So, here we are, showcase 19, and we're finally covering a voice actor. Making this showcase was an... interesting experience... Yeah, if I'm gonna be brutally honest, I like Keith Wickham, I think he's a fantastic voice actor and he covers his characters very well, but I'm never gonna cover another voice actor again. It is a lot more exhausting and time consuming than regular narrators... Whew!

So in a few Doctor Who DVDs, there's a feature they included called "Tomorrow's Times", where someone who used to be part of Doctor Who talks about what happened during the era of the series, and often show reviews of critics saying about the program. One of the voice overs for the reviews is Thomas actor Keith Wickham. Keep in mind, this is him doing voiceovers on the reviews, not him actually reviewing.

Keith Wickham
Keith Wickham (born 9 February 1965) is an English voice actor and comedian known for providing the voices of various characters in the Iconic UK children's television series Thomas & Friends.
Career
He is well known for voicing Changed Daily in The Secret Show, Mr. Small, and Mr. Tall in The Mr. Men Show (UK version), Corneil in Watch My Chops, Mr. Mouseling and most of the male voices in Angelina Ballerina, Nelson the Elephant, Victor the Crocodile and others in 64 Zoo Lane, Frank the Koala, Archie the Crocodile and Sammy the Shopkeeper in The Koala Brothers and Ol' Graham the Galleon, H.P. the Speedboat, Ken Toyn the Shipwright and Bryan the Ferry in Toot the Tiny Tugboat.
He is Polluto in Tommy Zoom, the first in-house BBC animation production, The Professor, Pipsquawk, Trevor and Mr. Crumble in Frankenstein's Cat and is also in Disney Channel's Jungle Junction, (Early 2009) for then "Playhouse Disney and Spider Eye Productions.
Other cartoons include: Vampires, Pirates & Aliens, Tails and The Thousand Tasks, The Way Things Work, and The Octonauts in which he plays both Professor Inkling and biologist Shellington. He has appeared in about 20 CD-ROM games including Fable and Fable II, and his voice is on numerous TV commercials. He appeared on stage as Kenneth Williams in Round the Horne Revisited.

Thomas & Friends
Thomas & Friends (titled Thomas the Tank Engine & Friends prior to 2003) is a British children's television series. It had its first broadcast on the ITV network in Great Britain in 1984 and first aired in the United States on PBS KIDS in 2004. It is based on The Railway Series of books by the Reverend Wilbert Awdry and his son, Christopher Awdry. These books deal with the adventures of a group of anthropomorphised locomotives and road vehicles who live on the fictional Island of Sodor. The books were based on stories Wilbert told to entertain his son, Christopher, during his recovery from measles. Many of the stories from the first four series are based on events from Awdry's personal experience.

Wickham
Coordinates: 50°54′N 1°11′W / 50.90°N 1.19°W / 50.90; -1.19
Wickham is a small village and civil parish in Hampshire, England, about three miles north of Fareham. At the 2001 census, it had a population of 4,816.
Wickham has a wide and well-proportioned square lined with historic buildings and is designated a conservation area.
It was the fording place of the River Meon on the Roman road between Noviomagus Regnorum (Chichester) and Venta Belgarum (Winchester), and the inferred divergent point of the route to Clausentum (Bitterne). The Roman road from Wickham to Chichester is still followed today by local roads, passing behind Portsdown Hill to the north of Portsmouth Harbour and then onwards via Havant. In contrast, the route to Winchester is mostly likely lost through neglect in the Dark Ages, before present field patterns emerged.
There have been a reasonable number of sites identified nearby associated with Romano-British industry. These have mainly been pottery kilns focused around the limit of navigation of the River Hamble, near Botley. It is also here that a ford on the Clausentum road has been identified.

The Fat Controller
Sir Topham Hatt (named The Fat Controller in the UK) is the head of the railway in The Railway Series of books written by the Rev. W. V. Awdry. In the first two books in the series (The Three Railway Engines and Thomas the Tank Engine) he is known as the Fat Director. In the third book (James the Red Engine) he becomes the Fat Controller, as the railway has been nationalised. His full name is revealed in the foreword to the book Henry the Green Engine.
Sir Topham Hatt also appears in many episodes of the television series Thomas & Friends, adapted from the books. In this he was usually portrayed in the form of a static figure, but from Series 12 onwards was portrayed using CGI.
The name or term "fat controller" has since been adopted in various contexts in the English language, beyond the sphere of the original stories.
Origin of nickname
The character is first seen in "The Sad Story of Henry" in the first book in the Railway Series, The Three Railway Engines. When Henry refused to leave a tunnel, the story says "a Fat Director who was on the train told the guard to get a rope". The character is referred to as the Fat Director/Controller for the remainder of the Railway Series, both in the narrative and by the other characters. The name Sir Topham Hatt is first mentioned in the Foreword to Henry the Green Engine and also appears on his luggage trunk in the same book in the story "Percy and the Trousers". The first use of the name Sir Topham Hatt in the narrative comes in the episode 'The Sad Story of Henry' when Ringo Starr introduces him to the audience.

It's been many years since Sir Topham Hatt first came to Sodor as a railway engineer who rose quickly in the company being a director at an early age and eventually chairman. His imposing appearance but firm and kind handling of both engines and staff earned him the nickname of The Fat Director until he was awarded a knighthood for his services to the industry and became the fat controller that we've all come to know and love... Hadley became a rockstar in the world of data science by creating a package called ggplot2, which turns data into visualisations. Jason and Hadley also discuss the process of “open writing” in modern technical journals. Then, Jason shares his desire to make predictions, and hopes that Hadley can share some advice on how to utilize statistics to make accurate predictions as an investor. Hero of the Rails is a 2009 CGI feature-length special and film spin-off of the TV series Thomas & Friends.
One summer on the Island of Sodor, Spencer (voiced by UK: Matt Wilkinson/US: Glenn Wrage) arrives to help the Duke (voiced by UK: Matt Wilkinson/US: William Hope) and Duchess (voiced by UK: Teresa Gallagher/US: Jules de Jongh) with the construction of their new summer house. After being an absolute nuisance to all of the other engines by teasing and bossing them around, Thomas (voiced by UK: Ben Small/US: Martin Sherman) accepts Spencer's challenge to a contest of strength, taking heavy cargo around the island. Thomas's brakes fail after climbing a tall hill, and he runs out of control through an overgrown, abandoned line. There, Thomas finds an old abandoned Japanese engine named Hiro (voiced by Togo Igawa). Hiro doesn't want the Fat Controller (voiced by UK: Keith Wickham/US: Kerry Shale) to find out, fearing he will be scrapped, so Thomas promises to keep him his secret and work to make Hiro "Master of the Railway" once again. Later, he's taken to the Sodor Steamworks for repairs, where he finds old parts for Hiro. He takes them with permission from Victor (voiced by UK: Matt Wilkinson/US: David Bedella), the Steamworks engine, only to discover that Hiro's hiding place is dangerously close to the Duke and Duchess's new summer house.
The following day, Thomas tells Percy (voiced by UK: Keith Wickham/US: Martin Sherman) about Hiro, and asks him to do his own job while he helps Hiro. Percy misplaces his own mail trucks and breaks down while doing Thomas's job, so Thomas brings him to the Steamworks. The Fat Controller finds out about this and scolds Thomas by forcing him to do Percy's work. With nobody else to ask for help, Thomas tells the rest of his friends about Hiro. They all work together in bringing Hiro new parts, distracting Spencer, and keeping the operation a secret from the Fat Controller while Thomas and Percy try to find the missing mail trucks. Hiro makes friends with all of the engines, but gradually grows homesick. On the day that the last necessary part for Hiro is to be delivered, Spencer discovers Percy's mail trucks, only to be cornered by Thomas, James (voiced by UK: Keith Wickham/US: Kerry Shale) and Toby (voiced by UK: Ben Small/US: William Hope). The Fat Controller accuses Spencer of stealing the trucks and demands he return them to Percy.
While Thomas and Hiro wait for Percy with the last part, they hear Spencer's whistle and run. Spencer finds them and gives chase, but without the last part, Hiro falls apart and is forced to a stop. Spencer is suddenly distracted by Gordon (voiced by UK: Keith Wickham/US: Kerry Shale) while Thomas moves Hiro to a new hiding place. The Duke and Duchess are furious with Spencer for abandoning his own work, and Thomas asks to assist him, in order to keep his eye on Spencer and to gain the trust of the Fat Controller. Meanwhile, the other engines visit Hiro to keep his spirits up. When Thomas finally decides to tell the Fat Controller about Hiro, Spencer tries to stop him, but he is foiled by a rickety bridge which collapses beneath him.
When Thomas explains Hiro's situation to the Fat Controller, he reassures Thomas that he would never have scrapped the "Master of the Railway", and the following day, Thomas and Percy bring him to the Steamworks. There, Victor and his assistant, Kevin the Crane (voiced by UK: Matt Wilkinson/US: Kerry Shale), work together to restore Hiro. Once he's as good as new, Hiro with Rocky (voiced by UK: Matt Wilkinson/US: Glenn Wrage) rescues Spencer, and they work with Thomas on the summerhouse. Spencer apologizes to the two engines, saying they are "both fine engines and fine friends." Hiro misses his home island, so the Fat Controller arranges for Hiro to return home. There are so many visualisation tools out there today, most with a pre-made set of charts. But trying to wrangle your data to fit (uncomfortably) into the default charts is not the right mindset. Adjust the visual to your data, not the other way around. You don't necessarily have to be a code wizard to let your creativity run free. Even with the defaults, you can become creative by using them in a different way, combining layouts or chart types to create something new, or even changing small pieces of code from existing visualisation frameworks.
During this talk Nadieh will take you through several of her data visualisation projects, both from the business environment of her day job and the experiments made in her evenings. Hopefully, by the end you'll want to step outside of your "visualisation" comfort zone and create (custom) charts that best display the insights in the data.

Decisions will need to be made as to how the scales’ fingering will operate across our melodies and what guitar techniques will need to be used to have our scale lines make their way into new fingerboard positions. Hero of the Rails is a 2009 CGI feature-length special and film spin-off of the TV series Thomas & Friends.
One summer on the Island of Sodor, Spencer (voiced by UK: Matt Wilkinson/US: Glenn Wrage) arrives to help the Duke (voiced by UK: Matt Wilkinson/US: William Hope) and Duchess (voiced by UK: Teresa Gallagher/US: Jules de Jongh) with the construction of their new summer house. There, Thomas finds an old abandoned Japanese engine named Hiro (voiced by Togo Igawa). Hiro doesn't want the Fat Controller (voiced by UK: Keith Wickham/US: Kerry Shale) to find out, fearing he will be scrapped, so Thomas promises to keep him his secret and work to make Hiro "Master of the Railway" once again. Later, he's taken to the Sodor Steamworks for repairs, where he finds old parts for Hiro. He takes them with permission from Victor (voiced by UK: Matt Wilkinson/US: David Bedella), the Steamworks engine, only to discover that Hiro's hiding place is dangerously close to the Duke and Duchess's new summer house.
The following day, Thomas tells Percy (voiced by UK: Keith Wickham/US: Martin Sherman) about Hiro, and asks him to do his own job while he helps Hiro. Percy misplaces his own mail trucks and breaks down while doing Thomas's job, so Thomas brings him to the Steamworks. The Fat Controller finds out about this and scolds Thomas by forcing him to do Percy's work. With nobody else to ask for help, Thomas tells the rest of his friends about Hiro. They all work together in bringing Hiro new parts, distracting Spencer, and keeping the operation a secret from the Fat Controller while Thomas and Percy try to find the missing mail trucks. Hiro makes friends with all of the engines, but gradually grows homesick. On the day that the last necessary part for Hiro is to be delivered, Spencer discovers Percy's mail trucks, only to be cornered by Thomas, James (voiced by UK: Keith Wickham/US: Kerry Shale) and Toby (voiced by UK: Ben Small/US: William Hope). The Fat Controller accuses Spencer of stealing the trucks and demands he return them to Percy.
While Thomas and Hiro wait for Percy with the last part, they hear Spencer's whistle and run. Spencer finds them and gives chase, but without the last part, Hiro falls apart and is forced to a stop. Spencer is suddenly distracted by Gordon (voiced by UK: Keith Wickham/US: Kerry Shale) while Thomas moves Hiro to a new hiding place. The Duke and Duchess are furious with Spencer for abandoning his own work, and Thomas asks to assist him, in order to keep his eye on Spencer and to gain the trust of the Fat Controller. Meanwhile, the other engines visit Hiro to keep his spirits up. When Thomas finally decides to tell the Fat Controller about Hiro, Spencer tries to stop him, but he is foiled by a rickety bridge which collapses beneath him.
When Thomas explains Hiro's situation to the Fat Controller, he reassures Thomas that he would never have scrapped the "Master of the Railway", and the following day, Thomas and Percy bring him to the Steamworks. There, Victor and his assistant, Kevin the Crane (voiced by UK: Matt Wilkinson/US: Kerry Shale), work together to restore Hiro. Hero of the Rails is a 2009 CGI feature-length special and film spin-off of the TV series Thomas & Friends.
One summer on the Island of Sodor, Spencer (voiced by UK: Matt Wilkinson/US: Glenn Wrage) arrives to help the Duke (voiced by UK: Matt Wilkinson/US: William Hope) and Duchess (voiced by UK: Teresa Gallagher/US: Jules de Jongh) with the construction of their new summer house. After being an absolute nuisance to all of the other engines by teasing and bossing them around, Thomas (voiced by UK: Ben Small/US: Martin Sherman) accepts Spencer's challenge to a contest of strength, taking heavy cargo around the island. Thomas's brakes fail after climbing a tall hill, and he runs out of control through an overgrown, abandoned line. There, Thomas finds an old abandoned Japanese engine named Hiro (voiced by Togo Igawa). Hiro doesn't want the Fat Controller (voiced by UK: Keith Wickham/US: Kerry Shale) to find out, fearing he will be scrapped, so Thomas promises to keep him his secret and work to make Hiro "Master of the Railway" once again. Later, he's taken to the Sodor Steamworks for repairs, where he finds old parts for Hiro. He takes them with permission from Victor (voiced by UK: Matt Wilkinson/US: David Bedella), the Steamworks engine, only to discover that Hiro's hiding place is dangerously close to the Duke and Duchess's new summer house.
The following day, Thomas tells Percy (voiced by UK: Keith Wickham/US: Martin Sherman) about Hiro, and asks him to do his own job while he helps Hiro. Percy misplaces his own mail trucks and breaks down while doing Thomas's job, so Thomas brings him to the Steamworks. The Fat Controller finds out about this and scolds Thomas by forcing him to do Percy's work. With nobody else to ask for help, Thomas tells the rest of his friends about Hiro. They all work together in bringing Hiro new parts, distracting Spencer, and keeping the operation a secret from the Fat Controller while Thomas and Percy try to find the missing mail trucks. Hiro makes friends with all of the engines, but gradually grows homesick. On the day that the last necessary part for Hiro is to be delivered, Spencer discovers Percy's mail trucks, only to be cornered by Thomas, James (voiced by UK: Keith Wickham/US: Kerry Shale) and Toby (voiced by UK: Ben Small/US: William Hope). The Fat Controller accuses Spencer of stealing the trucks and demands he return them to Percy.

There are so many visualisation tools out there today, most with a pre-made set of charts. But trying to wrangle your data to fit (uncomfortably) into the default charts is not the right mindset. Adjust the visual to your data, not the other way around. You don't necessarily have to be a code wizard to let your creativity run free. Even with the defaults, you can become creative by using them in a different way, combining layouts or chart types to create something new, or even changing small pieces of code from existing visualisation frameworks.
During this talk Nadieh will take you through several of her data visualisation projects, both from the business environment of her day job and the experiments made in her evenings. Hopefully, by the end you'll want to step outside of your "visualisation" comfort zone and create (custom) charts that best display the insights in the data.

When we take short melodic phrases and then combine them to establish our guitar solos, it is important to think of how the solo will work its way along and across the neck.
