, and film historian. In 1990 he founded The Film Foundation, a non-profit organization dedicated to film preservation, and in 2007 he founded the World Cinema Foundation. He is a recipient of the AFI Life Achievement Award for his contributions to the cinema, and has won Academy Award, Palme d'Or, Emmys, Golden Globes, BAFTAs, and DGA Awards.
Scorsese's body of work addresses such themes as Italian American identity, Roman Catholic concepts of guilt and redemption,machismo, modern crime, and violence. Scorsese is hailed as one of the most significant and influential filmmakers of all time, directing landmark films such as Mean Streets (1973), Taxi Driver (1976), Raging Bull (1980), and Goodfellas (1990) – all of which he collaborated on with actor and close friend Robert De Niro. He won the Academy Award for Best Director for The Departed (2006), having been nominated a previous five times.

In special cases, these specialty schools have been able to get their accreditation and join the ranks of regular government-run schools.
Here is a list of ten schools that you won’t believe exist. From schools teaching the art of prostitution to schools that will let students pick whatever they want to do with their education, there is truly a place for everyone not matter what their learning style is. Barry Norman reflects : When Martin Scorsese directed ‘Cape Fear’ I spent months trying to arrange an interview with him. Eventually the dragon lady who guards him in his New York office gave the go-ahead.
“But you have one hour,” she said. “That’s all.”
I said an hour was fine and so we met. It was the easiest interview I’ve ever done. Scorsese is a true movie nut – you just wind him up, tell him you’re not remotely interested in his personal life, just his movies and let him go. That’s how it was that day. After a riveting hour the dragon lady looked in.
“Marty, there’s a call for you.”
“No, no,” he said, “it’s okay.”
She left and he and I talked on for the best part of another hour. But that’s Scorsese - when an American magazine once asked him to name the ten best, most influential films he had ever seen the reporter had to stop him when he got to 125. True story - I know because Scorsese told me so.
