Paul Wernick is an Canadian television and film producer and screenwriter.
Paul Wernick wrote and executive-produced Marvel's Deadpool with writing and producing partner Rhett Reese. Deadpool stars Ryan Reynolds and is directed by Tim Miller, for Twentieth Century Fox. The R-Rated film was released on February 12, 2016.
Wernick and Reese's first feature collaboration was the 2009 hit movie Zombieland, which they created and also executive-produced. The movie was released by Sony Pictures in theaters October 2, 2009. Zombieland went on to become one of the highest grossing zombie movies of all time.
Wernick and Reese followed Zombieland with Paramount Pictures’ G.I. Joe: Retaliation, starring Dwayne Johnson, Channing Tatum, and Bruce Willis, and which was released on March 27, 2013. The sequel outperformed the original, grossing nearly $400 million.
Their newest feature project, "LIFE" is an original science fiction film to be produced by Skydance and directed by Daniel Espinosa.
Rhett Reese is an American film producer, television producer and screenwriter. As a screenwriter, his credits include Clifford's Really Big Movie, Cruel Intentions 3 and Dinosaur. He has collaborated with Paul Wernick, writing the films Zombieland, G.I. Joe: Retaliation, Micronauts and Deadpool. Together they also created the reality series The Joe Schmo Show.
Deadpool (real name Wade Winston Wilson) is a fictional antihero appearing in American comic books published by Marvel Comics. Created by artist/writer Rob Liefeld and writer Fabian Nicieza, the character first appeared in The New Mutants #98 cover-dated (Feb. 1991). Initially Deadpool was depicted as a supervillain when he made his first appearance in The New Mutants and later in issues of X-Force, but has since evolved into the role of an antihero. Deadpool is a disfigured and mentally unstable mercenary with the superhuman ability of an accelerated healing factor and physical prowess. He is known as the "Merc with a Mouth" because of his talkative nature and tendency to break the fourth wall, which is used by writers to create humorous effect.
The character's popularity has seen him feature in numerous other media. In the 2004 series Cable & Deadpool, he refers to his own scarred appearance as "Ryan Reynolds crossed with a Shar-Pei"; Reynolds would eventually portray the character in the 2009 film X-Men Origins: Wolverine and reprise the role in the 2016 film Deadpool — the latter incarnation bearing far more similarities to the comic book version.
Deadpool is a 2016 American superhero film based on the Marvel Comics character of the same name. It is the eighth installment in the X-Men film series. The film is directed by Tim Miller, with a screenplay by Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick, and stars Ryan Reynolds, Morena Baccarin, Ed Skrein, T. J. Miller, Gina Carano, Brianna Hildebrand, Stefan Kapičić, and Leslie Uggams. The film follows Wade Wilson who, after being subjected to an experiment that leaves him with new abilities, hunts down the man who nearly destroyed his life.
In February 2004, development for the film began with New Line Cinema. However, in March 2005, New Line Cinema put the film in turnaround and 20th Century Fox became interested. In May 2009, 20th Century Fox lent the film to writers, and in April 2011, Miller was hired to direct. Principal photography commenced in Vancouver, Canada, in March 2015 and ended in May.
Deadpool premiered in Paris on February 8, 2016, and was released on February 12, 2016 in North America in IMAX, DLP, D-Box and premium large formats. The film had the highest-grossing opening weekend for an R-rated film in North America, and broke numerous other box office records, while receiving generally positive reviews, with critics praising Reynolds' performance, the humor, and the action sequences, but criticizing the plot as formulaic. A sequel has been greenlit.
Reese is a name deriving from the Welsh name Rhys.

Just days after Deadpool opened in theaters, it was clear 20th Century Fox would be announcing a sequel very soon. Indeed, we heard a few days previously that the studio had already enlisted Deadpool writers Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick to start work on scripting Deadpool 2, but given the massive box office we don’t just have a successful superhero movie on our hands, we have a game-changer. The team behind Deadpool was so bullish on continuing the story in a future film that the movie’s post-credits tease reveals that Deadpool 2 will bring comics character Cable into the fold, and indeed the fan-casting for the character has already begun. While Fox will likely officially set things in motion for the Deadpool sequel soon, when Steve spoke with Reese and Wernick a couple of days before De...
