ARISS Contact between The Kings School, Ottery St Mary GB1OSM and Tim Peake GB1SS on 9 May 2016

This is the recording of the ARISS contact between Tim Peake GB1SS and The King's School, Ottery St Mary, Devon GB1OSM on 9th May 2016. The video starts with an introduction from James and Millie, the head boy and girl at the school. At approximately 16 minutes into the video, there is a short video, created by Mat M6MTI from the school, of all the activities the King's School have been involved in that involved the school, clubs and teachers as well as other schools in the area. At approximately 22 minutes into the video, Millie and James introduce the winning entries in an art competition that the school ran before there is a short musical interlude whilst the entries are displayed. They then hold a short quiz with the audience before handing over to Susan Buckle from the UK Space Agency who gives a presentation about Tim Peake, the work he is doing on the ISS and also of the structure of the ISS, highlighting the international nature of the Space Station. Toward the end of her presentation, a question and answer session allowed the audience to ask Susan and Libby Jackson, also from the UK Space Agency, a range of questions. Ciaran Morgan M0XTD, the UK Operations Lead for ARISS then takes over (at approx 55 minutes) and details what is going to happen during the contact. Ian Jones, from the Goonhilly Satellite Earth Station explains the role of Goonhilly and GH99 which is used to receive the HamTV signals from the ISS. The contact with Tim Peake GB1SS starts at approximately the one hour twelve minute mark with Matt M6MTI on the microphone. After the contact has finished, Ciaran hands over to James and Millie to sum up the experience of the day and to close the ARISS contact at The King's School Ottery St Mary.
