As an
Arsenal supporter, the
FA Cup has always meant a lot to me. The memories of last year and previous years such as Viera's penalty,
Alan Sunderland's goal and, so its fresh in the mind, the goal by
Aaron Ramsey who took our season by storm. However, the new season came upon us and Arsenal started on the back foot suffering heavy, morale destroying defeats. We needed a saviour, someone to bail us out of the rough times and, to our surprise, injuries forced us into making vital changes.
The additions of
Francis Coquelin,
Hector Bellerin and
Alexis Sanchez proved significant as Arsenal went on a magnificent run at the start of the year but fell short of catching
Chelsea due to the poor start. As form improved, something became clear that we really could salvage something out of what seemed to be a season to forget. We managed to beat
Manchester City on their own turf which was a feat that was achieved quite a while ago. The squad looked energised and eager to fight in order to win games. Our form against these
Premier League giants began to improve as we went on to break
United's hearts by beating them 2-1 in an encounter that not only saw us through to
Wembley, but also a certain scorer known as
Danny Welbeck crushed United's hopes after he was told he was 'not good enough for them.'
Our season looked in firm control and we began to hover within the top three. It was a great achievement since the start of the season saw us a formidable distance outside the top four.
The FA Cup Semi-final came upon us and we managed to beat
Reading 2-1 and, once again, Alexis Sanchez bailing us out as it seemed to be.
We saw a relaxing end to the season as the team secured a minimum of 3rd spot. We were still eyeing 2nd place however, considering
City's run in form, we were unable to break down
Swansea and
Sunderland in which we dropped valuable points in. It was worrying that, with the
FA Cup final nearing, form wasn't going our way.
Suddenly, a blitz on the final day of the season saw Arsenal thrash
West Bromwich 4-1 and grow in confidence as a certain
Theo Walcott bagged a stunning 33 minute hat trick which sealed his place in the starting XI to play
Aston Villa the coming weekend.
The final was upon us and we needed to perform. This was the climax of our rollercoaster season that took us to new levels yet exceeding lows. It all came down to this moment and the rest was to play for. This is
Our Story, Arsenal's
Story.
