Germany (/ˈdʒɜːrməni/; German: Deutschland [ˈdɔʏtʃlant]), officially the Federal Republic of Germany (German: Bundesrepublik Deutschland, listen ), is a federal parliamentary republic in West-Central Europe. It includes 16 constituent states and covers an area of 357,021 square kilometres (137,847 sq mi) with a largely temperate seasonal climate. Its capital and largest city is Berlin. With about 81.5 million inhabitants, Germany is the most populous member state in the European Union. After the United States, it is the second most popular migration destination in the world.
Various Germanic tribes have occupied northern Germany since classical antiquity. A region named Germania was documented before 100 AD. During the Migration Period the Germanic tribes expanded southward. Beginning in the 10th century, German territories formed a central part of the Holy Roman Empire. During the 16th century, northern German regions became the centre of the Protestant Reformation.
Gymnasium (German pronunciation: [ɡʏmˈnaːzi̯ʊm]; German plural: Gymnasien), in the German education system, is the most advanced of the three types of German secondary schools, the others being Realschule and Hauptschule. Gymnasium strongly emphasizes academic learning, comparable to the British grammar school system or with prep schools in the United States. A student attending gymnasium is called a "gymnasiast" (German plural: "Gymnasiasten"). In 2009/10 there were 3,094 gymnasia in Germany, with c. 2,475,000 students (about 28 percent of all precollegiate students during that period), resulting in an average student number of 800 students per school. Gymnasia are generally public, state-funded schools, but a number of parochial and private gymnasia also exist. In 2009/10, 11.1 percent of gymnasium students attended a private gymnasium. These often charge tuition fees, though many also offer scholarships. Tuition fees are lower than in comparable European countries.
The responsibility for the German education system lies primarily with the states (Länder), while the federal government plays a minor role. Optional Kindergarten (nursery school) education is provided for all children between two and six years of age, after which school attendance is compulsory. The system varies throughout Germany because each state (Land) decides its own educational policies. Most children, however, first attend Grundschule from the age of six to ten.
This video highlights an excellent public middle school / high school in Germany. The "gymnasium" is for the most intellectual students with the highest IQ's. After viewing the 6 videos that I made of this school, you should have a good understanding of how the top 30% of the university bound students are educated in Germany. This episode is all about the German school system. No matter if Grundschule, Hauptschule, Realschule, Gymnasium or Gesamtschule - it is all in this episode.

Welcome to Berlin, the capital city of Germany. The first documentation of Berlin appears in the 13th century, and it has a long history of importance—it’s been the capital of the Margraviate of Brandenburg and the Kingdom of Prussia, among others. The lengthy history encompassing the city often manifests in its eclectic collection of architecture, which you should certainly include on your Berlin tour. From the towering classical lines of Charlottenburg Palace, built for the Hohenzollern family in the 17th century, to the sleek mirrored sides of the Bahn Tower, you’re bound to find plenty to look at in the city’s downtown area. Fancy a real German lager? Stop by Prater Garten for a brew—built in 1837, it’s one of the handful of buildings that has survived both World Wars. You can sit ou...

Travel video about destination Germany. Germany is situated in the middle of Europe and is a land of diverse culture and tradition, from Bavarian homeliness in the south, and mediaeval splendour within its centre, to its flourishing lifestyle in the east and large commercial cities in the north, it is a country which extends from the Alps to the North Sea. The episcopal city of Passau nestles between hills at the confluence of the Danube, Inn and Ilz. High above the rivers and strategically perched on a rock is the castle complex of Veste Oberhaus, imposing and impregnable. The salt trade enriched the town and Italian baroque masters were allowed to create the cityscape of the historic old town. Beginning in Würzburg On The Main, the Romantic Road leads to various well known historic cit...

License Video: dissolve.com/products?media_type=video&producer;=Pete+R&sort;_by_date=true Last month, I went to Germany alone. I entered the country as lonely as a solo traveler could be. I ate alone, drank alone, and walked alone. But along the way, I met people, made new friends and rekindled old ones. By the time I left the country, I was no longer alone. I had the opportunity to be hosted by several German friends around the country, I partied with them, drink with them, and hung out with them. I experienced the alternative culture in Berlin. I lost my bag in Cologne (http://blog.bucketlistly.com/post/132467427542/bag-stolen-germany-cologne). I celebrated my Birthday with a Pool match and a rap battle concert in Dresden. It was a hell of a ride. As the saying goes, "Happiness is onl...

Berlin, the capital of Germany, lies on the banks of the River Spree. The city has an eclectic mix of architectural styles; everything from the modern dome of the Reichstag to that of the old Berlin Cathedral. The Chapel of Reconciliation is the spiritual heart of the Berlin Wall Memorial. The DDR Museum shows what life was like in East Germany during Socialist rule. Checkpoint Charlie was the Cold War's most famous border crossing; today the adjacent museum describes the clever ways in which Berliners defected from East to West. Berlin's East Side Gallery is one of the largest outdoor art exhibits in the world. The Holocaust Memorial serves as a poignant reminder of World War II. Rolling out before the Brandenburg Gate are the lawns and canals of the Tiergarten. Highlight here inclu...
