In 1516, the Ottoman Empire invaded the Mamluk Sultanate of Egypt, conquering Syria, and incorporating it into its empire. The Ottoman system was not burdensome to Syrians because the Turks respected Arabic as the language of the Quran, and accepted the mantle of defenders of the faith. Damascus was made the major entrepot for Mecca, and as such it acquired a holy character to Muslims, because of the beneficial results of the countless pilgrims who passed through on the hajj, the pilgrimage to Mecca.
Ottoman administration followed a system that led to peaceful coexistence. Each ethno-religious minority – Arab Shia Muslim, Arab Sunni Muslim, Aramean-Syriac Orthodox, Greek Orthodox, Maronite Christians, Assyrian Christians, Armenians, Kurds and Jewish – constituted a millet. The religious heads of each community administered all personal status laws and performed certain civil functions as well. In 1831, Ibrahim Pasha of Egypt renounced his loyalty to the Empire and overran Ottoman Syria, capturing Damascus. His short-term rule over the domain attempted to change the demographics and social structure of the region: he brought thousands of Egyptian villagers to populate the plains of Southern Syria, rebuilt Jaffa and settled it with veteran Egyptian soldiers aiming to turn it into a regional capital, and he crushed peasant and Druze rebellions and deported non-loyal tribesmen. By 1840, however, he had to surrender the area back to the Ottomans.
From 1864, Tanzimat reforms were applied on Ottoman Syria, carving out the provinces (vilayets) of Aleppo, Zor, Beirut and Damascus Vilayet; Mutasarrifate of Mount Lebanon was created, as well, and soon after the Mutasarrifate of Jerusalem was given a separate status.
During World War I the Ottoman Empire entered the conflict on the side of Germany and the Austro-Hungarian Empire. It ultimately suffered defeat and loss of control of the entire Near East to the British Empire and French Empire. During the conflict, genocide against indigenous Christian peoples was carried out by the Ottomans and their allies in the form of the Armenian Genocide and Assyrian Genocide, of which Deir ez-Zor, in Ottoman Syria, was the final destination of these death marches. In the midst of World War I, two Allied diplomats (Frenchman François Georges-Picot and Briton Mark Sykes) secretly agreed on the post-war division of the Ottoman Empire into respective zones of influence in the Sykes-Picot Agreement of 1916. Initially, the two territories were separated by a border that ran in an almost straight line from Jordan to Iran. However, the discovery of oil in the region of Mosul just before the end of the war led to yet another negotiation with France in 1918 to cede this region to 'Zone B', or the British zone of influence. This border was later recognized internationally when Syria became a League of Nations mandate in 1920 and has not changed to date.

The French Campaign in Egypt and Syria (1798–1801) was Napoleon Bonaparte's campaign in the Orient, ostensibly to protect French trade interests, undermine Britain's access to India, and to establish scientific enterprise in the region. It was the primary purpose of the Mediterranean campaign of 1798, a series of naval engagements that included the capture of Malta.
Despite many decisive victories and an initially successful expedition into Syria, Napoleon and his Armée d'Orient were eventually forced to withdraw, after sowing political disharmony in France, conflict in Europe, and suffering the defeat of the supporting French fleet at the Battle of the Nile.
At the time of the expedition, the Directoire had assumed executive power in France. It would resort to the army to maintain order in the face of the Jacobin and royalist threats, and count in particular on general Bonaparte, already a successful commander, having led the Italian campaign.
In August 1797, Bonaparte proposed a military expedition to seize Egypt. In a letter to the Directoire, he suggested this would protect French trade interests, attack British commerce and undermine Britain's access to India and the East Indies, since Egypt was well-placed on the trade routes to these places. Bonaparte wished to establish a French presence in the Middle East, with the ultimate dream of linking with France's ally Tipu Sultan, ruler of Mysore in India. As France was not ready for a head-on attack on Great Britain itself, the Directoire decided to intervene indirectly and create a "double port" connecting the Red Sea to the Mediterranean Sea, prefiguring the Suez Canal.
At the time, Egypt had been an Ottoman province since 1517, but was now out of direct Ottoman control, and was in disorder, with dissension among the ruling Mamluk elite. In France, Egyptian fashion was in full swing – intellectuals believed that Egypt was the cradle of western civilization and wished to export the Enlightenment to the Egyptians, French traders already based on the River Nile were complaining of harassment by the Mamluks, and Napoleon wished to walk in the footsteps of Alexander the Great. He assured the Directoire that "as soon as he had conquered Egypt, he will establish relations with the Indian princes and, together with them, attack the English in their possessions." According to a 13 February 1798 report by Talleyrand, "Having occupied and fortified Egypt, we shall send a force of 15,000 men from Suez to the Sultanate of Mysore, to join the forces of Tipu Sultan and drive away the English." The Directoire agreed to the plan in March 1798, though troubled by its scope and cost. However, they saw that it would remove the popular and over-ambitious Napoleon from the center of power, though this motive long remained secret.
Before departure from Toulon
Rumors became rife as 40,000 soldiers and 10,000 sailors were gathered in French Mediterranean ports. A large fleet was assembled at Toulon: 13 ships of the line, 14 frigates, and 400 transports. To avoid interception by the British fleet under Nelson, the expeditions's target was kept secret. It was known only to Bonaparte himself, his generals Berthier and Caffarelli, and the mathematician Gaspard Monge. Bonaparte was the commander, with subordinates including Thomas Alexandre Dumas, Kléber, Desaix, Berthier, Caffarelli, Lannes, Damas, Murat, Andréossy, Belliard, Menou, and Zajączek. His aides de camp included his brother Louis Bonaparte, Duroc, Eugène de Beauharnais, Thomas Prosper Jullien, and the Polish nobleman Joseph Sulkowski.
The fleet at Toulon was joined by squadrons from Genoa, Civitavecchia and Bastia and was put under the command of Admiral Brueys and Contre-amirals Villeneuve, Du Chayla, Decrès and Ganteaume.
The fleet was about to set sail when a crisis developed with Austria, and the Directoire recalled Bonaparte in case war broke out. The crisis was resolved in a few weeks, and Bonaparte received orders to travel to Toulon as soon as possible. It is claimed that, in a stormy meeting with the Directoire, Bonaparte threatened to dissolve them and directeur Reubell gave him a pen saying "Sign there, general!"

In which John Green teaches you about how Islam has interacted with politics during it's history, and how it continues to do so today. Islamist movements are in the news a lot lately, but how did that happen. John will point out that Islam has alway been tied to political movements. Mohammed was not only a religious leader, he led an empire. So how did this lead to modern movements like ISIS? Islam has traditionally been a pretty egalitarian religion, and its scriptures value peace, so it is surprising in a lot of ways that such a violent fundamentalist movement would come out of it. What is a caliphate? What is a Caliph? John will teach you all about it. Take it easy in the comments, y'all. Be kind and respectful to each other.
You can directly support Crash Course at https://www.patreon.com/crashcourse Subscribe for as little as $0 to keep up with everything we're doing. Free is nice, but if you can afford to pay a little every month, it really helps us to continue producing this content.

ITurkish Prime Minister Ahmet Davutoglu has crossed into Syrian territory to pay a surprise visit to the tomb of the grandfather of the founder of the Ottoman Empire. In February, Turkey sent hundreds of troops into Syria to move the tomb — which was besieged by Islamic State militants — closer to the Turkish border and to evacuate dozens of Turkish soldiers who were guarding it. Davutoglu's office said the Turkish leader visited the shrine on Sunday. It now lies some 250 meters (yards) from the Turkish border in Syria's Ashma region.

Turkish Prime Minister Ahmet Davutoglu crossed briefly into Syria on Sunday to visit the tomb of a revered Turkish figure situated a few hundred meters from the Turkish border, in a move likely to anger the authorities in Damascus.
The tomb of Suleyman Shah, grandfather of the founder of the Ottoman Empire, had originally been sited further inside Syria but was relocated closer to the border in February in a Turkish military operation declared by the Syrian government as an act of "flagrant aggression".
Davutoglu's office said in a statement that he had visited the tomb but gave no further details.

With the defeat of the Ottoman Empire in WWI, the British and French colonial agenda called for the carving up of the former Turkish Empire and the creation of a number of Arab states that would be either under British or French colonial control.
The French would get Syria with Lebanon torn away to create the new Christian state of Lebanon, while the British got Iraq, and the Palestine Mandate which was later carved up into Trans-Jordan and given over to the Hashemites while the remaining third became the British Mandate of Palestine.
Whereas Trans-Jordan and the Arab population of Palestine were virtually exclusively Sunni Moslems, Iraq, Syria and Lebanon had diverse ethnic populations which were in various ways in conflict with each other.
Scant attention was paid to drawing logical borders, and instead, a ruler was used on the map of the Middle East to create countries such as Syria and Iraq which no longer exist today as they did before the onset of the so-called "Arab Spring" in February of 2011.
Both the French and British colonial powers used the principle of divide and conquer proferring power to the minority Alawites in Syria as well as the Arab Sunnis in Iraq. The Alawites represented a mere 10% of the population in Syria while the Arab Sunnis in Iraq represented a mere 20% of the entire population of Iraq.
In the West and Israel, governments are created based on a majority coalition or consensus. But in the Middle East, the British and French decided to create pacts with minority groups that would remain totally dependent and reliant on the colonial powers and totally ruthless with the other ethnic groups. Power sharing and democracy were never an option.
The Christians were granted a state in Lebanon, but by 1945, it was common knowledge that the Christians were now a minority, and the Shiites and Sunnis fought over who would be preeminent.
Today the Christians are about 28% in Lebanon and the Shiites about 40%.
The Ba'ath parties of Syria and Iraq followed the same Socialist/Fascist type ideology but detested each other because in Syria, the Ba'ath Party was dominated by the Shiite/Alawites while in Iraq, it was dominated by the Sunnis.
No consideration was ever given to the "other" groups not in the coalition with these minority totalitarian leaderships and so remained restive and were suppressed with complete brutality.
The whole system began to unravel with the US overthrow of Saddam Hussein in 2003 in Iraq. For George W. Bush, democracy meant the will of the majority. Well, the Shiites, a 60% majority overall in Iraq slaughtered for decades by Saddam were now the majority and so power was transferred to them in 2003 with the overthrow of Saddam.
The first thing they did was to disarm Saddam Hussein's Baath Party membership and slaughter them, simply taking revenge for the hundreds of thousands of Shiites slaughtered by Saddam and the Baath.
Today, ISIS, represents, among other things, a reorganized Sunni political, religious and military system to "protect" the Sunnis from the Shiites but has also indulged in slaughtering those Sunnis who are not fanatic Moslems. Today many Sunnis are rising up against ISIS as well.
In Syria, the Sunnis, who are about 80% are divided as follows: about 30% support Bashar al-Assad's Shiite Alawite regime together with the Alawites who are about 10% as well as the Christians and Druze who are about 10%. While the Sunni rebels are about 50% so 50-50 is a prescription for a never-ending war.
But the war will end in the favor of the Sunnis simply because the Sunnis have more volunteers coming from all over the world to join ISIS, Al-Qaeda, Jabhat al-Nusra, Khorasan, as well as the Syrian Free Army which is secular.
Simply put, the soldiers of Bashar al-Assad are being decimated and cannot be replaced. Hezbollah of Lebanon which has been helping Bashar al-Assad is also bleeding profusely and so are the Iranian and Iraqi Shiite volunteers coming to Syria to help Bashar.
A good parallel is the defeat of the Nazis in Europe and Japanese in WWII. Simply put, the US out produced the Axis powers while the Red Army of Russia had ten times as many soldiers as the Wehrmacht, German armed forces. It was only a question of time.
The old maps of Syria and Iraq no longer exist. Now we are seeing cantons developing representing the Kurdish, Alawite, Shiite and Sunni populated areas with each group protecting its territory.
Conclusion for Israel: Israel owes the British and French nothing regarding the artificial borders of Sykes-Pikot Treaty of 1919. The borders of the 1947 UN Partition Plan no longer exist. The June 5th, 1967 borders of Israel no longer exist and are not sacrosanct. In light of the present Middle East realities, there is no justification for any further Israeli withdrawals.

Travel video about destination Syria.
Syria is an ancient country of culture located between the Mediterranean and the desert. Its ancient desert metropolises, old villages, impenetrable fortresses and biblical harbour towns have witnessed the rich and fascinating history of bygone times.Damascus is the capital of Syria and symbol of culture in the Near East and located a hundred kilometres from the Mediterranean coast. The Kalaa Citadel is situated on the periphery of the old town that was once surrounded by huge walls and it was from there that Saladin fended off the attacks of the Crusaders. The Khan As´Ad Pasha is often referred to as being the most beautiful caravansary in the Near East. Its inner courtyard is covered by eight mighty and partly painted cupolas each of which is supported by four pillars. Set amid the desert savannah of Syria are the proud remains of a unique and mysterious metropolis, Palmyra, a legendary ancient city that was built due to the existence of the Tadmur Oasis. The shortest and fastest route from the Mediterranean to Mesopotamia and Persia travels directly past the Tadmur Oasis thus it was only a question of time until an important trading post was founded there. Around a quarter of a million Bedouins live in Syria’s desert areas. They are nomads who speak Arabic and belong to the Muslim faith and their income is derived from sheep, goats and camels which produce both milk and meat. They travel the desert accompanied by their animals. Further north on the edge of the fertile Al Ghab Ditch is the ancient metropolis of Apameia, one of the most beautiful cities in the Near East. Apart from Bosra and Palmyra this huge city of ruins is one of the most important Hellenist regions in Syria. Syria is the Pearl Of The East. With deserts, wadis and mountains, castles and crusader fortresses, Roman ruins, palaces and mosques. A legendary country between both past and future whose cultural treasures still survive today.

Take a tour of Ancient City of Bosra in Bosra, Syrian Arab Republic -- part of the World's Greatest Attractions travel video series by GeoBeats.
The half-standing ruins of this dark-stoned city rise out of the southern Syrian landscape.
Nearly deserted today, Bosra has a great deal of history from thousands of years of habitation by different cultures.
The city is at least old enough to have appeared in historical documents from the fourteenth century BC.
Early in the first millennium AD, Bosra became a part of the Roman Empire, which is the strongest influence seen at work in the ruins.
Since then, it has been the territory of the Byzantine Empire and the Arabs who swept in during the seventh century.
Among the ruined city's Roman and Christian structures, the fortified amphitheater is probably the greatest.
This deep, stadium-like building is mostly intact and gives a taste of what Bosra may once have been like.

Travel video about destination Damascus in Syria.
Damascus is the capital of Syria and is a symbol of culture in the Near East. A hundred kilometres from the Mediterranean coast, the strategically located city was once the capital of the Umayyad.Cannons, the busts of various presidents and military vehicles are displayed in the large courtyard of the Takiyeh Mosque, an ancient Dervish monastery complex. Built in 1554 and designed by Ottoman master architect, Sinan, it also includes an adjoining inn for the numerous pilgrims who travelled to Mecca. Damascus has always been much prized: by the pharaohs and the Babylonian monarch, Nebukadnezar, and later, Alexander The Great. Then came Persian, Roman and Islamic emperors followed by the Crusaders and Mongols. The Kalaa Citadel is situated on the periphery of the old town that was once surrounded by huge walls. It was from here that Saladin fended off the attacks of the Crusaders. The Romans built a fort here that was constantly extended with impressive walls and towers and located directly outside the city wall, the River Barada was also of strategic importance. Although the Mongols destroyed the inner buildings, the fortress walls survived. The Suq is an important part of every Islamic city, a market that originated in ancient times. Thousands of shops in numerous interconnected lanes form the commercial heart of Damascus. In the Gold Suq everything glitters, bracelets, rings and even a large variety of kitchen utensils. Damascus has for thousands of years been a place desired by the powerful. Yet it has managed to survive and is still the most beautiful capital city in the Near East.

Syria, officially the Syrian Arab Republic, is a country in Western Asia, bordering Lebanon and the Mediterranean Sea to the west, Turkey to the north, Iraq to the east, Jordan to the south, and Israel to the southwest. Its capital Damascus is among the oldest continuously-inhabited cities in the world. A country of fertile plains, high mountains, and deserts, it is home to diverse ethnic and religious groups, including the Arab, Greeks, Armenians, Assyrians, Kurds, Circassians, Mhallami, Mandeans and Turks. Religious groups include Sunni, Christians, Alawite, Druze religion, Mandeanism and Yezidi. Sunni Arabs make up the largest population group in Syria.
In English, the name "Syria" was formerly synonymous with the Levant (known in Arabic as al-Sham) while the modern state encompasses the sites of several ancient kingdoms and empires, including the Eblan civilization of the 3rd millennium BC. In the Islamic era, Damascus was the seat of the Umayyad Caliphate and a provincial capital of the Mamluk Sultanate in Egypt.
The modern Syrian state was established after World War I as a French mandate, and represented the largest Arab state to emerge from the formerly Ottoman-ruled Arab Levant. It gained independence in April 1946, as a parliamentary republic. The post-independence period was tumultuous, and a large number of military coups and coup attempts shook the country in the period 1949–1971. Between 1958-61, Syria entered a brief union with Egypt, which was terminated by a military coup. The Arab Republic of Syria came into being in 1963, transforming from the Republic of Syria in the Ba'athist coup d'état. Syria was under Emergency Law from 1963 to 2011, effectively suspending most constitutional protections for citizens, and its system of government is considered to be non-democratic. Bashar al-Assad has been president since 2000 and was preceded by his father Hafez al-Assad, who was in office from 1970 to 2000.

Travel video about destination Palmyra in Syria.
The ancient city of Palmyra is located in the Tadmur Oasis in the very heart of the Syrian savannah. Surrounded by arid desert it was once a proud and pulsating trading metropolisand everywhere can be seen relics of a bygone age that was full of myth and mystique. The influence of the legendary oasis city grew due to it having been regarded as a province of Rome. The Romans soon recognized the strategic importance of Palmyra as it was a vital centre of trade in the Near East. Palmyra’s fine buildings such as its Amphitheatre were typical of its impressive architecture. Most of the Tetrapylon has been restored. It towers high above the ancient ruins and the Great Colonnade was once the main street of the historic metropolis. Beyond the city walls in the Valley Of Tombs the mystic atmosphere of the former caravan city becomes apparent. Several well preserved mausoleums give the surreal looking desert landscape a truly ghostly atmosphere. The architecture of these multi-floored burial places are unique in the world. The view from the Arabian fortress extends across the picturesque ruins of the city to the endless horizons of the desert. The oasis and ancient remains of Palmyra look almost surreal as if in a dream yet the old ruins and the mighty fortress really do exist in very tangible and resplendent form.

Tip Trays, laid down in the story is chidatneun towards the climax. "Already I came in third place, very unique. It's one of the places you should see just once and you come to Syria. 구시가지 골목에는 시리아의 대표적인 거리음식이 한 가지 있다. 바로 샤와르마라는 음식인데 양고기를 얇은 빵에 싸서 먹는 것이다. 케밥과 비슷한 음식으로 특히 주머니가 가벼운 여행객들에게 안성맞춤인 음식으로 인기를 끌고 있다. 시리아판 패스트푸드인 셈인데 맛 또한 훌륭하다.

A young couple from Mississippi faces federal charges after the pair was arrested over the weekend for conspiring and attempting to provide material support and resources to the Islamic State (ISIS) group.
The arrested couple, Jaelyn Delshaun Young, 20, and Muhammad Oda Dakhlalla, 22, had been in fact revealing their plans of joining ISIS to covert FBI agents online since May, the Wall Street Journal reported.
Young allegedly said her skills in math and chemistry and work experience at an analytical lab as well as her partner’s computer science skills would be useful to ISIS. The couple also expressed that they would love to provide medical aid, according to the Wall Street Journal.
Young said the wedding took place in June and the couple would travel to Istanbul and eventually enter Syria to join ISIS using honeymoon as their cover story, CNN reported.
The couple was arrested at the Golden Triangle Regional Airport Saturday morning, just before boarding a plane to Istanbul. They could face up to 20 years in prison if convicted, Reuters reported.

Also surprising was the appearance of a Muslim leader appeared in the Christian event. The visit to share it with the feast of Christianity. Following the parades to celebrate Palm Sunday began. Christian events seen in Syria and the whole Islamic countries are thought was picked up by two. At the same time in other parts of the city it was unfolding the march of other Christian denominations. Approximately 13% of the Syrian population is Christian. Their religious activities yen should not have any restrictions. Come a day ago incredible view. "Syria is not any problem between Islam and Christianity. A delicate operation on the Syria – Turkey border appears to have gone smoothly.
Turkish soldiers guarding the tomb of Suleyman Shah – the grandfather of the founder of the Ottoman Empire – have been evacuated from Syria, Turkey’s Prime Minister Ahmet Davutoglu has announced.
Although 37 kilometres across the border into Syria, the tomb lies in Turkish territory, according to a treaty signed in 1921.
It is usually guarded by some 40 soldiers, who rotate periodically, but routes between the site and Turkey have been blocked for around eight months, Turkish media states.
The remains of the body were exhumed and the site destroyed, our correspondent, Bora Bayraktar, reports.
PM Davutoglu said Suleyman Shah’s remains will now be moved to an area of Syria which is under the control of the Turkish military.
Our correspondent 572 soldiers entered from the border town of Kobani to relieve the guards of their posts. It’s a city Syrian Kurdish fighters took back from ISIL militants in January.
Late in 2014, the Turkish government claimed ISIL militants were advancing on the site.
Reports now suggest the overnight operation to withdraw troops was carried out because of this threat. The process was said to have been coordinated with the Syrian Kurds – a group heavily involved in the fight against the Islamic State militants.
There were no armed clashes, although one Turkish soldier died in an accident at the beginning of the operation.

Thomas Edward Lawrence, CB, DSO (16 August 1888 -- 19 May 1935), known professionally as T. E. Lawrence, was a British Army officer renowned especially for his liaison role during the Sinai and Palestine Campaign and the Arab Revolt against Ottoman Turkish rule of 1916--18. The breadth and variety of his activities and associations, and his ability to describe them vividly in writing, earned him international fame as Lawrence of Arabia, a title which was used for the 1962 film based on his World War I activities.
Lawrence was born illegitimate in Tremadog, Wales, in August 1888 to Sir Thomas Chapman and Sarah Junner, a governess who was herself illegitimate. Chapman had left his wife and first family in Ireland to live with Sarah Junner, and they called themselves Mr and Mrs Lawrence. In the summer of 1896 the Lawrences moved to Oxford, where in 1907--10 young Lawrence studied history at Jesus College, graduating with First Class Honours. He became a practising archaeologist in the Middle East, working at various excavations with David George Hogarth and Leonard Woolley. In 1908 he joined the Oxford University Officer Training Corps, undergoing a two-year training course. In January 1914, before the outbreak of World War I, Lawrence was co-opted by the British Army to undertake a military survey of the Negev Desert while doing archaeological research.
Lawrence's public image resulted in part from the sensationalised reportage of the revolt by an American journalist, Lowell Thomas, as well as from Lawrence's autobiographical account, Seven Pillars of Wisdom (1922). In 1935, he was fatally injured in a motorbike crash in Dorset.
Lawrence was born on 16 August 1888 in Tremadog, Caernarfonshire (now Gwynedd), Wales, in a house named Gorphwysfa, now known as Snowdon Lodge. His Anglo-Irish father, Thomas Robert Tighe Chapman, who in 1914 inherited the title of Westmeath in Ireland as seventh Baronet, had left his wife Edith for his daughters' governess Sarah Junner. Junner's mother, Elizabeth Junner, had named as Sarah's father a "John Junner -- shipwright journeyman", though she had been living as an unmarried servant in the household of a John Lawrence, ship's carpenter, just four months earlier.
Thomas Chapman and Sarah Junner did not marry, but were known as Mr and Mrs Lawrence. They had five sons, of whom Thomas Edward was the second eldest. From Wales the family moved to Kirkcudbright in Dumfries and Galloway, then Dinard in Brittany, then to Jersey. In 1894--96 the family lived at Langley Lodge (now demolished), set in private woods between the eastern borders of the New Forest and Southampton Water in Hampshire. Mr Lawrence sailed and took the boys to watch yacht racing in the Solent off Lepe beach. By the time they left, the eight-year-old Ned (as Lawrence became known) had developed a taste for the countryside and outdoor activities.
In the summer of 1896 the Lawrences moved to 2 Polstead Road in Oxford, where, until 1921, they lived under the names of Mr and Mrs Lawrence. Lawrence attended the City of Oxford High School for Boys, where one of the four houses was later named "Lawrence" in his honour; the school closed in 1966. As a schoolboy, one of his favourite pastimes was to cycle to country churches and make brass rubbings. Lawrence and one of his brothers became commissioned officers in the Church Lads' Brigade at St Aldate's Church.
Lawrence claimed that in about 1905, he ran away from home and served for a few weeks as a boy soldier with the Royal Garrison Artillery at St Mawes Castle in Cornwall, from which he was bought out. No evidence of this can be found in army records.
Middle East archaeology
At the age of 15 Lawrence and his schoolfriend Cyril Beeson bicycled around Berkshire, Buckinghamshire and Oxfordshire, visited almost every village's parish church, studied their monuments and antiquities and made rubbings of their monumental brasses. Lawrence and Beeson monitored building sites in Oxford and presented their finds to the Ashmolean Museum. The Ashmolean's Annual Report for 1906 said that the two teenage boys "by incessant watchfulness secured everything of antiquarian value which has been found". In the summers of 1906 and 1907 Lawrence and Beeson toured France by bicycle, collecting photographs, drawings and measurements of medieval castles.
From 1907 to 1910 Lawrence studied history at Jesus College, Oxford. In the summer of 1909 Lawrence set out alone on a three-month walking tour of crusader castles in Ottoman Syria, in which he travelled 1,000 mi (1,600 km) on foot. Lawrence graduated with First Class Honours after submitting a thesis entitled The influence of the Crusades on European Military Architecture—to the end of the 12th century based on his field research with Beeson in France, notably in Châlus, and his solo research in the Middle East.

Between 1958-61, Syria entered a brief union with Egypt, which was terminated by a military coup. Slavic Slave Trade by Muslim Turks (Ottoman) and Tartars

The Ottoman penetration into Europe in the 1350s and their capture of Constantinople later in 1453 opened new floodgates for slave-trade from the European front. In their last attempt to overrun Europe in 1683, the Ottoman army, although defeated, returned from the Gates of Vienna with 80,000 captives.874 An immense number of slaves flowed from the Crimea, the Balkans and the steppes of West Asia to Islamic markets. BD Davis laments that the ‘‘Tartars and other Black Sea peoples had sold millions of Ukrainians, Georgians, Circassians, Greeks, Armenians, Bulgarians, Slavs and Turks,’’ which received little notice.875 Crimean Tatars enslaved and sold some 1,750,000 Ukrainians, Poles and Russian between 1468 and 1694. 876 According to another estimate, between 1450 and 1700, the Crimean Tatars exported some 10,000 slaves, including some Circassians, annually—that is, some 2,500,000 slaves in all, to the Ottoman Empire.877 The Tatar slave-raiding Khans returned with 18,000 slaves from Poland (1463), 100,000 from Lvov (1498), 60,000 from South Russia (1515), 50,000–100,000 from Galicia (1516), during the ‘harvesting of the steppe.’ Numbers from Moscow (1521), 800,000 were taken and from Valynia (1676), 400,000 were taken. 800,000 from Moscow (1521), 200,000 from South Russia (1555), 100,000 from Moscow (1571), 50,000 from Poland (1612), 60,000 from South Russia (1646), 100,000 from Poland (1648), 300,000 from Ukraine (1654), 400,000 from Valynia (1676) and thousands from Poland (1694). Besides these major catches, they made countless more Jihad raids during the same period, which yielded a few to tens of thousands of slaves.878 These figures of enslavement must be considered in the context that the population of the Tatar Khanate was only about 400,000 at the time. (1463-1694) while sources are incomplete, conservative tabulation of the slave raids against the Eastern European population indicate that at least 7 Million European people-men, women, children were enslaved by Muslims.
Sources suggest that in the few years between 1436-1442, some 500,000 people were seized in the Balkans. Many of the captives died in forced marches towards Anatolia (Turkey). Contemporary chronicles note that the Ottomans reduced masses of the inhabitants of Greece, Romania, and the Balkans to slavery eg from Moree (1460)-70,000 and Transylvania (1438) - 60,000-70,000 and 300,000-600,000 from Hungary and 10,000 from Mytilene/Mitilini on Lesbos island (1462) (Bulgaru p 567) and so it continued.
The vicious destruction of Constantinople in 1453 shows the religious zeal of the Muslims, their hatred of Christians, massacres, destruction and pillage and of course, the enslavement of 50,000-60,000 people!
Turkoman Archer massacre, enslavement, exile, destruction of farming, destruction of trade, depopulation, reduced productivity, and destruction of the normal exchange of knowledge around the Mediterranean and through Christian and Jewish societies, plus colonisation by Muslims---as also occurred in the conquest of Asia Minor. The states of Byzantium, Bulgaria, Serbia...had reached a high level of economic and cultural development before the Muslim attacks.
The conquest of the Balkan peoples was disastrous and for centuries trammelled their normal economic and social development. Yet its described as a blessing for the population (they had the chance to become Muslim) and we are fed lies of peace and economic unity. The Turks didnt have a higher culture or better civic organisationthey were semibarbarian tribes bent of pillage and war, enriching themselves with booty.(estates, slaves, money, jewels) and rendered fanatical by the dogmas of Islam
Even a brief look at the date list in the slavery series, shows the violence and oppression by the Muslims! Byzantine historian Georgius Pachymeres, a contemporary of the events in the 1262-82 invasion north of the meander, (Paphlagonia, Caria in Asia Minor) described the ruination of towns and monasteries, the fleeing population and the conversion of land into a Scythian desert. He notes indiscriminate massacres, large scale enslavement, the merciless crushing of any resistance and the death of the entire male population where people refused to surrender.
The 14th century Ottoman state had only a rudimentary economy with underdeveloped commerce and trades and money was rare. Enslavement served to weaken nations as populations were depleted and moved. Mass enslavements are documented.
The remaining populations were severely exploited peasants who laboured for others and were subjected to excessive taxes and fines. Similarly artisans were needed so, despite the routine massacres and deportations, the military was used to stop people fleeing and force them to remain.
wn.com/Slavic Slave Trade By Muslim Turks (Ottoman) And Tartars

Syria Yemen Najd: The Triangle of Akhir Al Zaman By Sheikh Imran Hosein. Held in Trinidad & Tobago at the studios of Islamic Broadcasting Network, May 2015.
The purpose of this brief address is to direct attention to a very important prophecy of Prophet Muhammad (sallalahu 'alaihi wa sallam) in which we expose and challenge the bogus fraudulent and utterly futile attempt to identify Najd of the prophecy (and the Satanic Age) with a part of Iraq. The people of Hejaz have never, and will never, recognize 'Our Najd' as any other than the Najd of Arabia.
All that we have done is to confirm what is already well known, i.e., that the present Saudi-Wahhabi ruling alliance which came out of Najd, represent the Satanic Age prophesied by Nabi Muhammad (sallalahu 'alaihi wa sallam).
We also suggest that the Saudi Najdi naked aggression on Yemen will eventually provoke the Fire of Yemen prophesied by the blessed Prophet. We interpret that 'Fire' to be a revolutionary 'Fire' which will cleanse Arabia of traitors who succeeded the Ottoman Empire in ruling over Arabia on behalf of Dajjal. We say to our critics: Just wait, and you will eventually see for yourself who is correct in this matter. .
Finally let me advise that the Comments Section be used for making comments and not for pursuing arguments. Those who differ with views expressed for example, may respond with comments and offer, if possible, their own 'correct' view, but should refrain from cluttering the Comments Section while endlessly repeating their objections and arguments. I invite them, kindly so, to deliver their own view on the subject in a presentation placed on the internet for public scrutiny.

The Israeli–Palestinian clash (Arabic: النزاع الفلسطيني - الإسرائيلي al-Niza'a al'Filastini al 'Israili; Hebrew: הסכסוך הישראלי-פלסטיני Ha'Sikhsukh Ha'Yisraeli-Falestini) is the continuous battle in the middle of Israelis and Palestinians that started in the mid-twentieth century. The contention is far reaching, and the term is now and then likewise utilized as a part of reference to the prior partisan clash in Mandatory Palestine, between the Jewish yishuv and the Arab populace under British standard. The Israeli–Palestinian clash has shaped the center piece of the more extensive Arab–Israeli clash.
