Cupar (/ˈkuːpər/ listen ; Scottish Gaelic: Cùbar) is a town and former royal burgh in Fife, Scotland. The town is situated between Dundee and Glenrothes.
According to a 2011 population estimate, Cupar had a population around 9,000, the ninth largest settlement in Fife.
The town is believed to have grown around the site of Cupar Castle, which was the seat of the sheriff and was owned by the earls of Fife. The area became a centre for judiciary as the county of Fife and as a market town catering for both cattle and sheep.
Towards the latter stages of the 13th century, the burgh became the site of an assembly of the three estates - clergy, nobility and burgesses - organised by Alexander III in 1276 as a predecessor of the Parliament of Scotland. Although written information of a charter for the modern town was lost, evidence suggested that this existed as one of the many properties owned by the Earls of Fife by 1294.
During the middle of the 14th century, the burgh started to pay customs on taxable incomes, which probably meant that royal burgh status was granted sometime between 1294 and 1328. The oldest document, referring to the royal burgh, was a grant by Robert II in 1381 to give a port at Guardbridge on the River Eden to help boost trade with Flanders. This grant was officially recognised by James II in 1428.

Tour Scotland video of fish and chips in the Central Cafe on Crossgate Street on ancestry visit to Cupar, Fife. I always enjoy my fish supper here. Fish and chips became a common meal among the working classes in the United Kingdom as a consequence of the rapid development of trawler fishing in the North Sea, and the development of railways which connected the ports to major industrial cities during the second half of the 19th century, which meant that fresh fish could be rapidly transported to the heavily populated areas. Deep fried fish was first introduced into Britain during the 17th century by Jewish refugees from Portugal and Spain and is derived from pescado frito. In 1860, the first fish and chip shop was opened in London by Joseph Malin.

Fernie Castle, Fife, Scotland. The ancient castle of Fernie in the parish of Monimail, four miles west of Cupar, was first recorded in 1353 when it belonged to the Earl of Fife, Duncan the 13th. By the fifteenth century, Western Fernie was held by a family known as Fernie of that Ilk and then, in the 16th century, by the Arnotts who kept it for a century. In 1680, the Balfours of Burleigh became the owners and their descendants retained the tenure until 1965. Today the castle is a hotel. Tour Scotland Scotland Tour Guide: Sandy Stevenson

Crawford Priory is a country house about 2 miles south west of Cupar, Fife, Scotland. It is a former residence of the Earls of Crawford, Earls of Glasgow and Barons Cochrane of Cults. It lies just outside the village of Springfield. Originally built as Crawford Lodge by the 21st Earl of Crawford in 1758, it was substantially enlarged and extended in the early nineteenth century by a sister of the 22nd Earl, Lady Mary Lindsay Crawford. Lady Mary engaged architects David Hamilton, and then James Gillespie Graham, to redesign the building in the gothic style, adding buttresses, turrets and pinnacles effecting the look of a priory, although it had had no religious history.[1] Lady Mary's heirs, the Earls of Glasgow, further developed the house. In 1871 the 6th Earl of Glasgow built a chapel...
Tour Scotland video of cooking " Arbroath Smokies " on visit to the Fife Show by Cupar, Fife. Arbroath smokies are a type of lightly smoked small haddock with a particularly good flavour and texture. To cook smokies , a smokie pit is prepared. A hole is dug in the ground, and a half whisky barrel is set into it. The base of the barrel is lined with slates to protect it, and a hardwood fire of beech and oak is lit inside. The sticks of fish are then placed over the pit and the hessian cover allows the fire to breathe and maintain the required heat
I've got a broken sky
Miles above
I talk to every night
It used to be the one to say it's all right
Now it's the setting sun
Every part of me is you
Can we make this black sky blue?
Well maybe I wouldn't be so broken-hearted
If you were still here with me
Love is just a disease
I'm taught about it
It only makes me cry
I walk these empty rooms
Half alive
And not the way I knew
Sometimes the silence seems so loud
I hear it in my dreams
Every part of me is you
Can we fill these empty rooms?
Maybe I wouldn't be so broken-hearted
If you were still here with me
Love is just a disease
I'm taught about it
It only makes me cry, ohhh...
Every part of me is you
Can we make this black sky blue?
Well maybe I wouldn't be so broken-hearted
If you were still here with me
Love is just a disease
I'm taught about it
It only makes me cry... oooh...
